I'm pretty old, and I have a lot rare books, of which many are primary sources, and not school history texts. There's still info out there if one knows where to look. The following sources I often recommend for helping to understand the political side of the movement towards the one-world beast system.

John Robison was a British naturalist, and British Mason. His work pulls from captured documents found on a dead Illuminati agent by the Bavarian police in the 1700's. The documents contain the plans of the Iluminati Order started by the orthodox Jew Adam Weishaupt who was professor of law at Ingolstadt University.
The Illuminati goals are the overthrow of all religion and governments of Europe, including the monarchs of Europe. Robison included excerpts of personal letters from high members of the Order written to each other. In one of them, Weishaupt had bragged that his Christian Degree has deceived a certain Christian divine (i.e., leader in the Christian Church). Weishaupt said he didn't know he was going to be the starter of a new religion because of his Christian Degree mockery.
Also outlined are initiate Degree structures, and the names for those Degrees of secret initiation. They followed the Masonry line on many of those, including the division between the lower membership of 'Lesser Mysteries', and the higher members of the "Greater Mysteries".
Documentation also includes writings about the principles of collectivism, which basically is the early offshoot of Communist philosophy. Included is the idea of Reading Societies to eventually get control of book editorial and publishing positions.
One of the truly conspiratorial matters is documentation on Weishaupt's infiltration of the Masonic Lodges on the European continent. John Robison, who was a British Mason, claimed Masonry originated in Britain, and had only 3 degrees. Weishaupt's Illuminati Order became the structure for higher and continued Degrees in Masonry on the European continent. Highest Degree in Masonry I've ever heard of is the 33rd Degree. That means at some point the infiltration of Weishaupt's Illuminati Order created 30 more Degrees in today's Masonic Lodges. The Illuminati Order is an Order available only to higher initiates in Masonry and in the Rosicrucian Order (AMORC). Don't ask me how I know that; it's just that they aren't as perfect as they think with trying to hide all their own literature.
The Rosicrucian Order (AMORC which means Ancient Mystical Order Rosae Crucis) also has another available Order one can join once in its higher initiate Degrees. It's called the Traditional Martinist Order, and originated in 1740 France, and was a high Degree in Masonry transmitted by a Martinez de Pasqually. It is Christian Mysticism and esoterica, and involves ceremonial magic and Kabbalistic magic. Thus its origins also include Jewish myticism of the Kabbalah system. Robison didn't include this info in his book, but the added Degrees to Masonry by the Illuminati Order suggests it.

Memoirs Illustrating the History of Jacobinism, 1797-98. By the Abbe Barruel. This is another book using the captured secret documents found by the Bavarian police by the Illuminati Order. archive.org also has a photocopy of the original book.
This work goes deeper into those involved in Masonry and the Illuminati behind the French Revolution with the goal to overthrow the Monarchs in Europe. Abbe Barruel was a Jesuit. But he didn't invent the documentation he covered, it was captured documentation from the Illuminati order and its associates, the Jacobins.
3. Tragedy and Hope, A History of the World in Our Time, by ex-Georgetown history professor Carrol Quigley.
The 1st edition was written by Quigley in 1966. His publisher destroyed the printing plates and Quigley had to sue his publisher to find out why. Quigley said his book must have said something the "establishment" Insiders didn't want known, so they had the publisher destroy the printing plates. There have been abridged reprints, so one looking to read it needs to be sure to find a 1st edition or copy of the 1st edition.
Quigley himself in the book admitted that he was an "establishment" insider, and was allowed to see their secret records for two years. What Quigley said he disagreed with them about was that their influence was an important influence upon American and western history that Quigley thought should be known, and that he himself had no problem with the movement, and had been close to it most of his life. Quigley admitted that this American "establishment" of world socialists often work with Communism and have no problem doing so.
I'd say the main secrets Quigley revealed that the "establishment" didn't want known was how the British Roundtable Group in Britain, founded by students of the South African gold/diamond magnate and British Socialist Cecil B. Rhodes, founded the Rhodes Scholarship program at Oxford University. Quigley revealed the Rhodes program is not merely about selecting world leaders for their high intelligence, but for their willingness to cooperate in their individual nations to pass legislation towards the move of a "one world government". That British Roundtable Group Quigley said founded an American branch of it called the Council On Foreign Relations (CFR). Thus there is... a major conspiracy that's been going on in America too, even before we were born. They used to have a public magazine supplied to every American public library called
Foreign Affairs, a hard read if you don't recognize their lingo.
It is no doubt such a group of world socialists have been behind the exposed attempts by an American shadow government trying to move the U.S. into an American Union like the E.U. The investigative journalist Jerome Corsi got secret documents released in the 1990's about it through the Freedom of Information Act. The shadow government already had whole departments funded and staffed to move the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and into an American Union with its own currency called the Amero. That is what the so-called Super-highway was about. The long-range strategy to do this comes from think-tanks like the Trilateral Commission, a group that meets in secret which the Rockfellers started, and chose ex-President Jimmy Carter and U.S. statesman Zbigniew Brzezinski to head it. I first heard of the organization in my college American history book about Jimmy Carter. My instructor said he didn't know anything about the Trilateral organization. My research discovered their main plan is for a tri-parte global order, i.e., the earth divided up into three main Unions, the European Union, an American Union, and a Pacific-Asia Union.

New Lies For Old (1984), by ex-KGB colonel Anatoliy Golitsyn.
Golitsyn defected to the U.S. in the 1960's. He went to the U.S. State Department and revealed the long-range disinformation strategy that the Soviet Communists had for taking over the United States. The U.S. State Dept. said they weren't interested. So Golitsyn asked if he could put his info in a book to the public. Golitsyn predicted, in 1984, that if is was time for the Soviet's final 3rd phase of their long-range disinformation strategy against the West, they might then allow the Berlin Wall to come down. The Berlin Wall came down in 1989, and the Soviets announced their Peristroika movement (democratization of Russia and its satellites).
Another hard read, but an eye opener that not all is well in Denmark (borrowing from Hamlet).
