Would You Ever Give Coal to Your Child/Children?

A sequel thread to Santa Claus. I realize that I might receive a lot of hate for this, but if I had a very naughty and disobedient child I might give them coal,.. but I would also have "Santa" leave them a note explaining how they can earn back their toys as I'm not that heartless. :) (Or I might give it to them as a joke or candy coal. )

I convinced my nephew to ask Santa for coal for Christmas. That threw his dad for a loop.

My son was going to send some coal to my managers at work a few years ago, they decided to make us buy our own Christmas gift from them ( long story ) So he was going to buy tins of chocolate to all the teams and place a tin of coal there for the managers , all anonymously of course !!
It would have been quite funny, but I was pleased when he didn’t go through with it.
They have us a nice bonus this year for working through the lockdowns x
I don’t think I ever considered giving coal to my children, but often use to threaten to take their presents away when they were naughty. Rita x

There's something about watching children meet Santa...

Many of them are having emotional crisis of meeting THE ULTIMATE AUTHORITY...and it scares the devil right out of them. They instantly start crying or don't want to get anywhere near him.

Getting coal is simply just an example of getting results of your behavior.

I put you on ignore April Rose because you 'warned' me and I didn't think that was nice. I have never been a Grinch, which I believe is a character who stole Christmas but I've never seen the film, so I'm hoping you don't really mean that.

It originates from a time frame when Newcastle would have been producing a lot of coal itself x

Interesting question- do I agree with the whole sentiment behind the words, no.
However it has an emotional attachment to my parents, so I don’t tend to ‘ hear ‘ the words but I think of both of them. It was a song from their era. My dad is a big Frank Sinatra fan. Rita

I don't really like the song, either, but it's kind of memorable, anyhow...
