Was Israel in Egypt for four hundred years? Some people say that, basing it on this verse:
Genesis 15:13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
Notice that Egypt is not mentioned. Should we just assume that's what it means, or did the clock start ticking with the birth of Isaac?
