The Gospel for today so why the confusion ?

While Paul denied in Romans 4:1-5 that we can earn our righteousness as the result of our works, he also affirmed in Romans 2:13 that only the doers of the Law of God will be declared righteous, so there is a reason why our righteousness requires us to choose to be a doer of it other than in order to earn it as the result, namely faith insofar as the faith by which we are declared righteous apart from works done to ear it as the result also upholds the Law of God (Romans 3:28-31). In other words, we become someone who has faith, someone who will be declared righteous, and someone who is a doer of the Law of God all at the same time and anyone who is not one of those is also not the others, but we do not become righteous as the result of our obedience to the Law of God.

I think in modern times belief has been so compromised and reimagined as being enough we have sinners proclaiming they believe while doing little to apply their faith in action.

The first greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart which should naturally lead to a person wanting to please God and be Christlike in loving others and helping them.

But some if not many don't love and commit to God with all their heart while still professing they believe. Paul mentions the fruits of the spirit which include kindness, goodness and self control. These qualities are behaviours that come out of Christs spirit.

In some ways they are the qualifier for which we can tell the difference between someone who professes belief but does not put it into action and those who take the belief to heart and produce good fruit. You cannot identify the good fruits of the spirit unless people actually display them through how they act.

Jesus saves us from our sin (Matthew 1:21) and sin is the transgression of the Law of God (1 John 3:4), so there is an intrinsic connection between our gift of salvation and our gift of getting to experience being a doer of the Law of God. Jesus graciously teaching us to experience being a doer of the Law of God is intrinsically the way that he is giving us his gift of saving us from not being a doer of it. Likewise, there is an intrinsic connection between our gift of righteousness and our gift of getting to experience being a doer of the righteous works in obedience to the Law of God. However, the word “by” does not adequately distinguish between what that connection is and is not. We are not saved by our works insofar as they are earning our salvation as the result, but we are saved by being a doer of the Law of God insofar as that is the way to embody the faith by which we are being saved. I agree with all these about Paul. I also like Romans 15:16: to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles. He gave me the priestly duty of proclaiming the gospel of God, so that the Gentiles might become an offering acceptable to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

Its amazing that Paul was a Pharisee and yet understood the Gentiles. As Christ began as a Jewish sect the gospel was going to be preached by a Jew intially and that was Paul who understood both groups. Also being a Roman citizen and persecutor of the Nazarene sect.

From memory though I think Peter recognised and preached to the Gentiles before he met Paul. Acts 10: 39-48. Specifically

47"Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he?" 48And he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay on for a few days.++++

Yes Paul was consistent and persistent with the same simple truth teaching. A witness testimony of what had been given to him directly from Christ. Just as it did to the other disiciples.

The same good news preached to all. In Pauls case to all nations. But I think the other 12 agreed and also spread the gospel to the Gentiles because the majority left Jerusalem to other areas and even Peter in the end.

Its interesting though Paul ended up coming back to Jerusalem to finish business and his life. Then taken back to Rome to be executed after appealing to Ceasar that he had done nothing wrong but tell the truth about Christ.

I agree. We cannot save ourselves through keeping the law or doing good works. You don't have to be a Christian to do that.

But this is different to once being saved and putting that faith into action.

It is the heart that is changed not good works. Good works is the outward behaviour of the heart. Better still the fruits of the heart. At the same time breaking Gods law and bad fruits is the measure of a corrupt heart or one that has not fully believed in the gospel and their heart is still holding on to the flesh.

Not sure about this one. Paul does point out sin in the church and the false teachings. He identifies the bad fruits of the spirit which are the works of the flesh. While identifying the fruits of ther spirit which are manifest in certain ways of being.

Though this is qualified by the gospel as the satan can use false measures of what is good and bad fruit. Some churches present bad fruit as good and good fruit as bad.

Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Which qualifies the good and bad fruit. As mentioned satan and the world can present good works as being Godly or good. But this is based on the worlds idea and self. Promoting self like the pharisees.

In some ways the good deeds of Christians should be hidden. Done to bring glory to God and thus putting ourselves in the background. Though I think the fruits of the spirit are the visible signs to all to identify what is of Christ and what is of the world.
