Believe in Christ and Be Saved

Beloved brothers and sisters in Christ, many people today think that simply believing in Christ—knowing who He is, knowing what He did, and doing nothing else—will save them. They think that faith is only mental agreement or a prayer on a moment of conviction. But Scripture shows us this is not true. Even the demons believe in God—they know who He is, they know His power—and yet they do not obey Him. James tells us plainly, “You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!” (James 2:19). Belief alone, without action, without following Jesus’ words, without letting Him guide your life, is dead. Pisteuō—true belief—demands trust, surrender, and a life that reflects the Lord we claim to believe in.

The Bible tells us clearly: “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life” (John 3:36). But what does it truly mean to believe in Jesus? The Greek word used here is πιστεύω—pisteuō. This word is not a shallow word. It does not mean just saying “I believe” with your lips, or having some mental agreement. Pisteuō carries the meaning of trust, reliance, and commitment. It is putting your life fully into the hands of the One who died for you and rose again. It is faith that moves the heart, faith that shapes your life, and faith that produces action.

Jesus Himself shows us that belief is never just words. He said, “If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15). And He warned, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven” (Matthew 7:21). You see, there is a difference between saying you believe and truly trusting. A seed may be planted on rocky soil—it sprouts quickly, but it cannot take root. So it is with faith that is only in words. True belief grows, bears fruit, and changes the life of the believer.

When someone asked Jesus, “Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?” (Matthew 19:16), He answered, “If you want to enter life, keep the commandments” (Matthew 19:17). Here is the heart of the gospel: to believe in Christ is to trust in His sacrifice, to surrender your life to His care, and to allow His Word and His Spirit to guide your steps. The commandments are not a burden; they are God’s covenant written in our hearts, showing us how to love Him and love others. Faith without works is dead, James tells us. But faith that trusts, obeys, and follows Jesus is alive and powerful.

Think for a moment about what Jesus endured on the cross. He was betrayed, mocked, beaten, and nailed to a tree. He bore the weight of every sin, every sorrow, every wrong we have ever done. And yet, He did not hold back. On the third day, He rose again, proving the power of God over death. Every act of love, every sacrifice, every command He gave shows the depth of God’s mercy for us. To believe in Him is to accept this sacrifice and allow it to change your life.

Belief, then, is not passive. It is living faith—the living water Jesus spoke of, which flows from Him into our hearts (John 4:10–14; John 7:37–39). This living water refreshes, strengthens, and transforms us, producing obedience, love, and fruit in our lives. Pisteuō means that your faith becomes visible in your life—through how you love your neighbor, through how you follow God’s commandments, through the choices you make each day to walk in His ways. To believe in Christ is to place your life in His hands, to follow Him, and to allow His Spirit to write His commandments in your heart.

Jesus calls us today. He calls us to trust Him fully, to rely on His blood for forgiveness, and to allow His Word to be the guiding light of our hearts. Salvation begins with belief, but it does not stop there. True belief bears the fruit of obedience and transforms the soul. It leads us into everlasting life, into fellowship with God, into a life that shines His light in a dark world.

So let us hear His invitation and respond. Believe in Christ. Trust Him completely. Follow Him with all your heart. Let His commandments guide your steps, His love fill your heart, and His Spirit shape your life. Pisteuō is not mere words—it is a living faith, a faith that saves, a faith that obeys, a faith that endures forever. And the one who truly believes will not only be saved but will shine with His light, bringing life, hope, and love to the world around them. Amen.

Saved from the second death, Jesus can give us something no one else can, eternal life. This path starts with belief but it is only the first step.

Many believe it is true but how many truly do God's will, very few. Believing is somewhat easy, following Christ and do what he asked of us is not. Many refuse even if Christ himself said so is this;

If ye love me, keep my commandments. (John 14:15)
If thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.(Mat 19:17)

Believe in Christ and Be Saved

Beloved brothers and sisters in Christ, many people today think that simply believing in Christ—knowing who He is, knowing what He did, and doing nothing else—will save them. They think that faith is only mental agreement or a prayer on a moment of conviction. But Scripture shows us this is not true. Even the demons believe in God—they know who He is, they know His power—and yet they do not obey Him. James tells us plainly, “You believe that there is one God. You do well.

It's not enough to simply believe "mental assent" in who Jesus is and knowing what He did. Even the demons believe that. In James 2:19, we see that the demons believe "mental assent" that "there is one God," but they do not believe in the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 16:31) and are not saved. Their trust and reliance are in Satan (and not in Jesus) as demonstrated by their rebellion in heaven and continuous evil works. The demons do not follow Jesus' words because they reject Jesus, which explains the lack of obedience. Now there is a difference between mere "mental assent" belief (as the demons have) and saving belief in Christ, which the demons do not have. Same Greek word for believe (pisteuo) in James 2:19 and Acts 16:31. Depending on the context, believe can be used either way.

We need to understand the difference between merely believing something in our head and believing in our heart. Example: The demons believe "mental assent" that the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ "happened", but the demons do not believe the gospel by trusting in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ as the ALL-sufficient means of their salvation. (Romans 1:16; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4) That is believing in our heart. Belief without action (results in no action) refusing to follow Jesus’ words, is dead. James refutes this kind of faith which is not genuine faith but an empty profession of faith/dead faith. (James 2:14) So, James is refuting and bare profession of faith and is not teaching salvation by works, in contradiction to Paul. (Romans 4:2-6)

In James 2:14, we read of one who says/claims he has faith but has no works (to evidence his claim). That is not genuine faith, but a bare profession of faith. So, when James asks, "Can that faith save him?" he is saying nothing against genuine faith, but only against an empty profession of faith/dead faith. So, James does not teach that we are saved "by" works. His concern is to show the reality of the faith professed by the individual (James 2:18) and demonstrate that the faith claimed (James 2:14) by the individual is genuine. Simple!

James is not using the word "justified" in James 2:24 to mean "accounted as righteous" but is shown to be righteous. James is discussing the evidence of faith (says-claims to have faith but has no works/I will show you my faith by my works - James 2:14-18) and not the initial act of being accounted as righteous with God. (Romans 4:2-3) Works bear out the justification that already came by faith.

In regard to the rich young ruler in Matthew 19, Jesus showed him how short he falls of keeping even the first commandment (Exodus 20:3) which is the first of the two great commandments. (Deuteronomy 6:5; Matthew 22:37) The rich young ruler confidently and (self-righteously) declared that he has kept the commandments from his youth up and qualified for heaven under those terms. Yet Jesus knew the man's wealth had become his idolatrous god, which kept him from believing in Jesus unto salvation. (John 3:18)

The rich young ruler missed the point that Jesus was making, failed to place his faith in Jesus for salvation, and continued instead to trust in his riches (Matthew 19:21-23). He went away sad because he could not part from his great wealth, not even in exchange for eternal life. Now if keeping the commandments is the basis or means by which we receive eternal life, then this would be the pattern for all discussions concerning eternal life. Paul would have said to the jailer who asked, "what must I do to be saved?" by replying in Acts 16:31 - "keep the commandments and you will be saved," yet instead, Paul said - "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.."

Jesus knows the hearts of all men and responds to each individual a little differently because He knows where their need is. He didn't respond to the woman at the well, or to Nicodemus or to the rich young ruler the exact same way, yet the consistent pattern in scripture is salvation by grace through faith, not works. (Ephesians 2:8,9)

Glory to God,
Faithful and True and Just is He.

Taken
According to the words of Christ;

Mat 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days: ‘The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.’

Who is the believer now? those who listen to his words or you who believe something else?

Believe - pisteuó: To believe, to have faith, to trust
Original Word: πιστεύω
Part of Speech: Verb
Transliteration: pisteuó
Pronunciation: pis-tyoo'-o
Phonetic Spelling: (pist-yoo'-o)
KJV: believe(-r), commit (to trust), put in trust with
NASB: believe, believed, believes, believing, entrusted, believers, do
Word Origin: [from G4102 (πίστις - faith)]

1. to have faith (in, upon, or with respect to, a person or thing), i.e. credit
2. (by implication) to entrust (especially one's spiritual well-being to Christ)

Strong's Greek: 4100. πιστεύω (pisteuó) -- To believe, to have faith, to trust Strong's Greek: 4100. πιστεύω (pisteuó) -- To believe, to have faith, to trust

Yes, we see this word used here in verse 13, whereby these on ground did in fact believe (G4100) but only for a while.

But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. Luke 8:13

We also see the word believe (pisteuo) in James 2:19, in which we read the demons believe "mental assent" that "there is one God," but they do not believe (pisteuo) in the Lord Jesus Christ and are not saved. (Acts 16:31) In Luke 8:13, this temporary, shallow belief that had no root, lacked moisture and produced no fruit was not saving belief.

So, depending on the context, believe (pisteuo) may be referring to saving belief in Christ (Acts 16:31) or to a belief that falls short of saving belief. (Luke 8:13; James 2:19)

Again, the quality of their believing is not what Jesus is pointing to, but the fact that they didn’t continue to believe.

And what did JESUS tell the UN BELEIVING jews
and what did the jewish apostels tell the unbelieving jews .
And now a word .
WHY am i hearing
WHY am i seeing
a mindset that seemth to call UNBLEIEVING JEWS FINE and dandy
and now even calleth muslims , hindus and other religoins as fine and dandy too .
cause I PROMISE US ALL
that IS NOT WHAT JESUS told the jews who rejected HIM .
Nor paul , peter and others .
BEHOLD wonder and PERISH for i work a work in your days that ye will not BELEIVE though a man declare it unto you .
I DIDNT see JESUS or any other apostel
when facing the jews who rejected JESUS as the CHRIST
ever saying , OH ITS OKAY YOU GODS KIDDOS too . THAT AINT what JESUS said .
HE didnt tell them OH your FATHER IS GOD . HE spoke of another father to them jews wh o beleived
not and said to them YE DO the work of your father , THE DEVIL . SO your right , LETS BELEIVE JESUS and not men .

Yes believing without obeying is what falls short.
The without obeying part (no works) confirms a spurious belief. Faith without works is dead. (James 2:14-20)
The demons “believe” There is one God, but they continue to obey Satan.

Of course, these were demons James was referring to, and not humans.
Of course, the demons continue to obey Satan. Their trust and reliance are in Satan (and not in Jesus Christ) as demonstrated by their rebellion in heaven and continuous evil works. Even though demons are not human, they are still capable of "mental assent" belief.
In verse 13 these did believe and were saved.
Show me the word "saved" in verse 13 and I will show you a shallow, temporary belief that has no root, lacks moisture, produces not fruit and withers away. No spiritual life. (Matthew 13:20-21; Mark 4:5-6; Luke 8:6,13)
The reason they were saved is because they were persecuted as Christians.
Speculation. Scripture says - When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. (Matthew 13:21) If they were Christians, then they would not have quickly fallen away, which demonstrates an emotional response to the gospel and a shallow belief.
Again, the quality of their believing is not what Jesus is pointing to, but the fact that they didn’t continue to believe.

But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. Luke 8:13
  • who believe for a while
Those who no longer believe are no longer saved.
More speculation. The quality of their believing was the problem. Their heart condition is contrasted with that of the "good ground" hearer in the 4th soil, who's heart was good and honest. Thus, his heart was not "good," being like the soil to which it corresponds, being "shallow" or "rocky," lacking sufficient depth. Such soil represents a sinner not properly prepared in heart. People who "believe" and "rejoice" at the preaching of the gospel without a prepared heart, and without a good and honest heart, and without having root in themselves, do not experience real salvation. Unlike saving belief, temporary, shallow belief is not rooted in a regenerate heart. How can no depth of earth, no root, no moisture, no fruit, represent saving belief? It doesn't.
