No, Christians didn’t adopt the immortal soul from the Greeks

Two questions, one, where did the idea of an immortal soul come from. Did, not start with Pagans? This idea came into being before Israel existed. My second question is, where in Scripture would we find this idea being taught as fact?

    IS THERE ONLY WATER BAPTISM?

I gave you Scripture that literally states that baptism saves. It's not, in my eyes. The idea of "works salvation" is just something made up in an attempt to prove the erroneous Faith Alone doctrine.

    IS THERE ONLY WATER BAPTISM?

I expect that you would move on. What you're claiming is indefensible. Moving on is the other option.

    IS THERE ONLY WATER BAPTISM?

That was kind of a long way to know really say anything. Does water save? Let's ask Peter. 18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: 19 By which also he went and preached...

    IS THERE ONLY WATER BAPTISM?

The falling on of the Holy Spirit refers to the receiving of the gifts. When Peter says, "And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning." He is referring to Pentecost when they spoke in tongues. However, they had received the Holy Spirit prior to this. 20 And...

    IS THERE ONLY WATER BAPTISM?

Actually, you haven't addressed it. Yes, Paul may have had his mind made up, but he also was taught by Jesus. The statement shows the flaw in the reasoning. You said, "there is far more scripture salvation by grace through faith.. " As I pointed out, we need to look at all of the passages not...

    IS THERE ONLY WATER BAPTISM?

That's an interesting reply. You said my mind is made up, yet you have not addressed a single point I've made, rather you've dismissed them. That would indicate that it is "your" mind that is made up, and no amount of Scriptural evidence is going to change that.

    IS THERE ONLY WATER BAPTISM?

Yeah, baptism isn't mentioned. Taking one or two verses and ignoring the rest is not sound exegesis. People could make up almost any doctrine doing that. Sound exegesis requires that we look at every single passage in the New Testament that pertains to salvation. I mean if we just take a passage...

    IS THERE ONLY WATER BAPTISM?

18 Because also Christ once for sin did suffer—righteous for unrighteous—that he might lead us to God, having been put to death indeed, in the flesh, and having been made alive in the spirit, 19in which also to the spirits in prison having gone he did preach, 20who sometime disbelieved...

    IS THERE ONLY WATER BAPTISM?

There's a problem with that. Baptism with the Spirit was not a thing at this time. So, no one hearing His words would understand Him to mean anything other than water.

    IS THERE ONLY WATER BAPTISM?

    Peter said it does.

    IS THERE ONLY WATER BAPTISM?

Taking passages to the exclusion of others doesn't prove the point. How is one saved if their sins are not forgiven?
  13. Butch5

    IS THERE ONLY WATER BAPTISM?

Does it? What's to say the two are not simultaneous? What to say that one doesn't take place without the other?

    Doctrine of Predestination

Calvin was a Stoic or a Fatalist. As such it influenced his writings. He was also strongly influence by Augustine who was a Neoplatonist. His teachings on Predestination are based on these flawed assumptions. He takes Scripture out of context, as do those who follow his teachings. The modern...
