I'm trying to point out that things aren't always as simple as we make them out to be. Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins. Wonderful. But how did dying on the cross save us from our sins?

Someone might answer, "Because God demanded a sacrifice." Okay, then why did a sacrifice satisfy God?

My birthday is Monday. I'd be more likely to have a burger and fries, except I'm struggling to keep my weight down.
I wouldn't say that God demanded a sacrifice. Jesus willingly gave his life as a sacrifice. The purpose of the sacrifice was to demonstrate God's righteousness.

Jesus lived a life without sin and was murdered by the political and religious authorities of his day. Capital punishment against a sinless man, highly esteemed by God, was the greatest example of evil possible. God demonstrated his righteousness in that he raised Jesus from the dead, placing him at the head of all authorities and the church, and he judged those who killed him.

This pleased God and appealed his wrath against mankind. God was reconciling the world to himself through the cross. In light of this situation, God has decided to save those who are willing to admit that they should have been on the cross instead of Jesus. God is saving all those who are willing to admit their guilt and accept Jesus as both Lord and Savior.

More could be said, but let me keep this short.

Happy Birthday.

Thanks.

It seems to me that when Satan had mankind murder a sinless man, he lost his credibility and ability to torment us.

When Jesus was lead through the desert and tempted by Satan he used God's word as defense. The apostle Paul wrote in Ephisians 6 to put on the whole armor of God.
How do we occupy our minds while we wait for the Lord to win the battle?

It was not the dying on the crossed that saved us it is his resurrection that saves us.If he just died then he accomplished nothing. He had to die to make the sacrifice to save humanity which weighed heavily on his soul .Because the sacrifice was acceptable God raised his soul from the dead and all his glory was given back to him.He raised his soul to heaven the first soul to ever enter heaven. We find our salvation in his resurrection as he has the power to resurrect us with him and he offers it freely to you. You either understand this or you don't.You have to understand what the victory is.
If Satan had stopped Christ from making the sacrifice everything would of failed and there would be no salvation.Satan thought Jesus would die just like everyone else and his soul would go to the dead.Imagine his surprise as Jesus raised his soul to heaven everything Satan and the fallen Angels had been trying to accomplish was destroyed. It would of been better for Satan had he protected Christ from death he obviously had no idea of what God was accomplishing in Christ with his death and resurrection. You can bet Satan was there the moment Jesus gave up his soul to gloat his victory and take Christ to hell but it was Christ's victory not Satan's.Amen

Jesus did descend to hell to retrieve the souls that did not belong there starting with Adam and Eve who were waiting for him.I imagine there were hundred of millions if not billions of souls crying out to him when he descended but he did not descend to save them all.I can imagine the tears of Joy of those who were saved and the absolute hopelessness of those who were not..
It was the first thing Jesus did after he had been resurrected it why he came - it was for them to who had been waiting for the Savior that were saved.

I cannot find an exact bible line its like doctrine its in the Creeds so no the bible does not say it but its believed by Christians and is proclaimed in the creeds.

The closes would be:
The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many. (Matt. 27:52–53)

So it shows the souls of the Saints were raise and seen by the people. That's the best I can do.

These other bible lines do refer that much more was going on then Jesus just dying on the cross. The separation of the veil would be the divide between the clean and the unclean so all souls whom are saved would of been retrieved by Christ and the unclean were not.

In Matthew 27:50-53 we read that Jesus cried out and gave up His spirit. Then the curtain of the sanctuary fell down and the earth shook. Rocks were split and the tombs of the saints opened up.

Mark 15:38 says “Then the curtain of the Temple was torn in two from top to bottom.”

Luke 23:44-45 states “It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three, because the sun’s light failed. The curtain of the sanctuary was split down the middle.”

Matthew’s account is the most vivid of the three. In his description, he shares with readers about the earthquake and darkness that was prophesied by Daniel, Elijah, and Zechariah. Even more importantly, Matthew shares that the veil was torn.

The tearing of the veil is mentioned in all three accounts and speaks to the importance of this event. The veil was the separation of the clean and the unclean. It hung in the Temple over the entrance to the Holy of Holies. This place was so holy that no one could enter except the high priest.

In Exodus 26 we learn that on the Day of Atonement, Aaron could enter and place the blood on the atonement seat. The Israelites could not come into the presence of the Lord just anytime. This speaks volumes about the tearing of this veil.

Did Jesus descend to hell? Its a matter of faith.

It would be very difficult for a bible only person to believe its the belief of the Church. The Church is the people not a building.

An obvious conclusion drawn from the passages in Peter 1 also by bible scholars is that Christ descended to Hades precisely to proclaim his message of salvation there as he had done in the world above. At first the idea was simply expressed with no specifics about whom Christ addressed or what effect he had

Got myself in trouble here I have no bible line that is direct proof so its your choice I am either speaking nonsense or not.

38 ''And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.''

someone took the body down ,the Bible does not say who took it down which really does not matter . getting a body down ,say from a cross, to leave the cross standing there ,as it is often pictured , is as unlikely as it gets . perhaps we all have seen the Hollywood version of how it was done. men using ladders first to then use rope or material to pull up the body for support so that other men could then climb and reach out to remove the nails .{which BTW is one of the dumb'est tricks any one would never do again should the opportunity come again }. then the men holding the body up would then let it down . all apparently done to leave the cross standing there for all to marvel ,even to turn it into a emblem of devotion .
fact of the matter is to get the body down it would of been the reverse of standing it all up. it would just be a matter of lifting it up an out of the hole to then lay it down ,to then remove the nails .no ladders would be needed .
it also means here was no standing cross left standing as is all to often pictured . sorry but it just did not happen . we do know thousands of people were killed by being hung up . it would be a slow and torturous way to die . the wood would of been used over and over again for the same purpose.
was there a cross bar used in the execution of those three men ? you may like to think so , the Romans were known to use such a structure yet I find it unlikely in the hanging up of those three men. reason being they had the be dead and buried that same day . if it looked as tho death was not going to happen in the allotted amount of time the legs would be broken . death comes quickly after the legs are broken .
when a person in hung on a cross the intent was to continue the torture for days if possible . the legs would not be broken . i'd say the Romans had torture down to a science . they knew how long a person could likely live . it was then even surprising to them when Jesus was found dead .

perhaps I should describe the actions needed to lift the pole from the hole it was set into. lifting the pole baring the man up to a point it could be laid down to a novice seams to be a easy task . its far from it . gravity is not your friend . the weight of the man is on one side ,that is the direction the pole is going to fall. unless there is a way to control ,even to spin the pole so that it would /could be set where its wanted to set .
ok ,yes I know I am speaking to complete novices .yet there is one thing done to the pole that gives the lifters and those that would lay it down an advantage . that one thing is a crossbar serving as a handle ,up about 4 feet from the bottom of the pole . not only does the crossbar/handle serve in the controlling in standing its imperative in lifting from the hole it sets in . perhaps you would like to call it a cross ,tho it hardly fits the description and use portrayed by the church .
the Romans had a great deal of experience executing men in this manner ,they would of known the easiest way to stand a pole with a man attached to it . lifting a pole with a man attached up nearer its top with out the crossbar 4 feet up from the bottom is almost impossible . first thing that happens when lifted the weight of the man twists the pole so that the man that was looking up at the sky would men be looking at dirt . the men pushing to erect would then have their hands on the man not on the pole .
