Hi, I just got word of this- apparently researchers have come up with a major breakthrough in internet connection speed, they have come up with a fiber-optic cable with bandwidth of several petabits per second, this is so fast you could download the entire movie library of Netflix in 1 second! I can't wait to see what they do with this insane amount of bandwidth, they will come up with something mind-blowing for sure! Bandwidth is now close to becoming unlimited, there is no type of data that can even phase it at all! I can remember as a kid my family had a 14400 kbps dial-up modem connection with Prodigy internet and we thought that was the greatest thing ever, they had just rolled out email and internet chat rooms for the first time, we loved it! Eventually we upgraded to a 56k modem connection, if I wanted to download a video game I had to leave the computer on all night with the internet connection running, now I had 300 mbps to my apartment and I could download that in less than 1 second! Also when I was at college at IUP (Indiana University of Pennsylvania) in 2002 the campus had 15,000 students and the connection for the entire school was a T3 (45 mbps up/down), now I have 300 mbps to my apartment! Also at the same time RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) had like 20,000 students and the connection for the entire school was an OC-3 which had 144 mbps up/down. It is amazing what they are doing these days!
