I always wanted a MacArthur study Bible but these days I am not sure.

In all honesty, I'm looking at the Life Study Application Bible app and before I pay $10 I want to know its worth it. If I like the book on the app, I might get the paper book.

It says its the number one copy sold in the USA so I figured one of our Bible collectors would have decent insight.

I do not like the MSG translation, at all

I don't have experience with the App. However,I did look on Google play and it is free there.
Lucky! Is that from Tecarta?

This one is and is more in depth. I don't have Google play, so I'm stuck on Kindle.

What is your goal in purchasing a new Bible?

If the Message is too loose for your preferences, ESV tends to be more literal while still blending in enough thought-for-thought translation to suit most readers.

I like getting as close to source material as I am able and tend to structure my own studies around whatever word I don't recognize or don't understand the use of in a given reading.

May you find a Bible to bless your reach toward God, and may He respond with His light upon you for the effort.

Somewhere I’ve got the MacArthur Study Bible app for Windows on a CD. Johnny Mac’s commentary wasn’t worth it.
I love John MacArthur, but admittedly, the condescending commentaries pushed me away a bit.

Deeper theological/apologetic study but not so in over my head that I can't breathe.

Actual theology though. Women's Bibles often don't touch anything beyond day to day common sense.

I would highly suggest the oldest Webster's dictionary you could find in print. I cherish my 1860 and 1952 editions.

Words meant more before the internet. Definitions provided online are insufficient and in some cases misleading or outright inaccurate.

Particularly with many of the most delectable words among the available translations of the Prophets. I saw the word "bombast" in Jeremiah the other day.

People don't seem to believe me, but it's amazing what frequent references to an old print dictionary can do for your understanding.

Actual theology though. Women's Bibles often don't touch anything beyond day to day common sense.

Theology comes from two Greek words. First is 'Theos,' which means "God," and 'logos,' which kinda means "word" but the actual Greek word for "word" is 'rhema.'

The word 'logos' is the one John equated with God, saying that God was the Word. That word means more like "discourse, expression, vernacular" or a way about saying things.

God's way about saying things is truth, but anything with -ology attached means a set of words developed for talking about what is put in front of -ology. Theology is talking about God, which results in doctrines.

Jesus and the Prophets call doctrines 'dead men's bones' because they only support the ideas of God but without God in them, which is why so many of them exist.

Look up the words. God is called the Word for a marvelous reason.

I did an AI search for the LSB. This may assist you.

The Life Application Study Bible (LASB) apps, now part of the "Life Bible" ecosystem by Tecarta, are highly regarded for their rich content and user-friendly design, though the business model has drawn some user criticism. The apps offer a comprehensive digital study experience, accessible on mobile devices and the web.

Key Features and Strengths
  • Rich Content: The apps include nearly 10,000 Life Application notes, over 100 personality profiles of Bible figures, book introductions, timelines, and more than 400 maps and charts to help users apply God's truth to daily life.
  • User Experience: Features like highlighting with multiple colors, note-taking, side-by-side translation comparison (split-screen), and offline access are frequently praised for enhancing personal study and ministry effectiveness.
  • Practical Focus: The core mission is to help users understand God's Word and apply it to their lives, which is a major draw for users seeking practical guidance.
  • Additional Resources: A wide range of supplemental materials are available, including various Bible translations (KJV, NIV, NLT, ESV, etc.), commentaries, devotionals, and audio Bibles, often with a 7-day free trial.
  • Sync & Backup: User-created content, such as notes, bookmarks, and highlights, can be backed up to a free Tecarta account and synced across multiple devices.

User Concerns
  • Purchase Model: Some long-time users express frustration over the transition from one-time purchases for specific content to a subscription-based "Premium" model, or the introduction of ads in the free version.
  • Interface Changes: Updates, particularly the rebrand to "Life Bible," have led to some initial confusion and a learning curve for users accustomed to the previous, simpler interface.
  • Ads: A significant concern has been the presence of inappropriate or disruptive ads in the free version, though Tecarta has worked on filtering this content.
  • Sharing Notes: A recent change to sharing personal notes requires the recipient to also download the app to view the note, which some find inconvenient for casual sharing.
For more information or to download the app, visit the Life Bible website or check the app stores (Google Play, Apple App Store).

I consulted the Spirit and received this appropriation of the AI feedback for the purpose of applying directly to Scriptures:

Key Features and Strengths
  • Rich Content: The Bible contains a complete concatenation of Christ’s cause.
  • User Experience: Users have reported everlasting joy and peace.
  • Practical Focus: The core message of the Bible is pure Truth, historic record, and divine metaphor.
  • Additional Resources: Anything presented as a resource can be fully evaluated according to the principles established within the pages of the Bible Itself.
  • Sync & Backup: User-created content, such as memories, thoughts, and prayers, can be accessed by contacting the Spirit.
User Concerns
  • Purchase Model: Some long-time users express frustration over phrasing.
  • Interface Changes: Updates have led to some confusion.
  • Ads: A significant concern has been the insertion of extraneous words among Scripture, interpretations made in confidence called called “teachings.”
  • Sharing Notes: It is advisable to compare logic, reason, and rationality in discussions of faith, as vain imaginations have run rampant over the millenia.
Thank you for reading :)

I believe you are truly seeking Him. I will share with you how I found God.

Step 1. Read the Bible

Step 2. Look up every word you do not have a CERTAIN definition for or have not referenced at least once

Step 3. Believe what you read

Practice it until it becomes habit until it becomes Life and Joy and Peace.

You read the first four words, didn't you? :)
Lol

I think it just jumped out at me first. Admittedly, I scan things quickly and then read thoroughly. If my interest is peeked I read it again. This one I read again and it was well worth it. lfh

I decided I would give it a shot. I already had Life Bible, which now it looks like they are both from the same company.

I tend to not like Life Bible because its so cluttered. However, I'll be guinea pig because if I don't like the Study Bible app, I'll just ask for a refund.

So far it looks okay. You get to click on the maps and side things to read more.

Also you can buy other Bible versions, including the MacArthur Bible through it so that's pretty cool.
