I believe there are two definitions of the word "heaven."

I believe the heaven Jesus spoke of is the peace of mind we get when we repent of our sin (Matthew 4:17).

But we humans think of heaven as the "place" we go after we die.
I guess that explains where my pets went after I repented. ???

When I get to heaven, I'll have quite a mess to clean up. - LOL

We don't need to worry about what eternity will be like or that it'll be boring. We know that God is good. Every good and perfect gift comes from Him.

1 Corinthians 2:9
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

Colossians 3:1-4
1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Colossians

Amen to that!

But no donuts? How can Heaven be Heaven without donuts?

I saw that someone commented on this old thread and it made me think, I forgot to mention that not only are donuts barely even food, but the fruit we have here and now is barely even food compared to the fruit you're going to see, smell, touch, and taste in the New Jerusalem on the New Earth!

First of all, the stuff is huge because it's designed for people twice our height (like Adam), but don't worry, because we'll eventually grow up enough to eat the stuff with one hand. Secondly, the colors and aromas will be unlike anything you've ever imagined and, lastly, you'll need a glorified, incorruptible body (no problem there) to experience the flavors that will make the delicacies we cherish here and now taste like store-brand dog food by comparison.

Don't ask me how I know all this stuff, or I might tell you. ;-)

Amen ! I am trying to make it a habit now of always looking to find the other scripture referred to , "as it is written " , so I look for what Paul was quoting . The prophet Isaiah .

Isaiah 64:4 Context

1Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence, 2As when the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence! 3When thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains flowed down at thy presence. 4For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him. 5Thou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou art wroth; for we have sinned: in those is continuance, and we shall be saved. 6But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. 7And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.

There shall be something, at least I faithfully believe so, what it looks like fully could never tell you. There is eating and drinking in the Kingdom to come after this life supposedly.

Revelation 22:1-2 -And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. 2 In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

No disrespect intended, but, this implies no more football. Is Heaven a place where everyone just stands around eating fruit and praising God for eternity? Praising God is a wonderfulI thing, but I would think that, even God, would tire of that after a few thousand or million years. I wonder what, if any, temporal activities might be replicated in Heaven. Will we have modern homes with ovens and dishwashers or return to the "Garden of Eden" type of environment? I believe that we will see Jesus and reunite with our loved ones. I hope my dogs also get to show up. How do you envision Heaven? The Scriptures don't have alot to say about it.
Aside from the descriptions given for the New Jerusalem ( Rev. 21), I believe heaven is like a perfect earth. We see mountains, valleys, rivers, grass, flowers, animals, etc, ...beauty. But when we look close, we see flaws, defects, imperfections. We look in the mirror and see an imperfect person.
Heaven is perfect. When we look close at anything, we will see perfection.
God created the earth, botanicles, animals and man in only six days. Jesus said, "I go to prepare a place for you ..." and He has been spending much more time on that project since He left.
God would not create a place that would be so foreign and different.
We will receive new perfect eternal bodies. Imagine the perfect you. No defects, no illnesses, no obesity ( even if there are donuts). When we get there, we will recognize our loved ones who past on before us. Whatever good in them that we knew, they will have apart from the fleshly, sinful part.
God will restore all things as He intended - to be perfect. I am also hoping my dog and previous ones will be restored.
If you spent a lifetime as a musician, loving music, creating it, why would God create a heaven without musical instruments and ability to play them?Wouldn 't you feel deprived, an emptiness within and without purpose? God would not do that. The New music you create will be much more fitting than anything you ever played.
Football may be quite a different game up there. No more pain in heaven, different rules. No ref needed because everyone plays fair. Here we have selfish fleshly desires to win, defeat and conquer the enemy. You would not have that disposition and therfore in sports, there would be no losers, everyone would enjoy without a desire to win or defeat. And the smashing bodies together would not be desirable - so quite a different game, but satisfying and fun.
So just imagine earth without evil, sin, pain, suffering and all its imperfections. God has put that yearning in us, for a perfect world, fair and just, filled with love.
Our talents that God initially gave us ( that some have not fully realized) will be fully realized. And each one of us will thoroughly enjoy every moment, be productive ...and every good desire in our hearts will be completely satisfied.
If the desires of your heart are hiking in the mountains, swimming, skiing...well God prepared your mansion in that perfect environment. Someone else loves Tahiti, desires that environment, they will have that. But we will also not be limited to our present desires, all will be available for us to enjoy. Abilities to travel great distances with the quickness of a thought, like Jesus did or angels, will be given. I imagine many billions of souls all living the perfect life forever with God. Since God is omnipresent, know that we will not need to make an appointment to see Him behind a long waiting line. Jesus could spend time with us as well as a million of others. Hard to imagine physically, but we do believe He is present when two or more pray together. So He is present everywhere now and will be in heaven. God has this infinite ability to be with all of us.

Your understanding is too limited by the experiences that you have had.

Just like none of the prophets could imagine internet discussion forums or even television YOU have zero chance of understanding Heaven. You have nothing to base your ideas upon.

Football and donuts, as fun and as good as those things are, are going to be rather mundane and simplistic by comparison to what we can do and experience in Heaven.

Heaven is heaven because it is where God is. He makes heaven, heavenly. And so, if our view of God is small and weak, our interest in being with Him forever in heaven will seem tedious and uninteresting. If we have a life as a follower of Christ now that requires a lot of add-ons to make "walking with God" engaging and fun, we're sure to want the same thing in heaven, too. God isn't enough here so He can't possibly be enough there, either.

When, though, one's understanding of God is closer to the Truth of who He is, when one has a deeper, fuller view of God, the prospect of an eternity absorbed entirely with Him is thrilling and full of wonder and expectation. If we never again see a dishwasher or doughnut, a foot-long hotdog or a football game, we don't care because, in gaining a fuller understanding of our Maker, we gain an understanding of how utterly trivial and tiny are the things that make us so comfortable and happy now.

So, don't wish for this present world in heaven, but for a greater view, a greater understanding, of God.

Psalm 73:24-26
24 With Your counsel You will guide me, And afterward receive me to glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Anybody can bang on a drum - lol.

Besides, if we're doing that, I'm calling the Adrian Belew spot (even though I can't play a lick).

There was a band called "13th Floor Elevators."

They made a documentary about the lead guy—Rocky What's-his-name (Erikson?). He went off the rails, I think.

In the World to Come, a Krispy Kreme lemon-filled glazed donut will be nutritious. Hey, if God can redeem me and make me righteous and holy, redeeming a Krispy Kreme donut and making it healthy would be child's play.

Hey I'm particularly fond of the glazed, chocolate-frosted ones, when they're nice and fresh, in a way that I'm pretty sure would qualify as sinful, if I could get near any.

Fortunately, I don't live near any fresh-made outlets these days, so I'm safe for now (I won't eat the 2-hour-old ones).

In any case, I'm hoping there won't be any in Heaven because I don't want to be uninvited due to risk of starting another rebellion.

I'm very serious about this. :psml

It just a wonderment to be near God. Despite everything else, don't you suppose? To know God is Eternal life, said Yeshua.

John 17:3 And this is life eternal: that they might know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent.

I'm just gonna sit in a corner quietly and eat my date & almond carob bars—after I eat all my vegetables. :Broadly:

I had an appointment with dental surgeon whose office was right next to a freshly made donut shop. The chocolate was still dripping off the donut.

I may have to go back. For the donuts, not for the molar extraction.
