I've been wanting to get rid of contacts for years and I'm finally ready to take action. I'm considering cataract surgery to correct my vision because the doctor told me at my age LASIK may not be the best option as I develop presbyopia. Has anyone had cataract or LASIK surgery? How has it turned out?

I'd appreciate hearing anyone's experiences.

Yes, I had cataracts removed. I had lenses put in for 32". I use glasses for longer vision or "readers" really close-up work (4-10")

Were you able to feel the lenses in your eyes? I'm worried that I'll be able to feel them - like getting sand in your eye. Is there some reason why you didn't get the multifocal lenses?

I had cataracts removed at a fairly young age. They developed from the solvents i used in my work, which is different because the cataracts form from inside rather than from outside. No, you do not feel the lenses at all.

The hardest thing for me was to suddenly see everything with a bluish tint. The cataracts make all a romantic yellowish or sepia tint and so real natural light made all appear cold blue - sort of like the difference between a regular lightbulb and LED light?

Until I had the 2nd one removed, one eye saw blue and one saw yellowish still. After the 2nd one, I was fine, but until then it was like sunglasses with one blue lens and one brown lens! Weird for an artist!

That's a shame. My old neighbor got cancer from working over some chemical vats all day.

I'm glad to hear that you don't feel them. My eye doctor used to call me the Princess and the Pea because I'm so sensitive. Did you get the multifocal lenses? I'm wondering if they shift focus the way they're supposed to.

That's strange. It's probably a good analogy about the different lightbulbs. I wonder if you noticed it more since you're an artist. My husband was a supervisor for many years and constantly had to be alert so that his men weren't slacking. Even now he picks things up that I miss. On the opposite end, I'm intuitive and pick up vibes more easily than him.

No, I have never even noticed the lenses at all. I could just finally see things clearer, even though I still had to have glasses for distance seeing. (anything more than five or six feet away.) The doctor told me that, in my case, I had to make a choice of either using glasses for close, or far. He did not give me a "multi" choice.

No, not multifocal. I did have multifocal glasses befo r my surgery, but after the surgery, I only need readers for up close. My far vision is good now.

Maybe the multifocal lens is something new. Did you ever have trouble wearing contact lenses? I'm wondering because I never liked the feel of contacts in my eyes and wondered if I'm just more sensitive than others and I would feel the lens implant with cataract surgery.

Oh, I never wore contacts. I had glasses with a multifocal lens.

I guess you could research if anyone has ever felt the new lens sewn into their eye...I've never heard of it. And it wasn't a thing that was discussed with me as a possibility by the doctor prior to surgery.

I've never tried contacts.

You can probably go back and get a multi focus lens implanted if you wanted.

Have had cataract surgery on both eyes. Got to the point where I could not see. My optician was delighted as he said my vision is nearly 20/20 now. I had to wear glasses all the time but now I only use them for reading.
