if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

In James the word says he who speaks evil of his brother and judges his brother...the same speaks evil of the law and judges the law ...therefore if you are judge the law and speak evil of your brother ...you are not ‘a doer’ of the law but ‘a judge’ (I have several questions concerning this first being are we to be a judge or a doer?

James 4:10-12 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. [11] Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. [12] There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

Verse 12 stands out as the difference between men and fearing them who are able to destroy the body only or
Matthew 10:28-29 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. [29] Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

Hebrews 5:6-7 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. [7] Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;

“offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death” ...There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

Back to the question of: he who speaks evil of his brother is not a doer of the law but a judge.

Romans 2:11-13 For there is no respect of persons with God. [12] For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; [13] (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

Are we to be ‘hearers’ or ‘doers’?

James 1:22-25 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. [23] For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: [24] For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. [25] But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

2 Timothy 2:14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

Rom 3:26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
Rom 3:27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.
Rom 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
Rom 3:29 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:
Rom 3:30 Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.
Rom 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

what does that tell you

Addressing the OP. good topic.

I have two scriptures to address your topic. one each from the NT and the OT. concering the Law and our brothers and sisters. OT first.

Micah 6:8 "He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?"

NT, Romans 14:13 "Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way."

if we do these we will neither Judge the Law nor our Brothers.

Thank you. Asked and started this topic because it gets confusing when considering all the other passages on judgement. like where Paul spoke of the one having his father’s wife, or going to court and asked is there not any among you wise to judge this matter, or when one comes in and is judged of all and falls on his face and will worship God. Struggling with when I looked up speak no evil as in speaking no evil of your brother ...the question becomes who is the brother there in the word. You said to not throw a stumbling block in front of a brother ...that would assume they are blind and can’t see to not stumble over it.
Titus 3:1-3 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, [2] To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men. [3] For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

And concerning “rioting”
Or “riots” as a big headline today
1 Peter 4:2-4 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. [3] For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: [4] Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you :

Romans 13:12-14 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. [13] Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. [14] But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Question being ‘brother’ does that include the blind?

thanks for the reply, and I'll answer you with a short answer, "Righteous" Judgment vs "Condemnation" Judgment. this is what I was referring to in Micah 6:8 . "Righteous" Judgment is LOVE BASED. "Condemnation" Judgment is hate based, example, Proverbs 6:16 "These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:"
Proverbs 6:17 "A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,"
Proverbs 6:18 "An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,"
Proverbs 6:19 "A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren."

now let me give you a modern "Righteous" Judgment example. say you have a neighbor, and you haven't seen them is a couple days where as before you have seen them nearly every day. so you go and knock on their door to check if they are ok. no to be nosey, but for their welfare. because you care for or "LOVE" your neighbor. other words a "Righteous" Judgment fulfills God requirement to LOVE ye one another as Micah 6:8 states, "He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?" (to do justly) is to JUDGE RIGHT, or for Righteous. "Condemnation" leave that to God, but what about, a son having his father's wife or a Christian Judging by not going to court. follow our example, which is Jesus. listen to him concering christian going to court as in the Corithians scriptures. Matthew 5:38 "Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:"
Matthew 5:39 "But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also."
Matthew 5:40 "And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also."
Matthew 5:41 "And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain."

see how easy the answer is.

now about the the son with his father's wife in judgment or what to do. I'll give another short answer. verse 5 gives us the answer. 1 Corinthians 5:5 "To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus." other word this was a church as a whole matter, but an individual personal problem that each party involved must resolve. not to excommunicate, but have them to shame that leads unto repentance, (other words it should have been brought before the whole church, and the whole church should have went into prayer about it). for verse 2 gives us the reason, 1 Corinthians 5:2 "And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you."

again follow the example, Matthew 18:15 "Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother."
Matthew 18:16 "But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established."
Matthew 18:17 "And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican."

Hope this helped.
