'Grace be with all them that love
our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. (in incorruption)
Amen. '

(Ephesians 6:24)

Hello there,

The word 'sincerity' in the verse above, has nothing to do with the English word, 'sincerity', which means 'honest, and without hypocrisy.' . It does not imply that love was to be genuine. It is quite another word altogether. It is Gr. Aphtharsia (G861), and means incorruptibility or uncorruptness. The word is always associated with immortality, and of that which cannot decay or become corrupt.

- The noun 'aphthatos', 'incorruptible',' immortal', is used of God Himself (Romans 1:23; 1 Timothy 1:17).
- The dead are to be raised 'aphtartos' (1 Corinthians 15:52).
- The crown of the child of God is 'aphthartos' (1 Corinthians 9:25).
- Our inheritance is 'aphthartos' (1 Peter 1:4).
- The new nature is 'aphtartos' (1 Peter 3:4).
- The seed from which it is produced (the Word of God) is 'aphthartos' (1 Peter 1:23).

* There can be no doubt therefore of it's meaning. Nor can there be any doubt as to it's application or reference in Ephesians 6:24. It refers not to our love, but to our Lord Jesus Christ as risen from the dead, and as living again in incorruption and immortality.

* We are not lovers of a dead Jesus, but of a risen Christ. We know Him 'no more after the flesh' (2 Corinthians 5:14-17).

* It is natural for us to think of ourselves, and of our love; but this prayer takes us out of ourselves and turns our thoughts to Christ, and the sphere in which our love is to be manifested. It teaches that the character of our love to Him is to be in the sphere in which we regard Him, as risen from the dead.

* The Epistle therefore ends as it began, with Him, and with Him as risen from the dead, and made 'the head over all things to the Church which is His Body' (Ephesians 1:19-21). To love Him in incorruptibility, is to love Him as He is, as our risen Head, not as He was 'in the days of His flesh'. To love Him in 'incorruptibility' is to acknowledge Him, as the risen Head of the body, and ourselves as members of that body. It is not the mere saying, 'I am of Christ' as did many of the Corinthian believers, but the acknowledging of the blessed fact that we are 'in Christ'. 'If any man be in Christ, he is a new creation; old things are passed away; behold all things ware become new', 'raised in incorruption', not merely as a 'living soul' but as, 'a life-giving spirit' (1 Corinthians 15:45); not merely as 'put to death as to his flesh' but as 'quickened' (or made alive) in the spiritual resurrection body (1 Peter 3:18).

Praise God!

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris

Addressing the OP.
I believe you have it a liitle bit but maybe, only maybe a little misdrected, for the Lord Jeus is genuine, and immortal, and incorruptible, and we be in his Love are the same toward one another.

maybe you might need to explan futher as to how you got to (in incorruption), for in Romans 1:23 "And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things."
here it is clear that God is uncorruptible, which is
G862 ἄφθαρτος aphthartos (af'-thar-tos) adj.
undecaying (in essence or continuance).
[from G1 (as a negative particle) and a derivative of G5351]
KJV: not (in-, un-)corruptible, immortal
Root(s): G1, G5351

but man is corruptible,
G5349 φθαρτός phthartos (fthar-tos') adj.
1. decayed.
2. (by implication) perishable.
[from G5351]
KJV: corruptible
Root(s): G5351

The word is always associated with immortality, and of that which cannot decay or become corrupt.
footnote: as in Jesus never saw decay nor corruption when He was buried.

All other flesh, including Lazarus who was raised after three days, suffer corruption/decay after death.

1 Corinthians 15:54-56 King James Version (KJV)

54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

Being Incorruptible means that you are not able to Sin or have any inclination to Sin, because Sin is Corruption. Given this meaning, are you, @charity, saying you are Incorruptible?

Sorry, but that interpretation is false. It speaks of the sincerity of the believer, or the one who professes Christ.

To love Him in incorruptibility, is to love Him as He is, as our risen Head, not as He was 'in the days of His flesh'.

Just a few thoughts here. Not to derail your thread.

Ephesians 2:3-5 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. [4] But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, [5] Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved)

But God who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith He loved us, EVEN when we were dead in sins...quickened us together with Christ.

What a change to 2 Corinthians 1:12 For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.

Rich in Mercy...But God, even when we were dead in sin, hath quickened us together with Christ. Ephesians 5:14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

1 John 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

Pure Gold is thus Incorruptible.
Other things too?

Zechariah 13:9 And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God.

1 Peter 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

Revelation 3:18-19 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. [19] As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

Job 23:10-16 But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. [11] My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined. [12] Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food. [13] But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth. [14] For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him. [15] Therefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him. [16] For God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me:

“I am afraid of God. For He makes my heart soft.”... “I will remove the stony heart and give you a heart of flesh”

“For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me” ...Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Job 14:14 If a man die, shall he live again ? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.

"Some faced jeers and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. 37 They were put to death by stoning;[e] they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated— 38 the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves and in holes in the ground.
39 These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, 40

since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect."

Hello @DPMartin,

I am sorry that you consider that I have posted erroneous information. Sorry also that you should feel provoked by my input. For I have no desire to do either. I do not find the OP on this thread, or my previous one, to be either erroneous or provocative.[ Genesis 4:6-7 What is it that lies (or reclines) at the door? ]

The Word of God has not been undermined or challenged by either of my posts, and neither has done damage to the text. I value God's Word, it is my joy, as is the Saviour that it proclaims. I am sorry that you have been negatively affected by either post.

Thank you
In Christ Jesus

Hello there,

Thank you to those who actually read what is said in the OP, and did not fall into the temptation to judge prematurely. It must be remembered that the KJV, which is loved by so many including myself, is a translation.

The Greek word 'Aphtharsia' translated sincerity, means incorruptibility or un-corruptness, and is not descriptive of our love for Christ, but of Christ Himself in resurrection glory. It is He whom we love - now risen and glorified and sat at God's right hand in the heavenlies.

Praise His Holy Name!

In Christ Jesus
our risen and glorified
Saviour, Lord and Head.

'If any man be in Christ, he is a new creation; old things are passed away; behold all things ware become new',

"New Creations" look and talk and behave totally different than the old man, eh!? As described in Ephesians , Corinthians Galatians, Philippians, et al.... (and of course in Acts) , very very visibly....
