Hello, I'm born of the Spirit, I asked God to give me the Holy Spirit over 12 years ago.

Only in these past 12 months have I considered whether there is a distinction between the Holy Spirit and the Holy Ghost.

I do believe I have a ghost personally as well as a (sanctified) spirit, and I believe my ghost felt really good in my early stages of being born again (of the Spirit).

Now, I feel God is wanting me to ask for the Holy Ghost as well. Does this make sense and what do you think of it?

Everyone understands God differently, I became Born Of The Spirit over 33 years ago...there is only one birth in the Spirit....when the Spirit testifies with our spirit that we are children of God....in other words as he was indwelling my spirit he testified/ spoke to my spirit.

God gave me to Jesus ....I am being conformed into his image, plus bearing the fruit of the Spirit.....as I grow and mature in Christ...he indwells my spirit, as it was birthed over 33 years ago....Praise God always!

Whoever the Father gives to the Son, none can pluck us out of his hands.
All Glory goes to God and to no other.

I never knew that I had a spirit, not until it became Born Again..brought Alive by Gods Living testimony, the Living Spirit.

@Ritajanice said, "everyone understands God differently", and perhaps that is so.. but ultimately there is only One God. Different understandings occur because people are individuals and their experiences are different. God understands everyone of us perfectly. How much or how well does each of us understand of Him? God knows the heart of each of us but how clearly do we know our own hearts... much less the hearts of others?

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts. Prov 21:2
Who is it that leads us? Is it the Holy Spirit or the Holy Ghost?

Did God call you or did you feel the need to go to the alter and accept Christ? I did not see Jesus in your whole post. You cannot decide to become a Christian, it is God who saves you, you can't save yourself. Maybe what you are "feeling" is the need to pray to Jesus for His salvation and saving Grace and forgiveness of sins.

Ephesians 4:4-6 - There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

The only difference is the translation. Both Holy Spirit and Holy Ghost are translated from the Greek "pneumatos hagiou".

Much love!
Do you know or have any idea why it's been translated into two different words in English?

In Dutch, the first language I learned, it's been translated into "Geest" the Dutch word for ghost.

Holy Ghost represents an earlier use of English, Holy Spirit is the more modern use. Nowadays "ghost" is thought of as an human apparition of someone who has died, while "spirit" is more of the immaterial part of a man, living or dead, also then of God's Spirit.

That's as I understand it.

Much love!

This is how it went:

I watched dozens of videos on YouTube and in one of them a person quoted Bible verses from 1st Corinthians that rang true to me.

I was elated because I believed in God's existence right away and then was overwhelmed with fear.

I then began to seek the truth about the Bible and Jesus Christ and two weeks later I had asked for the Holy Spirit.

It wasn't at an altar, it was at home.

If hearing and reading those Bible verses were the way that God called me to repentance then yes, it was Him calling.

Thanks, I saw the name of Jesus in this post. That makes me feel better. Still, Ephesians 4:4-6 states there is only one Holy Spirit.

Hello,

When communicating with other people we need to understand how our Metadata meshes with their Metadata so that there is no confusion conveyed between the people we are talking with and ourselves.

Good communication is judged by how closely my intended words are understood by the hearer of what I say such that they come to the same understanding as myself.

So often people on forums focus on the differences in how something is said rather than on the closeness of what each understands the other is conveying.

Hello,

There are things we perceive being said along with the words used, because of how each of us think about our communications. We need to make sure we are on the same page with these unspoken perceptions and such to make sure our inner interpretations match the other persons. Is that what you are saying?

We know when we've achieved good communication by the common understanding each of us hold. It's not good communication if the hearer things I'm saying something I'm not. Is that the idea?

Too much attention can be spent on the style and form of communication, rather then whether or not our communication is effective, not by the form it takes, but the successful transmission of ideas.

Am I understanding you correctly?

(to the reader, this is Reflective Listening)

Much love!

Marks, I will not grade your understanding of what you have presented in your response. For a start our Metadata often are not meshed well at all.

One such difference on this forum in our Metadata is the biased theological understanding framework that we all adhere to, which often has contaminations from the wrong source/understanding.

The above understanding that I presented came out of the mapping sciences 25-40 years ago where different approaches as to how our data could be overlaid over someone else's reference database and convey the same understanding using the relationship that our data had with the reference data framework so that they could come to the same understanding as we had on our computer system even when the reference databases were spatially different.

The main problem was the dynamic fluidity of the reference database that was held by the people wanting to overlay everyone's data on their system.

To solve this back then, the community had to agree on many aspects of how to convey the mapping information with each other, otherwise it became meaningless exercise.

The idea behind Reflective Listening is that before responding, the listener repeats back in their own words what they understand the speaker to be saying.

The speaker then has the opportunity to say yes, you do understand, or no, and then restate the misunderstood portions. The listener then repeats back what they understand in their own words. This process repeats until the speaker and listener have reached the point where they are both confident that the speaker has been correctly understood.

Then, from this place of confirmed understanding, the listen goes on to give their response, at which time the speaker becomes the listener, and repeats back to the now speaker, and so on.

In this way we can be sure we've understood before responding, and thus avoiding much confusion.

Much love!

@marks

So often our discussion goes off the tracks, because we do not have the same reference database upon which to drape our conversation over. The discussion often diverges from the initial message into the theological differences between the two parties.

What you are presenting above is just one small aspect of the overall information interaction process.

Good communication often falls over because one, or even both parties, are not prepared to learn anything during the communication process from the feedback controls that operate during the conversation.

PS: - Feedback controls do not work very well in this type of communication, which is of the written form as two or more feedback loops are missing.

Personally I've found this to be very effective. I only offer it as a tool, I don't mind if you aren't interested.

Much love!

Problems happen because some members express words that are not true about other members.

Yes, asking questions is required to help the clarification process in a conversation, they can also be used to blow up the conversation.

When we use tools, they should be the right tool for the occasion in which they are used. In written communication, the asking of appropriate question is the only feedback loop that we can use in this written form of conversing with each other on a forum.

As @marks explained....there is only one Holy Spirit. The use of "Ghost" is an earlier word used in some translations.

Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to indwell believers and to help us.

Once you believe on Jesus as your personal Savior for forgiveness of your sins, you are indwelt by the Holy Spirit.

Remember feelings can come and go....base your faith in Christ on what the Bible says you are in Christ. If your feelings fluctuate, you will still remain constant in your faith.

Yes, both "Holy Spirit" and "Holy Ghost" are "Heilige Geest" in Dutch.

As far as English is concerned, "Holy Spirit" seems the better translation, because "ghost" in English today means something like a spectre or phantom. Older English translations of the bible tend to use "Holy Ghost," and more contemporary ones use "Holy Spirit."

You say you began to think about the bible and Jesus Christ, but you don't say whether you believed on the Lord Jesus Christ. That is essential. When the jailer at Philippi asked how he could be saved, the apostles replied:

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved."” (Ac 16:31 NKJV)

According to the bible, if you are a Christian, you have the Holy Spirit:

“But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.” (Ro 8:9 NKJV)
