Yes, like yesterday. 40 yrs ago. I received the gift of Knowledge. The Holy Spirit speaks to me, Jesus speaks to me. I dream prophet dreams. Praise the Lord and Thank you Jesus.
You are an exceptional person not to battle the flesh. Not to feel anger at something, never upset because something happens at work, and not frustrated in long lines, or traffic when someone pulls out in front of you, or order a package that is delivered to someone else.
You will find it has nothing to do with our willpower. As we abide in Jesus, you will be surprised that you do not respond in the flesh as you once did. Joining up with Christian forums on the internet 20 years ago is the best place to grow, because you will be harassed, called names, and because of my new beliefs given to me by the Father of what the Word actually means, and not what false teachers claim, a heretic. Somehow, I don't react and can take the blows, giving them the other cheek as well, I guess.

I'm 78 and my baptism in the Holy Spirit was in 1977. Jesus was the Author of my faith cleansing me of all the sins unto death - the desire to break one of the moral commandments of God - and now as the Finisher of my faith has had all this time to mature the fruit of the Spirit.

Revelation 22:11 shows the Author's first faith as righteousness; and the Finisher's second faith as holiness. Romans 1:16-17 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

2 Peter 1:5-7 and 10-11 "But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love....10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."

Like you I have gifts also. Actually I've experienced all but two, but in the last couple years I asked for a new gift of opening my eyes by the Spirit, and received it immediately. I can now judge a sermon being given if it is anointed or not. I can see the anointing. Some are white. And others are bright blue. Amazing. Others have no anointing at all. Probably plagiarized. Only once did I see dark smoke coming out of the pastor's head with a tornado in front of the smoke. It was hard to let that pastor know what I saw. He was hiding a terrible sin and it was tearing him up. I haven't been back, but would like to soon to see if he has repented of whatever evil was in his heart.

That's a wonderful gift; I praise the name of Jesus for you. I counsel Christians still in the flesh. I thank you for responding with the encouragement that you have risen above those that have not conquered the flesh yet.

The key is abiding in Jesus in total trust and obedience. That's all. He does the rest.

@Rockerduck

I missed two. Praising Him. The world is full of beautiful things like rainbows, flowers, sunsets, Aurora Borialais, and even the majestic sound of thunder. I always take time to praise God and thank Him, being content in whatever situation you find yourself in knowing that even in hard times, He is my Love and Security.

I hope you pass these on to those you are encouraging.

I have found three (so far) publishing errors.
When someone says, “I’ve found publishing errors in the Bible,” we need to slow down and be very careful. There is a massive difference between inspired Scripture and the editorial decisions of printers.

The prophets and apostles did not write commas. They did not insert paragraph headings. They did not capitalize letters the way English does. Those things were added centuries later to help readers. So if there is a comma in Isaiah 9:6, that comma is not inspired. The text is inspired. “For unto us a child is born… and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” ~Isaiah 9:6. Whether someone prints “Wonderful Counsellor” together or separates them does not weaken the glory of Christ. The weight of the verse rests on the names themselves, not on punctuation.

Now regarding Galatians 5:17. The text says, “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh” ~Galatians 5:17. You must interpret Scripture with Scripture. In that same chapter Paul speaks of walking in the Spirit and being led by the Spirit ~Galatians 5:16,25. In Romans 8 he says, “If any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his” ~Romans 8:9. The contrast is not between your fallen human spirit and your flesh. It is between the flesh and the Holy Spirit of God dwelling in the believer. The power to overcome sin is not your mind. It is the Spirit of the living God.

And then John 17. Yes, publishers put headings. But headings are not the Word of God. The Word of God says, “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word” ~John 17:20. That includes every true believer who comes through the apostolic gospel. And when Jesus says, “My sheep hear my voice… and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand” ~John 10:27-28, He is not speaking only of the Twelve. He is speaking of His sheep. If you belong to Christ, that promise belongs to you.

Be very careful about narrowing the promises of God beyond what Scripture itself says. That is a dangerous thing.

As for 1 John, there is no contradiction. “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves” ~1 John 1:8. And yet, “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin” ~1 John 3:9. The apostle is not confused. The one born of God does not live in ongoing, habitual rebellion. Sin is no longer the pattern of his life. But when he does sin, “we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” ~1 John 2:1. That is not confusion. That is the gospel applied to sanctification.

We must tremble at the Word. We do not sit in judgment over it because of commas or headings. We go to the text itself, in its context, and we bow before it.

The problem in our day is not that the Bible is flawed. The problem is that men are careless interpreters. And careless interpretation produces careless doctrine. So let us handle the Word with fear and with reverence, comparing Scripture with Scripture, and refusing to build theology on editorial marks instead of on what God has actually said.

Positive meaning Christian. Negative meaning walking in darkness. The verses in 1 John 1 that have the word 'say' are not Christians, so is not about us.
Let’s clear the smoke out of the room. You are trying to defend holiness, but you are doing it by rewriting who John is talking to. That is dangerous ground.

John says, “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves” ~1 John 1:8. Who is the “we”? The same “we” in verse 7: “If we walk in the light… the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin” ~1 John 1:7. Are unbelieving Jews cleansed by the blood? No. John is speaking to the Christian community and including himself.

If you say verses 6, 8, and 10 are not about believers, then verse 7 is not either. You cannot slice the paragraph to protect your theology.

Now hear me plainly. A born again Christian is not a slave to sin. “Our old man is crucified with him” ~Romans 6:6. That is not poetry. That is reality. Sin is no longer king. You have a new heart. You have a new nature. You are not what you were.

But that does not mean the war is over. Paul says, “The flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh” ~Galatians 5:17. That is written to believers. Not pagans. Not Pharisees. Christians. There is a conflict. If you deny that, you either do not know your own heart, or you are calling Paul confused.

Romans 7 is not “mankind in general.” The unregenerate man does not cry, “I delight in the law of God after the inward man” ~Romans 7:22. The unregenerate mind is “enmity against God” ~Romans 8:7. Romans 7 shows a man who loves God’s law and hates his sin. That is not a Pharisee boasting. That is a regenerate man groaning.

And yet Paul does not stay there. He cries, “O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me?” ~Romans 7:24, and immediately answers, “I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord” ~Romans 7:25. Then he explodes into Romans 8 freedom. That is the Christian life. Warfare and victory. Groaning and glory.

You say a born again Christian does not sin willfully, only unintentionally. James says, “To him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin” ~James 4:17. That is not accidental. That is conscious failure. And James is writing to believers.

The issue is not whether Christians can sin. The issue is whether sin reigns. “Sin shall not have dominion over you” ~Romans 6:14. Dominion is broken. Presence remains. If you teach that sin’s presence is gone, you will create either hypocrites who pretend or broken souls who despair because they still see corruption in their hearts.

John balances it perfectly. “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin” ~1 John 3:9. That means he does not live in it as a practice. It is not his identity. But the same apostle says, “If any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father” ~1 John 2:1. Why write that if believers cannot sin?

Holiness is not proven by denying reality. It is proven by walking in the light. Confessing sin. Fighting the flesh. Depending on the Spirit. Hating what God hates. Loving what God loves.

The real danger is not that Christians think they will “always sin.” The real danger is thinking you have reached a place where you no longer need to tremble. “Let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall” ~1 Corinthians 10:12.

You want victory? Good. Preach Romans 6. Preach the cross. Preach the Spirit. But do not muzzle 1 John 1 to make it fit your system.

The gospel does not produce sinless pride. It produces humble, Spirit-empowered warfare until the day we see Him face to face.

That was my point. I'm not attacking the Word of God, but the man-made publisher's mistakes.
The telling point is the "flesh." Those in the flesh do NOT have the Spirit, only their own mind that knows the Ten Commandments. Pretty much every criminal in jail can quote them. As far as comparing Scripture with Scripture, Romans 7:14-25 shows Paul telling the same thing as Galatians 5:17 and they are about a person who knows the Law, but is still in the flesh and cannot walk in the Spirit because they have not been born again of the Spirit. So does Galatians 5:17, so it is not a born again Christian. You refer to Romans 8:9 yet do not recognize that a born again Christian is NOT IN THE FLESH. The flesh is the old man that was crucified (dead) in Romans 6:5-7. Therefore, the "S" is "s." Or do you believe like thousands of people in denominations who quote verses from Romans 7:14-25 out of context? If a "Christian" relates to those things in Galatians 5:19-21 and are a slave to any one of them, they will not inherit eternal life in the Kingdom of God. You can only walk in the Spirit once you actually have the Spirit. And are not in the flesh. There are thousands of church-goers who are not saved. I know. That was me for the first 30 years of my life in a legalistic denomination. Note Romans 7:5-6 where the flesh is in the past.

Some do not know the difference between our spirit and our soul. The two together are what must be born again of the Spirit. They are our nature. Galatians 5:17 and Romans 7:25 narrows the choice down to the spirit being the mind. Therefore, the soul is our heart/conscience where when born again of the Spirit the laws of God become part of us, so instead of our nature being in opposition to the law, our nature is now righteous.

People use the New King James Versions of the Bible where these headings are published. By not designating verses 24-26 of John 17 as only the apostles, it does a disservice to new believers. And my teaching on John 17, 6 and 10 was also on the key word, "give" where it is used in those last verses for only the apostles. There are false doctrines that could not have been created if western scholars and western church fathers knew eastern Semitic writing styles. You do not know that and believe a lie. Are you teaching this fallacy also? You should be more careful than to teach verses to the apostles and applying them to all who follow the words of the Apostles.
Hook, line and sinker! The original 1 John 3:9 does not have the word practice in it. When born again of the Spirit Jesus takes away the desire for lawlessness completely out of our nature, thus, we cannot COMMIT murder even once. You are spouting all the false doctrines of the Reformationists.

1 John 1:6, 8, and 10 all have the key word, "say" in them, and are not born again Christians. 1 John 1:9 cleanses us of ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS. So if you then agree and say you do not have sin you are NOT LYING. I would wager you have also bought the heresy that Christians still have a sin nature and will always sin while alive until we receive new bodies at the resurrection. Yep! Hook, line and sinker!

If you say verses 6, 8, and 10 are not about believers, then verse 7 is not either. You cannot slice the paragraph to protect your theology.
Your statement of reasoning, lets me know this is over your head. Your understanding is with a western mindset. But the apostles wrote in an eastern style that will definitely confuse your understanding if you don't read in context. Here is an eastern style: The key word is SAY which verse 7 does not have. Westerners only see personal present pronouns and forget the context. Those pronouns are common to the eastern style of synonym parallels. This chapter and chapter three are contrasts. The contrast here is light vs. dark starting with verse 5 to 10. I will italicize the verses on light.

5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

Tell me again why if we are cleansed of all unrighteousness and we agree, that is a lie? So how is it a lie if we say we have no sin if cleansed of all unrighteousness? 1 John 2:4 has the answer.

4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

But that does not mean the war is over. Paul says, “The flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh” ~Galatians 5:17.
If we are NOT in the flesh, then whose flesh is at war with their spirit? It is someone who has not been cleansed of all unrighteousness. First must come repentance and cleansing that allows the Holy Spirit to live within a clean vessel. Paul's use of the term "the flesh" is speaking of the sin nature. A born again Christian does not have a sin nature. So, it is an unbeliever's spirit that still is in "the flesh" and lusteth against their spirit/mind. Romans 7:25.
