I have no dispute that the apostles were given understanding of his death and resurrection in this passage. That doesnt change the fact that before this they didnt understand anything of it so how could they preach salvation by his death and resurrection
Luk 24:36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

Luk 24:37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.

Luk 24:38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?

Luk 24:39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

Luk 24:40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.

Luk 24:41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?

Luk 24:42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.

Luk 24:43 And he took it, and did eat before them.

Luk 24:44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

Luk 24:45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

Luk 24:46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

Luk 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Luk 24:48 And ye are witnesses of these things.

Luk 24:49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

Did jesus preach salvation by his death? and resurrection?

Yes, Jesus did preach that His death and resurrection were essential for salvation, but not in the same simplified way many preach it today. He revealed this truth progressively, and always in connection with repentance, obedience, and the coming kingdom of God—not just as a one-time belief without change of life.

At the beginning of His ministry, Jesus focused on preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:14–15). He did not immediately reveal that He would die and rise again, because the disciples were not ready to understand these things, as He said, “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now” (John 16:12). His early preaching centered on repentance, faith, obedience, and entering the kingdom of God.

When the time drew near for His sacrifice, Jesus began to openly teach that He must suffer, die, and rise again. He said, “The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected… and be killed, and after three days rise again” (Mark 8:31). Again He declared, “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). At the Last Supper, He explained the meaning of His sacrifice, saying, “This is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins” (Matthew 26:28). These words show clearly that His death was not an accident, but the very plan of God for the forgiveness of sins.

After His resurrection, Jesus confirmed that His death and rising from the dead were necessary for forgiveness and salvation. He said, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem” (Luke 24:46–47). This shows that His death and resurrection were at the center of God’s plan, but notice again that He included repentance as part of the message, not faith alone without change of life.

However, Jesus never preached that His death alone, without obedience to Him, would save anyone. He taught clearly that salvation also requires faith and obedience. He said, “If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15). He warned that perseverance is necessary: “He who endures to the end shall be saved” (Matthew 24:13). And He declared that final judgment will be based on His words: “The word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day” (John 12:48). This means His teachings remain the standard, even after His death and resurrection.

So yes, Jesus preached that His death and resurrection are the foundation for salvation, but He never reduced salvation to simply believing that He died for you. His message always included repentance, obedience, faithfulness to His commandments, and following Him as Lord. His death provided the ransom, His resurrection brought victory over death, and through both He opened the way for eternal life—but only to those who repent, believe, and endure in obedience until the end.

Blessings

I believe all that Peter did and said. but he is not my apostle
Obviously Paul is but know his gospel message is incomplete and lacking, study Paul's gospel for yourself , note the key elements in his epistles, then do the same for what Christ said and did, then compare and see. until you do this you will never understand properly. and will be missing important elements that Paul barely touched or forgot. A long process but a good and essential one.

He warned that perseverance is necessary: “He who endures to the end shall be saved” (Matthew 24:13).
Israel had to endure to the end to be saved to enter the earthly kingdom

Paul preached mainly the cross, death and resurrection of Christ but many very important aspects that Jesus preached are lacking from Paul's gospel that he calls ""MY GOSPEL""

Paul calls it MY DOCTRINE here too

2 Ti 3:10 But thou hast fully known MY DOCTRINE

However, Jesus does not call his doctrine his own

John 7:16 Jesus answered them, and said, MY DOCTRINE IS NOT MINE,
BUT HIS that sent ME.

Even though John calls it the DOCTRINE OF CHRIST

2 John 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST, hath not God. He that abideth in THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST, he hath both the Father and the Son.

Jesus words were given to him

Deut 18:18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put MY WORDS IN HIS MOUTH; and HE SHALL SPEAK unto them all that I SHALL COMMAND HIM.

John 12:49 For I have NOT SPOKEN OF MYSELF; but the Father which sent me, HE GAVE ME A COMMANDMENT, what I should say, and WHAT I SHOULD SPEAK.

Which makes sense that

2 John 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST, hath NOT GOD.

Since had Jesus said,

John 17:8 For I have given unto them THE WORDS which THOU GAVEST ME

Jesus was given the words of eternal life (John 6:68) And it was determined that (John 14:6) no man cometh unto the Father, but BY ME (Deut 18:18 & John 12:48)

He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me. John 12:44

And so, He that abideth in THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST, he hath BOTH the Father AND the Son.

So on the one hand we have the gospel of Jesus Christ, and or the doctrine of Christ, and Jesus tells us that his doctrine (that which he taught) was not his. "MY doctrine is NOT mine" but HIS that sent me. In Paul's Romans 1:1 introduction he tells us he is separated for the gospel of God, but also calls the gospel "MY gospel" (which is simply the gospel that he preached. But Paul also calls it the gospel of Christ many more times.

We were talking about John the Baptist
You started out saying John said Jesus was the lamb of God.......that's John the baptist
Actually, the OP wasn't talking about John the Baptist.

And contextually, there was a reason to post the passage on John 1:29.

No one could enter heaven before Christ so yes he would of preached the gospel in hell to free the ones who don't belong there right up to Adam and Eve all who were waiting for the Savior in faith. All saved the same way we are by faith.

Christ opened the gates of heaven

There is the White thrown judgment were they will be judged by their deeds not all will be rejected or there is no point to the judgment all would simply be destine to the lake of fire.

Paul was sent to Jews also...............[Act 9:15 KJV] 15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:

Acts 13:46 Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly: "It was necessary to speak the word of God to you first. But since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles.

I did not say that Paul was sent to the Gentiles....
The Apostle Paul had a lot of trouble with the Jews and Jewish-Christians because he preached things they found offense including no need to observe the Law. But I do not think that he hated them.

What does that mean?

Christ is the only way to be saved. That is New Testament.
Some believe that some like Noah and Abraham were saved in the Old Testament. Did they go to Heaven? The scriptures never actually say they went to Heaven.....Some thing good happened to them.....

There is ONE Gospel. All of the apostles taught the same gospel. If you take away from one you have no true gospel.
Paul taught repentance. That is clear. unless you ignore most of what he wrote and cherry pick only the ear ticklers.

For you know what commandments we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. 3For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; 4that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 5not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God; 6and that no man transgress and defraud his brother in the matter because the Lord is the avenger in all these things, just as we also told you before and solemnly warned you. 7For God has not called us for the purpose of impurity, but in sanctification. 8So, he who rejects this is not rejecting man but the God who gives His Holy Spirit to you.
1 Thes 4:2-8

Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who submit to or perform homosexual acts, / nor thieves,
nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. --1 Cor 6

The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; / idolatry and sorcery; hatred, discord, jealousy, and rage; rivalries, divisions, factions, / and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. --Galatians 5:19-21

But among you, as is proper among the saints, there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed. / Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk, or crude joking, which are out of character, but rather thanksgiving. / For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure, or greedy person (that is, an idolater) has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Eph 5:3-5

For it is God’s will that you should be holy: You must abstain from sexual immorality; / each of you must know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, / not in lustful passion like the Gentiles who do not know God; 1 Thes 4:3-5

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its desires. / Do not present the parts of your body to sin as instruments of wickedness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and present the parts of your body to Him as instruments of righteousness. Ro 6:12-13

For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. Ro 8:13

Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. --Colossians 3:5

Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? Ro 6:16

Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. / Instead, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the desires of the flesh. Ro 13

Flee from youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, together with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 2 Tim 2:22

Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
Ro 6:6

Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. Ro 6:13

[Matthew 16:21-23 KJV] 21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. 22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. 23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

Many say that Peter and the twelve preached the one and only gospel.

Paul preached the death and resurrection of Christ for salvation.

[1Corinthians 15:1, 3-4 KJV] 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; ... 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

What was Peter's response when Jesus spoke of his death and resurrection? Peter rebuked the Lord saying this would not happen.

How could Peter preach the death and resurrection for salvation and at the same time deny it?
How can Paul preach the gospel while murdering Christians?

That's how ridiculous your premise is.

Stop attacking Peter to elevate Paul.

Yea, Abraham was a good guy.
I am sure God took care of him.....Now what that exactly means? I am going to leave it at that.
The way I look at it....In the Old Testament Heaven was the abode of God. In the New Testament Christ opened the gates of Heaven to humans.

[1Ti 1:12-16 KJV] 12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; 13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did [it] ignorantly in unbelief. 14 And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 15 This [is] a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. 16 Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.

You framed Peter as diminished due to his previous greiviences .
Under that model, you need to diminish Paul as well.

The scriptures never say that the thief went to Heaven, nor do the scriptures say that Christ went from the cross to Heaven. You can debate what Christ meant by paradise as has been debated for centuries.
Baptistm wasn't a requirement for salvation until Christ died; so, the thief was forgiven by Christ while Christ was yet alive under the old testament. Anyone that uses the thief to validate their argument against baptism is totally wrong as is their belief. Read Hebrews 9:15-17

And paradise is the 3rd heaven according to scripture, 2 Cor 12:2-4

I didn’t say anything about Baptism or if Christ could not declare the thief saved.
More than one place can be called paradise….Eden for example.
If the scriptures meant Heaven they could have said they went to Heaven.
And after the resurrection Christ told Mary Magdalene that He had not ascended to His Father yet.
