Now you are just having a conversation with yourself. Maybe it's time to go outside and play?

Anyway, you seem to know so much about me, but you don't seem to know what I think of your topic.

Much love!
What I think is your faced with a dilemma. The words you claim Jesus would have used if he was speaking literally are not very different than what he actually said but you would be no more likely to believe him which means you don't believe Jesus. Don't get angry with me.

What a crock!

So this was all just your end run trying to trick people into your so-called dilemma.

Read the passage. His words are spirit.

But if you misuse His words the way you misuse mine, If you miss the meaning of His words as you do mine, well, best to start from the beginning, and work your way through the Scriptures slowly, carefully.

Much love!

So on another thread about OSAS a discussion has been raging about John 6. Is Jesus speaking literally when he says "Amen Amen I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood you do not have life within you. Whoever feeds upon my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life and I will raise him up on the last day".

Now this is kind of thought experiment. For this discussion we're going to assume Jesus was not speaking literally. With that in mind the experiment is:

What specific words do you think Jesus would have used if he was speaking literally?

Please don't use the l, Jesus would never say such a thing, argument as that's lazy both intellectually and theologically. Please be specific in your replies. Thank you in advance and I'm looking forward to the responses
Unless you literally consume my human body and drink the blood that flows from my veins, you cannot have life

And I asked if he thought the answer he gave would more likely compel him to believe Jesus was speaking literally. He hasn't answered they and neither have you
We have answered your question (at least I have) so many times I have lost count.

Again I ask you. why do you focus on 7 words. and not the MANY words Jesus says.?

O mean Peter did not take him literally. so why should I.

especially. when the Flesh you claim jesus is talking about does not even give anyone eternal life or assure they will be raised on the last day..

54 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

Again, why do you focus on the command, but reject what those who do the command are promised to receive?

You claim you have eaten his flesh and drank his blood.

Are you assured of eternal life?

Are you assured he WILL raise you on the last day?

The words of Jesus. Why does anyone focus on a few words. and not all of them,

lets focus on all the words. and also why do we not focus on the results of those who obey?

so in the following I will show ALL the words Jesus said what he commanded, and what those who obey will recieve

In black is the command

In blue is what the one who follows the command will receive

27 Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, ,

Command – Labor for this food that Jesus came to give

Result – The food will endure forever

33 For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

What is this food?

He who comes down from heaven

Result – Life is offered to the world

35: “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall
never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

Jesus is the one who came down from heaven He is the bread of life

Command: Come to him –

Result. You will never hunger

Command – Believe

Result – Never thirst

36: the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.

Command – Come to me

Result – You will never be cast out

39: that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.

Fact – All who are given to God

Result – Will never be lost, and will be raised on the last day

40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”

Command – See and believe

Result – You will live forever (eternal life) and you will be raised on the last day

47
Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life.

Command – Believe in him

Result – You will live forever (eternal life)

50 This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die.

Command – Eat the bread

Result – you will never die

51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever;

Command – Eat this bread

Result – Live forever

52: and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”

What is this bread? My life I give

Result – Life of the world

53 Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.

Command – Fail to eat the flesh and blood (the bread)

Result – you have no life in you (your dead)

54 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

Command – Eat my flesh and blood (the bread)

Result – You will live forever (eternal life) and you will be raised on the last day

56 He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.

Command Eat my flesh and drink my blood

Result – You will abide in him, and he will abide in you. As he lives you will live also

57 As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me.

Command – Feed on him

Result – You will live

58: He who eats this bread will live forever.”.

Command – Eat this bread

Result – You will live forever

Jesus came to give life. He said whoever eats this bread (feeds on him ) will get life. So what is it that gives life?

Jesus answers this also

62 What then if you should see the Son of Man ascend where He was before? 63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

  • Jesus said he was the bread sent down from heave
  • Jesus asked, what if you see him ascend back to heaven (which many of them would in the future after his death)
  • The thing that gives life (the food, the bread, the flesh and blood) is given by the spirit.
  • The food which gives life ARE THE WORDS JESUS SPEAKS as given by the spirit
I honestly do not see why people make this conversation so difficult

Jesus said do this, If you do this, i will give you that.

Its simple..

This is not an end run. Jesus uses the words "eat my flesh" you tell me he doesn't mean literally mean eat his flesh. Ok. I concede he doesn't mean it literally. So because I misunderstood him I am asking you to tell me what words would he have used if he did mean it literally. That's a reasonable question given the circumstances.

Thank you! Finally someone with courage. How is that substantially different than "eat my flesh and drink blood"? Why use those words at all if he didn't mean it literally?

He gave a statement, and then explained Himself. There is nothing to add. Read the passage, and then interpret it according to what Jesus said.

No one - not one person - can tell you what someone would have said if they meant something else. Anyone can make up whatever they want, just like I did (purely for effect, mind you).

Much love!

He said, eat my flesh and drink my blood but you claim he didn't mean it literally but nothing he said indicated he didn't mean it literally

John 6:60-63 KJV
60) Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?
61) When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?
62) What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
63) It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Hypotheticals are not real, and not relevant, because just anyone can make up just anything, and the originator of the hypothetical can twist and turn it however they like. So it's not meaningful.

That has NOTHING to do whether he meant that literally or not. The "words" are "eat my flesh and drink my blood". THE flesh is not HIS flesh. Stop it
