Bethlehem Judaea c. 1900 much as it appeared at the time of Jesus. Photograph is taken from the northwest across the Shepherd's Field where the flocks and herds of animals were kept that were destined for sacrifice in Jerusalem 5 miles north. These flocks and herds were in the fields year round.
