[Luke 24:44 KJV] "And he said unto them, These [are] the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and [in] the prophets, and [in] the psalms, concerning me."
[Luke 24:45 KJV] "Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,"
[Luke 24:46 KJV] "And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:"

Jesus opened the understanding of the scriptures to the disciples, but would not have told the disciples of the salvation his death and resurrection accomplished because it was a hidden mystery. It was hid from the disciples and they didn't understand his death and resurrection...........[Luke 9:44 KJV] "Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men."
[Luke 9:45 KJV] "But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying."..........Paul received the mystery gospel that Christ died for our sins and rose for our justification..........[Ephesians 6:19 KJV] "And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,".........this was not revealed to the twelve disciples.

Jesus taught “Knowledge”.

Spiritual “Knowledge” is Not Logical to a mans Carnal Mind, thus Puzzling.

“Understanding” of “Spiritual Knowledge”…comes;
From the “source”… the Lord God…
To a man.

This is a common dilemma for men, even Satan… who have knowledge of Spiritual things, but not “Spiritual Understanding”.

Glory to God,
Taken

Your conclusion 'this was not revealed to the twelve disciples.' is nothing but foolishness, Doug

Perhaps, but the revelation dawned upon them after Christ had arisen.

John 2:22 - 22 Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said.
NKJV
Although the disciples were told, their realisation of what they had been told made more sense to them after Jesus had risen and was revealed to them.
