Do you inspire people to be Christian? When I left Christianity, it was not someone reading bible verses at me that brought me back. I knew a used car salesman when I saw one.

It was just the way a few people were without saying anything. Two of the nicest instructors at my gym were the main ones. Both were women in their 20’s. They taught a great cardio class. But there was something about them. I meet a lot of nice people at the gym, but there was something about them, something very spiritual. They were always very kind. It is hard to describe. I did not even know they were Christian. I followed them on Facebook like most of the people I know from the gym.

One day I saw one post a comment to a local Church. I looked into it and seen both were members of the small church. That opened the doorway for me to think of accepting Jesus again. Or planted the seed again.

I computerized all the convents here in the 90s. I worked with the sisters a lot. They were always people I had the highest respect for. Not by what they said, but by their actions. Not all were perfect but most were my idea of a good Christian. They also made a great cup of tea.

Your actions speak louder than words.

Is inspiring people to be Christians the same thing as inspiring people to seek Jesus Christ?
I am going to say yes. But I think at different levels. You can follow the teaching of Jesus as a teacher. But to accept he is the "anointed one" or Christ (or Son of God"). It puts his teaching on a higher level. Jesus is a very interesting person.

Humm - I would say it should be yes, but I wonder if you and I are meaning the same thing when we think of following the teaching of Jesus as a teacher? Jesus said His sheep hear His voice and that He leads them with His voice. So when you say "His teachings" do you mean what He was talking to you about "Today", as in hearing Him speak to you and teach you things "Today" or are you thinking that He is in some far off place called heaven in which He will come back from some day so following Him Today means going by your understanding of the Bible?

If that is the case it would explain why someone might think we are trying to lead people to Christianity (as a religion) as opposed to leading them to Jesus Christ to hear from Him personally as their teacher.

He is an interesting person, and we need to get to know Him personally! Which mean hearing from Him personally and not just reading the scriptures and going to church as a person inspired to be a Christian might be thinking. He once gave me a parable about two towns.

Once upon a time there was a town called Two because it had two people in the town. Now two miles away there was another town, called Too because it too had two people in the town. Now the two judges in the land came to Two and went to Too too because they wanted to judge whether Two or Too should be required to change their name. The judges decided to hold court at two in Too in two days.

So, in two days the two judges with the two of Two travel the two miles to Too. So at two in Too the two judges and the two of Too and the two of Two too held the hearing,

Of course it didn’t take but two minutes to decide that since neither of the two towns had the same name there was nothing that could be done. So at two after two both the two of Too and the two of Two hugged the two judges because the two of Too and the two of Two loved the names of Two and Too too.

Do you understand the meaning of the parable?

There are two towns that have the name 'Christian'. In one town a person lives with Jesus Christ personally. They walk together and they talk together and they develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ so the person in that town follows Jesus Christ. So a person in that town inspires people to follow Jesus Christ.

And not far away there is another town named "Christian" where the person walks with religion and talks with religion and they follow the Christian traditions so they inspire others to be Christians. Now we might and do like the fact that whether we follow the Christian religion or actually follow Jesus Christ, we call both those towns Christian. Yet there is a problem, isn't there? It is written that whoever believe in Him (as opposed to the Christian religion) has eternal life. So inspiring people to be Christians is not what we are actually doing. We are inspiring people to get to know Jesus Christ personally.

We are saved by Grace _ from God _ not by works of our own or works of others. God does work through others, so His love flows through them. This is what I hope you mean. Actions do speak louder than words, although faith comes by the Word, so the Word has to be there.
An evangelist once told me how they do it. They go into an foreign country and seek out the people who are in need. They help them with their needs, love them. It could be just building wells for water or giving them food, medical assistance, etc. They do this for many months or years, however long it takes to get the job done. They don't proselytize, storm them with scriptures from the start. They wait until the people (who meanwhile wonder why they are helping), finally ask them, Why are you doing this? Then they hit them with the gospel and tell them about Jesus. That is much more effective then standing on the street corner on top of a box and preaching at people with a self righteous attitude and telling them that they are going to burn in Hell unless they repent.
Faith comes by the Word, but I think an evangelist (one who has that gift - Eph. 4:11) has to finesse their way into the person's heart. Knock on the door and see if they are willing to open it. Although it isn't a total waste of time to informally speak God's Word to strangers, because that is effective too, it is more effective to deliver the message with a side portion of love. Evangelists like Greg Laurie, Rhinhart Buntke or Billy Graham were effective with massive crowds because those people went to see them willingly, their doors were open and the Holy Spirit was present.
God's grace comes to us in a myriad of ways. 2.65 billion Christians, each having their own unique testimony, came to know Christ. Many were brought up with Christian parents. Many, like my parents, resist and rebel against God until their final moments on earth when they are weak and unable to resist anymore and afraid of what comes next.
Some of those scriptures spoken in what seems to be an ackward moment as if going out to deaf ears, (are seeds that are planted), sprout at different times in a person's life.
Evangelical churches have this unbridled, sometimes desperate and reckless call to insist that everyone goes out there and evangelizes. But some are met with zero results. WHY? They are not spiritually gifted in that area and so don't do the job well. I do not have that gift. The workers in that arena are few but God's will is getting accomplished 100%.
