I've been searching for Christians, to ask for deliverance from addiction for years.
I know there's a difference between 'self control' and 'being set free', because I'd been delivered from addictions in the past.
A young man at my church, is the real thing.
I waited, to get to know him, before diving in.

There is wisdom in your waiting to get to know a person before committing to trusting them. This is called building relationships with others in Christ.
God's desire is for all people to send down their roots into His fertile soil where he has planted us when he scattered the seed that we germinated from.
Developing a relationship with God and drawing from Him your nourishment and allowing God to water us with His Blessing is important. Finding other likeminded people in Christ is also important in that together we can all grow into the personhood that God has intended all of mankind too become in Him.
Allowing God to draw us into His loving embrace and to draw us into His purposes for our respective lives develops us and strengthens us as we grow more and more into His likeness.
Keep reading and listening to His word to learn how to maintain our respective relationship with God. We do not have to be "perfect" to be acceptable to God, but we do have to be honest with ourselves and God as we chose daily to live in harmony with Him.
