Oil in our water? Anyone hear of that?

I have been seeing oil film on the top of my tap water. It is a relatively thin layer and at a parts per million obviously. But still alarming.

I read the water report from the water district and I believe it stated only (c h l o r i n e) and flourine additives.

The water district was out flushing the lines a while back. Said they were old lines and had built up sediment.

Anyways, oil? That's not a flow rate increasing agent is it? Or something different?

It's the Everett WA water district and serves massive areas as one of the only sources from the mountains.

Alarming, yes. Question: contamination from the district source or your plumbing? Not suitable for washing really, much less consumption.

My water also has oil in it and it looks like some sort of vegetable oil. Which is strange. The smell is unique enough to notice.

I noticed a lot of persons switched to bottled water at the stores. They sell "pure municipal tap water" by the gallon from "a local source". It's also a 10% tax mandatory donation to the Democratic state, county and city governing agencies, unless that's Federal. All the immigrants support the tax donations by association.

Yeah something like that was on the news also for a large amount of people in some state.

Anyone who lives in west texas knows the water aint safe to drink .
Heck one might even have to boil it first even to bathe .
Our water is horrendous . And some of it is hard water , so hard one might even have to cut it with a knife
to partake of it . Our water is nasty . Sometimes even grass groans when the hose it turned on .
Oh that might be a bit of exaggeration . But done so to make a point . Dont drink west texas water .

Water filtration system is not that expensive. It may be better than buying water bottles. Anyway, you should do some lab tests to know what is the situation in your house.

Had a guy come to the house try to sell me a whole house water purification system.
It was either $5000, or $15000, I said no thank you!
We ushered him out the door.

He claimed our water was full of crine, ok...
He claimed our water had nasty bacteria and dirt in it, did some test dumping in chemicals to make it turn milky, and said it was the worst he had ever seen.

We like the water, it tastes good. It is clear, has no odor at all.
We are not in an area of hard water.
My parents used to live in Blacksburg VA, up in the mountains and that was hard water with minerals. Harder to clean things, but it tasted fine, and no smell. A well went down 600 feet and it flowed great. The land was about 30 minute drive from the university, VA tech.

So when they sold the house, someone else turned off the heat, and guess what... the pipes froze, burst and 1000's of gallons flowed from the upstairs filling the house with thick ice on the floors everywhere, all the way into the basement. Many inches of ice. No one knew about that for at least a month. Entire inside of a 3 level home destroyed.

That style home was built as solid wood walls bolted beams, and the inside was all exposed Douglass fir, like you see those wood homes with vaulted wood ceiling beams everywhere, a very nice home on 32 acres. Outside was cedar wood.

The buyers did repair it. Any sheet rock and all the oak floors had to ripped out. Wood stairs replaced. The wood walls and ceiling survived.

We have owned that home since 1987 and never a problem with the water. My son inlaw and daughter like it, and they have 5 young kids who they hope can move into it someday! We'll see about that. It does have 6 bedrooms.

Yes, the generation of Boomers is house-rich. Such a house is mostly an unrealistic dream for the younger generations... it is great that you can help them with that.

Culligan water filtration and water sofener systems run around $2200 installed.​

That is stll more than I paid in 1995. it was like $400

I told my wife decades ago, every new house we buy, we should keep the old one and rent it, but she did not want the trouble. Our first house in 1983, we paid $60,000, sold 3 years later for $80,000. Today it is worth almost $300,000, and that one was built in 1942, but another owner added on to it back in the 90's. Housing and rent prices ae shocking, I wonder what they will be in 20 or 30 years.

Same deal in Australia, How can young people afford such prices or rent.
The Government clearly has caused this attack on the younger generation.
My Nipper's can pay $900 a Week Rent easy where they are for a unit.

Nextdoor the young people have just moved out, they have 2 new cars and brought up 2 kids their, bought a New Home ! all flash like nowadays are.

But lets look back to the 1950's 60's regardless who had 2 cars let alone new ! and most had a small house that was added to as years went by, kids had 2 or 3 to a bed room the norm ! around here many lived in the garage first for some time, till the House could be built. and that was the good old days ! before that was far worse !
