It has always puzzled me when I see the hurt in the eyes of the Christian who is offended because of something I've said about their belief in God. If you assume it's because I've said something cruel to hurt them on purpose then you are mistaken. That's not to say I've never gone on the attack, but for the most part they will be offended and hurt no matter what I say. There seems to be no correct discourse they'd be happier to hear than absolute acceptance and submission to their beliefs. But it's not that they are hurt and offended themselves that actually puzzles me, it's how they will claim and package their offended sensibility off as "My God is offended"

How can a perfect immortal all powerful God who knows everything ahead of everything ever be offended? How exactly How can anything hurt a real God? It makes no sense. I can accept that a God could grieve, like a parent grieving for a child who is destroying themselves. But the experience of grief is not the same as being hurt and offended about something that you know is wrong. Those people will take a hardline stance of thinking they need to protect their God from any perceive threat against their belief. But that is a serious problem with them and how they react, not that a real God needs to defend itself. God can not be harmed by anything because it is absolutely indestructible and permanent. So what would a God need to be defending itself for exactly?

I’m not offended or hurt by what you say. As for God, I’m sure that somewhere along the way you’ve read Psalm 37.

Thank you for your post and questions.

It is clear from scripture that if you deliberately hurt another person, for your own selfish reasons, God will be offended. Or, if you are able to help the needy of your own volition, but choose to neither share nor care, God will be offended. (There are other examples if you are interested.) In other words, God has given all of us expectations of how we should treat each other, and He will be offended, disappointed, angry, etc. if we choose selfish desires and any means that callously or deliberately hurt others to obtain them.

Hope this helps with your understanding. If not clear, let’s discuss.

Blessings

Yes the God we read in the Bible is offended in certain ways which people then believe have an equal right to be offended. However that is only if you believe in that particular God in the Bible. I wasn't making my argument about the God in Bible being offended.

Thank you for your reply, which clarifies the discussion.

Christians will be offended if God is slandered or mocked. Is that so different from defending another person from slander, lies, etc.? Is that so different from defending one’s beliefs from lies, etc.? If you are fighting for justice, and that action undermines the perverse power of an individual, that person may stoop to all kinds of misinformation to preserve power.

Blessings.

Yes. Yes it is very different. Do I need to explain why?

Can you do it without dropping an F bomb on us?
F no... he he he. It's very different because it's a God. When does God need protecting? That is kinda what you're saying here. Although I do agree you should stand up for a human being who is being mistreated. But I've gotta say that I'm am over sure about a God not needing anyone to stand up for it.

Thanks for the reply.

You are correct that God does not need protecting. If it sounds like Christians are protecting Him, that is an unfortunate anthropomorphism. Again, as I explained previously, when the Christian message is being slandered deliberately, Christians try their best to counter falsehoods, and will enlist the help of God.

Peace.
