Do you really think that we have control over the Holy Spirit? That if we just hit on the right formula, we can all speak in and interpret tongues, prophesy, heal the sick, discern wisdom...?

The πνεῦμα blows where it wishes....

I'm going to have to say that I'm skeptical of that, though I recognize the famine in this land for the Holy Spirit. Maybe that's just a deficiency in my own faith. Or maybe that's just me exercising discernment.

Christ through Paul teaches that once we believe the Gospel we are sealed with the HS
Gal 1:11-12, 1 Cor 15:1-4, Eph 1:13, Eph 4:30
Do you reject the teachings of Christ ?

Then this thread is unnecessary. Or are you looking for something more from the Holy Spirit?
******Then this thread is unnecessary*****
Tell that to the those who refuse to accept that 1 Cor 15:1-4, Eph 1:13 is how believers 'today' receive the HS.
****Or are you looking for something more from the Holy Spirit?****
There's more ? Tell us what you know :gd

Peter, 4 steps are required in early Acts, repent, be baptized, pray & lay hands.
Acts 2
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 8:
15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
Yet Paul teaches only 1 step, hear & believe the Gospel
Eph 1:13, Gospel 1 Cor 15:1-4
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
And the way today is ?
Like so many today, you are looking for a formula, a technique or method. Such things box God into the cage of our own understanding and are rooted in the tree of knowledge.

Here we see the Holy Spirit falling without prayer, the laying on of hands or baptism. All they did was hear the gospel.

Ac 10:44
While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

God isn't imprisoned by a certain method, He is free to do as he chooses

So you reject 1 Cor 15:1-4, Eph 1:13, Eph 4:30 as the way to receive the HS today ?
Peter teaches how believers today are saved & sealed with the HS ? Really ?
Looks like he agreed with Christ that that role was given to Paul -- Acts 9:15, Gal 2:7-9
But since you're so intent on being saved by the teachings of Peter, how are you going with Acts 2:44-45 ? :)

I didn't "reject" anything. To suggest that shows how limited your understanding is.

The errant heresy of "two gospels" has blinded your eyes and prevents you from seeing the truth. There is ONE gospel and both Peter and Paul preached it. The people who were saved in Acts 10 were gentiles...not jews.

Paul - Gal 1:11-12, 1 Cor 15:1-4, Eph 1:13, Eph 4:30 is the same Gospel as Peter 2:38-46, Acts 8:15:17 ?
Who's blind SW ?

Why do you ignore Peter's gospel that he preached to gentiles in Acts 10?

Ac 10:43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

The same message Jesus taught in John 3

Jn 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

There is ONE gospel. Anyone adding another one is accursed:

Gal 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

There is only ONE SAVING Gospel >>>>TODAY<<<<
As taught by ONLY Paul Gal 1:11-12, 1 Cor 15:1-4, Eph 1:13, Eph 4;30 and NOT by Peter >>Acts 2:38-46, Acts 8:15-17.

We have a mighty powerful God who sees the heart of those He choses to be saved in Christ Jesus. Every salvation experience is individual to the person receiving the Holy Spirit. Its not one way and that's it. Its called a testimony. Everyone has a testimony of how God saved them. Among the Jewish people, the Apostles laid hands to receive the Holy Spirit also, because of the promise to the Jews first, as well as the Holy Spirit fell on the hearing of the Word. Today, the conviction of the Holy Spirit and the calling of God are more common, but the majority of Christians pray to receive salvation at home and then go to a church.

Your 1 Corinthians 15 quote should go through verse 8, to keep the context:

3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. 6 After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8 and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

Pretty much all Christian churches and denominations affirm the historical facts of Christ's death and resurrection. We've got Good Friday and Easter coming up on the calendar. But I was talking of the works of the Holy Spirit....

Galatians 1:9 said:
Gal 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
Mark 1:14-15 14 Now after John was taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent and believe in the gospel.”

1 Corinthians 12:3 3 Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.

Jesus preached a different "gospel", therefore, Paul says let Jesus be accursed. No man speaking by the Spirit of God says "Jesus be cursed", therefore, Paul was not speaking by the Spirit of God. In conclusion, at the very least, Galatians 1:9 is not inspired, perhaps all of Galatians is not inspired, and maybe all of Paul's epistles should be expunged from the Bible, Quod Erat Demonstrandum.

After praying about it... I think the purpose of a formula isn't to manipulate God into doing what we want. Instead, I think it is God's methodology for getting our hearts in the proper posture and attitude. There are lots of ways God can get our hearts in the right posture.

What I'm seeing in this thread doesn't look (to me) like the attitude God is looking for.

Why would there be any difference today as opposed to Jesus time?
Read Acts 2:38-46, Acts 8:15-17
What does Peter teach is required to receive the HS ?
Repent, water baptize, pray by others, lay hands
Read 1 Cor 15:1-4, Eph 1:13
What does Paul teach is required to receive the HS ?
BELEIVE that Gospel, no lay hands, no pray by others, no lay hands
**
See the difference ?
Who taught Peter ? Christ
Who taught Paul that ? Christ >>> Gal 1:11-12
Why the difference ? We're in a different 'age' than early Acts :)

:IDK:interesting. How then do we know what all else was only for that age?

Your quote of " Read 1 Cor 15:1-4 "however, does not speak of being baptized in the Holy Spirit at all, it just connects the "gospel" to being "saved".

Your quote of Ephesians 1:13 Also does not say anything about being baptized in The Holy Spirit, i speaks of how we become "saved" by "believing" and automatically are "sealed" by The Holy Spirit.

I can't find where Paul even taught the baptism of the Holy Spirit was a second baptism. This always did make me wonder.

Thank you for your reply!

The Apostle Peter right after receiving the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, started preaching Johns baptism of repentance. That's all he knew. In Acts 10:44-48, Peter found out differently and learned he was first to bring the Holy Spirit to Gentiles.

Can you show where today Scripture teaches that Peter or the 12 are Apostle to believers referred to in :- Gal 3:28, 1 Cor 12:13, Col 3:11, Gal 6:15 ?
Acts is TRANSISTIONARY, be careful how you use it :)

Nancy >>>""I can't find where Paul even taught the baptism of the Holy Spirit was a second baptism.""
Acts 19:1-7 ?
At that time the 1 Cor 15:1-4, Eph 1:13, Gal 2:2, Gal 2:6 Gospel taught ONLY to Paul by Christ Gal 1:11-12 was not yet widely? known ?
That Gospel teaches how to be SEALED with the HS >> Belief only, not lay hands, pray, water baptize as in Acts 2:38, Acts 8:15-17 by Peter.
Nancy>>>"""How then do we know what all else was only for that age?"""
Are you referred to in Gal 3:28, 1 Cor 12:13, Col 3:11, Gal 6:15, if so then who is your Apostle, Peter/12 or Paul ?
When you work that out you'll know who Christ selected to teach you Salvation.
Hint Acts 9:15, Rom 11:13, Rom 15:16, Gal 2:7-9 :)

Its a moot point. Its the Holy Spirit that does the work, not the Apostles. Today the Holy Spirit is working in the lives of all who God gave to Jesus to keep in His hands. Nothing is impossible for God. Salvation is more varied now to individuals, the Holy Spirit does not fall on large groups at the same time, like Pentecost. Only the Apostles had the gift to give.
