Reading my devotional this morning I wondered how people can not believe in God when the same God is described in every book of the bible - 66 of them – written by vastly different people from Moses right through till the gospels, epistles and revelation. And they all in their own day and age see the same God.

For thousands of years right to the present day there have been descriptions of God's grace and love; his forgiveness and faithfulness. And these descriptions from vastly differing folk from all ages and all walks of life. And yet people still won't believe.

I didn't want to believe it, because I'd be accountable. But the day came when I was confronted with the fact that the Book was like none other, and I believed.

Much love!

Matthew 24:12
And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

The Book of John
4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

Because people no longer believe in love, they reject God because God is love.

Ma'am, do you really think so? I have had more than one person comment to me that the God of the New Testament seem to be more gracious and loving than the wrathful God of the Old Testament. (One of my Catholic neighbors speculated that God, like many human men, kinda mellowed out after having a Kid.) In the early church, Marcion of Sinope in the first Century believed that the god described in the Old Testament was an inferior demiurge and the REAL God sent Jesus Christ to fix that. Marcion is credited with establishing the first biblical canon - which didn't include any of the Old Testament, but only the letters of Paul and a modified version of Luke's gospel.

I have always believed that the entire human Family Tree is the tree of life and the tree of good and evil itself.

So this theory you're talking about is very strange, in my opinion.

God knew that humans would make mistakes when he created them, and God had a plan to save us.

He arranged according to his own plan, or severe or kind, why should anyone point a finger at these things?

Fortunately, the Early Church Fathers agreed with you and excommunicated Marcion for heresy. (Though we do have some pseudo-Marcionites on this forum.) But I did want to point out that the biblical writers do see God differently, depending on the perspective of their particular situation. And others have pointed this out to me. The time of the Judges, Solomon's kingdom, pre-exile, post-exile, post-Resurrection, the expansion into the Gentile world. Different situation; different perspective on God.

So that's why we call God the Father, the Father in the world when he's tough, when he's merciful, But it's all for the good of the child, and of course a secular father can't be compared to a father like God, But there will be commonalities. After all, we were made in the image of him.

My stepson's natural father was a hateful and abusive man; I have to wonder how much that played into his estrangement from the Heavenly Father.

He died last year. Cancer.
Sorry to hear that.
May God be with him.
I believe cancer manifests as one form of this world’s brokenness—
human fallenness spreads like malignancy, driving creation toward decay.

Yet all human sickness, I contend, ultimately serves to glorify God’s Word,
just as other diseases in Scripture do:
blindness reveals spiritual sightlessness,
and so forth.
