Perhaps it would be good for you to tell us the time period that Jeremiah's Lamentations is applicable to.

What period of time is this book lamenting?

Good question, I'll try to give The Time Of Jeremiah' Lamentations from a King James Open Bible:

The Historical background of Lamentations can be found in "The Time of Jeremiah" The book was written soon after Jerusalem's destructions
Jeremiah 39; 52 at the beginning of the exile.

Nebuchadnezzar laid siege to Jerusalem from January 588 B.C. to July 586 B.C. It Fell July 19, and the city and temple were burned on August 15.

Jeremiah probably wrote these five elegies before he was taken captive to Egypt by his disobedient countrymen not long after the destruction
Jeremiah 43:1-7.

But did you or anyone search for this time in scripture?

However I did more search: Book of Lamentations - Wikipedia

The Time of Jeremiah Lamentations - Google Search

Thanks Walter and Debbie your attempt of discovering the time period that this Lament is applicable to. However, the lament is not for the Babylonian Exile period but for the destruction of Jerusalem and the scattering of Israel to the four compass point of the earth of all of Israel after 70 AD for a period of two ages. The answer is found in the Lament itself in the Hebrew text and hidden in the English translations by the so termed "Technical Translation" of “lə·ḏōr wā·ḏō·wr” as "many generation" which suggests an infinite period of time whereas, the period of time being spoken about is "for an age plus an age" which defines a period of two ages where the Lord has turned His back on the Nation of Israel.

Exodus 20:4-6 contains the first warning from God that if they continue their idolatrous worship during the first two ages of their existence from the birth of Isaac until the Birth of Christ, that the iniquity of the sins of their idolatry would be visited on them for a further two ages of their existence until they remember God and His Covenantal Promises to Israel and gathers them to Himself once more. Isaiah 34 also speaks of this time and Isaiah 61:4 tells us that they will rebuilt after a period of two ages (“dō·wr wā·ḏō·wr”) what had become desolated after they have been restored when they return to the covenantal relationship they had at MT Sinai, which they rejected while Moses was up on the mountain talking with God for a period of 40 days, to once again resume their role in the Salvation Harvest during the Millennium Age

Jeremiah Book of Lamentations covers the period of the visitation of their idolatrous iniquities upon them for a period of two ages which is going to end in our near future, shortly after Satan goes away to the Bottomless pit, (Luke 19:12). The sign of the beginning of Israel's restoration is the Armageddon event when God will judge all the nations of the earth for trampling His Sanctuary and earthly Host for a period of 2,300 years.

The Book of Lamentations has nothing to do with lamenting the time of 70 years spent in exile in Babylon as many commentators suggest. Jeremiah is lamenting that all of Israel must experience this period of two ages of walking contrary to God.

Shalom.

Good to remember that the author of Lamentations also wrote the prophecy of Jeremiah.

Thanks for the link.

However, what I posted above is my understanding of this lament. The lament was not over the time of the Babylonian exile, but rather a future time when the Iniquities of the Israelite nation during the first two ages of their existence would be visited upon the third and the fourth ages of the existence of Israel while disbursed and scattered throughout the whole earth. Daniel spoke about the need for Jerusalem and the Temple practices needed to be reformed and that God had allotted 490 yearly sin sacrifices to cover their sin, but that during that time they had to stop their practices of adulterous worship, even within the confines of the Temple and fully repent for what they were doing.

Christ even offered them His light yoke instead of the heavy yoke of the visitation of their iniquities because they had not repented nor stopped their idolatrous practices which they attempted to hide from the face of the Lord. The religious leader in Christ's day chose to continue their idolatrous worship instead.

The Lament was for a future time nearly 600 years into the future from when it was written when the Roman empire would level the temple and put a stop to the offering up of sacrifices, particularly the Sin Sacrifices for the Nation and for the individual. The destruction that Jeremiah recorded in the Book of Lamentations certainly also happened when the Roman Empire came up against the city of Jerusalem just as it had happened when Babylon came up against Jerusalem.

The period of time that God would turn his back on Israel was for two ages, and the end would be at the same time when the Trampling of His Sanctuary at Jerusalem and His earthly Hosts.

Jeremiah gives a clue as in chapter 5 as to when Israel's ordeal would be over. The fullness in time of the heathen Gentiles trampling the Sanctuary of God is not yet completed and they will attempt one last foray against Jerusalem and the Israelites in our near future when the nations will assemble at Armageddon where the Lord will Judge them.

I did not get this sense from the commentary that you provided the link to.

Shalom
