ASSURANCE OF SALVATION

Can Christians know they are saved (cf. 1 John 5:13)? 1 John has three tests or evidences.
Doctrinal (belief, 1 John 1:1,5,10; 2:18-25; 4:1-6,14-16; 5:11-12)
Lifestyle (obedience, 1 John 2:2-3; 2:3-6; 3:1-10; 5:18)
Social (love, 1 John 1:2-3; 2:7-11; 3:11-18; 4:7-12, 16-21)

Assurance is difficult because
often believers seek certain experiences not promised in the Bible
often believers do not fully understand the gospel
often believers continue to willfully sin (cf. 1 Cor. 3:10-15; 9:27; 1 Tim. 1:19-20; 2 Tim. 4:10; 2 Pet. 1:8-11)

certain personality types (i.e., perfectionists) can never accept God's unconditional acceptance and love

In the Bible there are examples of false professions (cf. Matt. 13:3-23; 7:21-23; Mark 4:14-20; 2 Pet. 2:19-20; 1 John 2:18-19, see SPECIAL TOPIC: Apostasy)
Believers' primary assurance is linked to the character of the Triune God
God the Father's love (see SPECIAL TOPIC: Characteristics of Israel's God [OT])
John 3:16; 10:28-29
Romans 8:31-39
Ephesians 2:5,8-9
Philippians 1:6
1 Peter 1:3-5
1 John 4:7-21
God the Son's actions
death on our behalf (i.e., Isaiah 53)

 (1) Mark 10:45
 (2) Acts 2:23
 (3) Romans 5:6-11
 (4) 2 Corinthians 5:21
 (5) Heb. 9:28
 (6) John 2:2; 4:9-10
high priestly prayer (John 17:12)
continuing intercession

 (1) Romans 8:34
 (2) Hebrews 7:25; 9:24
 (3) 1 John 2:1
God the Spirit's ministry
calling (John 6:44,65)
advocate ‒ John 14:16; 16:7
teacher ‒ John 14:26; 16:13; 1 John 2:27
intercessing, Rom. 8:26-27
sealing
 (1) 2 Corinthians 1:22; 5:5
 (2) Ephesians 1:13-14; 4:3
assuring internal witness
 (1) Jphn 15:26
 (2) Romans 8:16-17
 (3) 1 John 5:7-13

But humans must respond to God's covenant offer (both initially and continually)
believers must turn from sin (repentance, cf. Mark 1:4; SPECIAL TOPIC: Repentance [NT]) and to God through Jesus (faith)
Mark 1:15
Acts 3:16,19; 20:21; 26:20
believers must receive God's offer in Christ (see SPECIAL TOPIC: What Does It Mean to "receive," "believe," "confess/profess," "call upon"?)
John 1:12; 3:16
Romans 5:1 (and by analogy 10:9-13)
Ephesians 2:5,8-9
believers must continue in the faith (see SPECIAL TOPIC: Perseverance)
statements of Jesus (Matt. 10:22; 13:1-9,24-30; 24:13; Mark 13:13; John 8:31; 15:4-10; Rev. 2:7,17,26; 3:5,12,21)
statements of Paul (Rom. 11:22; 1 Cor. 15:2; 2 Cor. 13:5; Gal. 1:6; 3:4; 5:4; 6:9; Phil. 2:12; 3:18-20; Col. 1:23; 2 Tim. 3:2)
statements of the author of Hebrews (Heb. 2:1; 3:6,14; 4:14; 6:4-12; 10:26-27
statements of John (1 John 2:6; 2 John 9)
statement of the Father (Rev. 21:7)
remembering that the goal of salvation is Christlikeness
Romans 8:28-29
2 Corinthians 3:18
Galatians 4:19
Ephesians 1:4; 2:10; 4:13
1 Thessalonians
2 Thessalonians 3:13; 4:3; 5:23
Titus 2:14
1 Peter 1:15

Assurance has become a denominational issue
John Calvin
based assurance on God's election. He said that we can never be certain in this life.

John Wesley based assurance on religious experience. He believed that believers have the ability to live above known sin (cf. Romans 6).

Roman Catholics and the Church of Christ base assurance on an authoritative Church. The group to which one belongs is the key to assurance.

Most evangelicals base assurance on the promises of the Bible, linked to the fruit of the Spirit (cf. Gal. 5:22-23) in the life of the believer (i.e., daily Christlikeness).

BORN AGAIN

This root (gennaō) is used in Jesus' discussion with Nicodemus in John 3:3,7,8, also in 1 John 2:29; 3:9; 4:7; 5:1,4,18, and in 1 Pet. 1:23 (i.e., anagennaō). It speaks of a decisive act of a new life, a new orientation, a new worldview, a new relationship with God through faith in Christ.

The NT also uses other imagery to describe our salvation:

"quickened" (cf. Col. 2:13; Eph. 2:4-5)
"new creation" (cf. 2 Cor. 5:17; Gal. 6:15)
"partaker of Divine Nature," (cf. 2 Pet. 1:4)
Paul is fond of the familial imagery "adoption" (cf. Rom. 8:23; Gal. 4:5; Eph. 1:5)
John and Peter are fond of the familial imagery "new birth." This imagery of being "born again" or "born from above" is a biblical emphasis on the need for a totally new start (cf. Ezek. 36:26-27), a totally new family (cf. John 1:12-13; Rom. 5:12-21). Christianity is not a reformation or a new morality; it is a new relationship with God. This new relationship is made possible because of

the Father's mercy and grace (cf. Exod. 34:6; Neh. 9:17)
the Son's sacrificial death (cf. 2 Cor. 5:21) and resurrection from the dead (cf. 1 Corinthians 15)
the work of the Spirit (cf. John 3:6; 6:44,65; 1 Pet. 1:2)
This divine will and action gives believers a new life, a living hope, and a sure inheritance.

SPECIAL TOPIC: CHRISTIAN ASSURANCE

I have included my exegetical note from John 3:16 "born again."

John 3:3
NASB, NKJV, TEV, REB, Peshitta  "born again"
NRSV, NJB  "born from above"
This is AORIST PASSIVE SUBJUNCTIVE. The word (anōthen) can mean

"physically born a second time"
"born from the beginning" (cf. Acts 26:4)
"born from above," which fits this context (cf. John 3:7,31; 19:11)
This is probably another example of John's use of terms that have two meanings (double entendre), both of which are true (cf. Bauer, Arndt, Gengrich and Danker's A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament, p. 77). As is obvious from John 3:4, Nicodemus understood it as option # 1. John and Peter (cf. 1 Pet. 1:23) use this familial imagery for salvation as Paul uses the term "adoption." The focus is on the Father's acts in begetting (cf. John 1:13). Salvation is a gift and act of God (cf. John 1:12-13; Rom. 3:21-24; 6:23; Eph. 2:8-9; 1 John 4:9-10).

The footnote to George Lamsa's translation of the Peshitta says, "'Born again' in northern Aramaic, means to change one's thoughts and habits. Nicodemus spoke southern Aramaic and hence, did not understand Jesus."

@Johann .

We are Born Of The Spirit, that is by the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit, just as His word says.

◄ John 3:6 ►
Audio Crossref Comment Greek
Verse (Click for Chapter)
New International Version
Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.

New Living Translation
Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.

One could never understand what this means imo, unless one has been Born Again by the Spirit Of God.only God can testify with our spirit that we are Born Again/ a child of God.

Which can only come by divine revelation, just as his word says...we are Born Of The Spirit, we aren’t Born Of The Bible.

Spirit gives birth to spirit..= ...Spiritual rebirth ...our spirit is Born into the Kingdom Of God.only by the testifying with my spirit that I am his child, could I know I was Born Again.....we are in his Kingdom as soon as Spirit gives birth to spirit.

Flesh can only give birth to flesh.= human birth.

We are partakers Of the divine nature, only when our spirit is Born from above, man has no say in that supernatural act, which is carried out by the Holy Spirit..chosen and predestined to become Born Again.

Matthew 24:11-13
And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

John 3:36
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.

Romans 8:16
The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

Romans 8
King James Version
8 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.

13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,

21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?

25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

We are Born Of The Spirit, that is by the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit, just as His word says.
Quoting verses without context, or reams of chapters doesn't tell me anything-

Regeneration - Many unregenerate men consider themselves to be God’s children, or “sons of God.” But being a product of God’s handiwork does not qualify one for a sonship relationship.
A cabinetmaker constructs a cabinet. But this does not make the cabinet a “child” of the cabinetmaker. A birth process would be necessary for this. The unregenerate man who claims sonship with God “because he made me” is basing his claim merely on the fact that he is a product of God’s handiwork. Like the cabinet, he lacks the new birth necessary for a sonship relationship.

Regeneration - We may sweep the world clean of militarism, we may scrub the world white of autocracy, we may carpet it with democracy and drape it with the flag of republicanism. We may hang on the walls the thrilling pictures of freedom: here, the signing of America’s Independence; there, the thrilling portrait of Joan of Arc; yonder, the Magna Carta; and on this side, the inspiring picture of Garibaldi. We may spend energy and effort to make the world a paradise itself where the lion of capitalism can lie down with the proletarian lamb. But if we turn into that splendid room mankind with the same old heart, deceitful and desperately wicked, we may expect to clean house again not many days hence. What we need is a peace conference with the Prince of Peace. - Arthur Brisbane

Mike Tyson - Heavy-weight boxing champion Mike Tyson said yesterday he does "not really" want to get back together with his estranged wife, Robin Givens. "Both of us, you know, we made big mistakes and I said things that I really shouldn't have said. I meant them, but I shouldn't have made them publicized," Tyson told interviewer David Frost. Asked if he wants a reconciliation with Givens, whom he has sued for divorce, Tyson said "Well, not really." He also told Frost, "I'm kind of frustrated at this particular time, but as far as being happy, I'm content with what's going on." His most prized possessions are "two dogs that I like." These are strange remarks in light of Tyson's recent publicized conversion to Christ. I thought people were supposed to change when they came to the Savior

The Means of Regeneration
1. REGENERATION IS A DIVINE WORK.

We are “born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God” (John 1:13). It was of His own will he begat us (Jas. 1:18): Our regeneration is a creative act on the part of God, not a reforming process on the part of man. It is not brought about by natural descent, for all we get from that is “flesh.” It is not by natural choice, for the human will is impotent. Nor is it by self—effort, or any human generative principle. Nor is it by the blood of any ceremonial sacrifices. It is not by pedigree or natural generation. It is altogether and absolutely the work of God. Practically speaking, we have no more to do with our second birth, than we had to do with our first birth.

The Holy Spirit is the Divine Agent in our regeneration. For this reason it is called the “renewing of the Holy Ghost” (Tit. 3:5). We are “born of the Spirit” (John 3:5).

2. AND YET THERE IS A HUMAN SIDE TO THE WORK.

John 1:12 and 13 bring together these two thoughts—the divine and the human in regeneration: Those who received Him (i. e., Christ) … were born of God. The two great problems connected with regeneration are the efficiency of God and the activity of man.

(a) MAN IS REGENERATED BY MEANS OF THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE MESSAGE OF THE GOSPEL.

God begat us by “the word of truth” (James 1:18).
We are “born again,” says Peter (1 Peter 1:23), “of incorruptible seed, by the word of God.” We are “begotten through the gospel” (1 Cor. 4:15).

These scriptures teach us that regeneration takes place in the heart of man when he reads or hears the Word of God, or the Gospel message, or both, and, because of the Spirit working in the Word as well as in the heart of man, the man opens his heart and receives that message as the Word of life to his soul. The truth is illuminated, as is also the mind, by the Spirit; the man yields to the truth, and is born again. Of course, even here, we must remember that it is the Lord who must open our hearts just as He opened the heart of Lydia (Acts 16:14). But the Word must be believed and received by man. 1 Pet. 1:25.

(b) MAN IS REGENERATED BY THE PERSONAL ACCEPTANCE OF JESUS CHRIST.

This is the clear teaching of John 1:12, 13 and Gal. 3:26. We become “children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.” When a man, believing in the claims of Jesus Christ receives Him to be all that He claimed to be—that man is born again.

“Man therefore is not wholly passive at the time of his regeneration. He is passive only as to the change of his ruling disposition. With regard to the exercise of this disposition he is active. A dead man cannot assist in his own resurrection, it is true; but he may, and can, like Lazarus, obey Christ’s command, and ‘Come forth!’ ”
Psa. 90:16, 17 illustrates both the divine and human part: “Let thy work appear unto thy servants,” and then “the work of our hands establish thou it.” God’s work appears first, then man’s. So Phil. 2:12, 13.

You have a blessed day.

I’m not here to tell you anything, only the Spirit of God can do that.

I became Born Again exactly as the word of God says, the Bible backs up the receiving of divine revelation.

My reassurance came the night I became Born Again..by divine revelation/ by the Spirit testifying with my spirit that I am Gods child/ Born Again, the Holy Spirit Witnesses that truth to my spirit all day every day for the last 33 years..

I stand on my last post 100% ..I’m not here to argue with you, nor am I here to mount the merry go round.

I am here the same as you...to post what I believe the word of God to be witnessing to my spirit.

If you don’t like what you hear, then I suggest you scroll past my posts, your opinion or what you post is no more valid than anyone else’s..same applies to me.

By the way your post makes absolutely no sense to me...no problem..we all understand differently and I will always stand firm in what I believe...
I wish you well, in finding the truth.

Ephesians 3
King James Version
3 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,

2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:

3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,

4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)

5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;

6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:

7 Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.

8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,

11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:

12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.

13 Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.

14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,

16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;

17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;

19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen

For me , only the Spirit can give / has given me reassurance that I am Born Again and saved from eternal damnation, by divine revelation, The Spirit testifies with our spirit that we are Gods children.

The Bible backs up what I received by divine revelation.

I know that I am Born Again and free from eternal damnation in my spirit, which came by divine revelation, when I was Born Of The Spirit.Born Again/ Regenerated/ Born Of imperishable seed/ Born Of God’s seed, all have the same meaning.

My opinion/ testimony and belief.

It didnt take long to get to the answer in this thread! I was thinking the same thing you posted while I was reading the first post.

Assurance of salvation is given through the Holy Spirit.

It seems like many people (Denominations?) base it on different things like doctrine. That is not right because the bible's doctrine brings us to the Holy Spirit which we engage and walk with and the develop a relationship with the Lord thru His Spirit.

Who was it that said, I have been saved, I am being saved and I will be saved? That is a fair doctrinal (carnal?) way to speak of it, but when one is walking in the Spirit, you can feel it (perceive it?) So I think that that if you can not feel this assurance within you then you've slipped back into the flesh and are needing to get connected with the Holy Spirit again...

1 John 5:11 - And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

THE WILL (thelēma) OF GOD

The "will" of God involves several categories.

JOHN'S GOSPEL

• answered prayer related to doing God's will (cf. John 9:31 and 1 John 5:14)

THE SYNOPTIC GOSPELS

• doing God's will is crucial (cf. Matt. 7:21)

• doing God's will makes one brother and sister with Jesus (cf. Matt. 12:50; Mark 3:35)

• it is not God's will for any to perish (cf. Matt. 18:14; 1 Tim. 2:4; 2 Pet. 3:9)

• Calvary was the Father's will for Jesus (cf. Matt. 26:42; Luke 22:42)

PAUL'S LETTERS

• the maturity and service of all believers (cf. Rom. 12:1-2)

• believers delivered from this evil age (cf. Gal. 1:4)

• God's will was His redemptive plan (cf. Eph. 1:5,9,11)

• believers experiencing and living the Spirit-filled life (cf. Eph. 5:17-18)

• believers filled with the knowledge of God (cf. Col. 1:9)

• believers made perfect and complete (cf. Col. 4:12)

• believers sanctified (cf. 1 Thess. 4:3)

• believers giving thanks in all things (cf. 1 Thess. 5:18)

PETER'S LETTERS

• believers doing right (i.e., submitting to civil authorities) and, thereby silencing foolish men, thus providing an opportunity for evangelism (cf. 1 Pet. 2:15)

• believers suffering (cf. 1 Pet. 3:17; 4:19)

• believers not living self-centered lives (cf. 1 Pet. 4:2)

JOHN'S LETTERS

• believers abiding forever (cf. 1 John 2:17)

Mat 12:34 Offspring of vipers! How are you able to say good things when you [*Here “when ” is supplied as a component of the participle (“are”) which is understood as temporal] are evil? For from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
Mat 12:35 The good person from his [Literally “the”; the Greek article is used here as a possessive pronoun] good treasury brings out good things , and the evil person from his [Literally “the”; the Greek article is used here as a possessive pronoun] evil treasury brings out evil things .
Mat 12:36 But I tell you that every worthless word that they speak, people will give an account for it on the day of judgment!
Mat 12:37 For by your words you will be vindicated, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Question-Who were Jesus referring to?

Philippians 2
King James Version
2 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,

2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

17 Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.

18 For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me.

19 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.

20 For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.

21 For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ's.

22 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.

23 Him therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me.

24 But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly.

25 Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants.

26 For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick.

27 For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.

28 I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.

29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation:

30 Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.

So now we go by feelings that we feel
instead of what the bible teaches?

One of the first things I learned when becoming a Christian is that we go by the promises of God...
NOW HOW WE FEEL about something or other.

Some born again persons experience a lot of feelings...
some none.

So is the one that experiences none rejected and could we dare to say they are not born again?

I thought the parameter was a transformed life.

Romans 12:1- 2
1Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
2And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
