The Beatitudes - And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be...

Jesus Forbids Oaths
33 “Again you have heard that it was said to those of [
m]old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to the Lord.’ 34 But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God’s throne; 35 nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. 36 Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. 37

The Plot Against Paul
11 But the following night the Lord stood by him and said, [
b]“Be of good cheer, Paul; for as you have testified for Me in Jerusalem, so you must also bear witness at Rome.”
12
And when it was day, some of the Jews banded together and bound themselves under an oath, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul. 13 Now there were more than forty who had formed this conspiracy. 14 They came to the chief priests and elders, and said, “We have bound ourselves under a great oath that we will eat nothing until we have killed Paul. 15 Now you, therefore, together with the council, suggest to the commander that he be brought down to you [
c]tomorrow, as though you were going to make further inquiries concerning him; but we are ready to kill him before he comes near.”
16 So when Paul’s sister’s son heard of their ambush, he went and entered the barracks and told Paul. 17 Then Paul called one of the centurions to
him and said, “Take this young man to the commander, for he has something to tell him.” 18 So he took him and brought
him to the commander and said, “Paul the prisoner called me to
him and asked
me to bring this young man to you. He has something to say to you.”

Generally oaths are a bad thing to swear to, cause you do not know if you can fulfil your oath to God, and then when you fail, you prove yourself a liar to Him, and besides that, the saying, the devil is in the details' take it's tolls, cause he is sure to be involved, even if the purpose seems noble.
