That’s how God hides things from the wisdom of world and reveals to those who are seeking the truth.
The number two in the Bible usually points to grace (New Testament, 2nd Testament) or the word of God (cloven tongues in Acts). The Bible is an amazing book!
The Bible is written in such a way that you can understand all doctrines 100% right or you can be lead down the “works salvation” road or the “I need guns” road.
Basically the Bible gives enough rope that it will hang everyone not seeking the truth. Hence all the crazy theologies in corporate “Christianity”.
For me the sword and the ear is what I was looking at, as well as the sword out of the mouth and the smiting mentioned in relation to the same, and the usual.
They were to buy one if they did not have one
Luke 22:36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip:
and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
Luke 22:38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.
So they had swords in their possesion and soon after they ask specifically
Luke 22:49 When they which were about him saw what would follow,
they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?
Mark leaves this one nameless
Mark 14:47 And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest,
and cut off his ear.
Which was not followed by a rebuke here in Mark, but is shown as being Peter
John 18:10 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.
He was reproved this way here
John 18:11 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?
Whereas in Luke he says to him
Luke 22:51 And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.
And again this way
Mat 26:52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
They had swords in their posession though, were told to buy one if they did not have one, and even asked Jesus if they should smite them who came for Jesus
Jesus also said,
John 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
