    Yom Kippur By The Book

Thank you for your response. Here is a synopsis of his view: Whereas Protestants believe that faith alone is sufficient for salvation, and Catholics believe that faith plus works is required, Judaism states one earns salvation through merit. Also: it also says that anyone of any faith can...

    Yom Kippur By The Book

Thank you all for your perspectives. The link below respectively differs. (The intent is not to persuade you in any way regarding your faith, but to observe that those of different faiths might have completely different views of themselves.) Blessings.

Reader Poll - Would you be a Christian if there was no afterlife?

Thank you for your question. From what I have read, it appears we worship the same God. If you disagree, I will not argue the point. https://www.learnreligions.com/primary-sikh-beliefs-2993513 Peace.

Where is the rule against discussion of the Trinity. I can't find it.

Thank you for your post. It is not clear what you mean by “discussion“: is it “help me understand the Trinity,” or ”let’s analyze a historic heresy”? The Nicene and Apostles Creeds are each a clear statement of the Trinity for faithful Christians. ??? Blessings

Reader Poll - Would you be a Christian if there was no afterlife?

Thanks for the post (but perhaps it should have been a new topic?). My answer: yes, as part of the parental responsibility in raising children. Parents have a responsibility to teach their children to Love God and Love Their Neighbors, even though they may not understand or appreciate why...

Reader Poll - Would you be a Christian if there was no afterlife?

Thanks for the response. It sounds like an obvious conclusion, but would you also embrace the various holidays, culture, etc.? Would you abandon all of the New Testament? By the way, Sikhs are also monotheistic, but again, you might not find their culture convivial. Peace.

    A paraphrase of Eph 1.1

Thank you for your post. Your paraphrases are in fact useful in gaining understanding of terms and passages. Bravo! (And yes, the best translation is still required.) So, here is a passage that speaks to me about the role of a community of faithful in maintaining that community: 15 “If your...

If I am "commanded" to love you (brother/sister), what is it you think my love is commanded to be? (dreaming?)

Thank you for trying to clarify. Not to be overly picky, but “mature” is not a verb. Fruit ripens or becomes mature. Perhaps you didn’t like ”Jesus starts ripening the fruit of the spirit,” or “He will ripen the fruit.” Blessings.

    Overwhelmingly blessed, Prayer & praise.

Thank you for your post and honesty. We join with you in prayer that God will assist you with your chosen burdens. Work-life balance is important for everyone who has a family. A colleague once told me his approach, with the blessing of his family regarding the long hours: when at work, he...

    Why Does Iran HATE Israel?

Thank you for your post. Here is one person’s reply: Blessings

If I am "commanded" to love you (brother/sister), what is it you think my love is commanded to be? (dreaming?)

Thank you for your post. Please help me understand “the last six commandments should be matured . . . . “ Blessings.

If I am "commanded" to love you (brother/sister), what is it you think my love is commanded to be? (dreaming?)

Thank you for your post. Since Jesus told us that on the two great commandments, Love God and Love Your Neighbor, hang ALL of the Law and the prophets, we should be able, with some study, understand Love Your Neighbor. Here are seven suggested characteristics of Love Your Neighbor: Sharing...

Thoughts about confession and repentance - not the same thing

Thank you (again) for your thought-provoking post. To begin, the foundation: the two great commandments—Love God and Love Your Neighbor. Love Your Neighbor has two companion characteristics: (a) to forgive those who harm you, and (b) to make amends if you harm someone, unintentionally or not...

Reader Poll - Would you be a Christian if there was no afterlife?

Thank you for the addition. The result you found mostly saddens me. To be cynical, it could be interpreted to say that without a reward, they won’t obey. On the other hand there are those who say that the two (the afterlife and Jesus must be the Christ) are inseparable. Peace be with you...

    The Human Mind...

Thank you for your thoughtful response. By the way, there are a number YouTube videos featuring Keith Ward on this subject. Regarding your question about whether imagination could be a spiritual sense. Intriguing! Consider a mathematical object like the perfect circle. It strictly cannot...

    Yom Kippur By The Book

Thank you for your post. A friend asks, “Why do we need a priest to intercede for us with God. Didn’t Martin Luther say we could pray to God directly?” Blessings.

    The Human Mind...

Thank you for your post and the above reply. Here is a reference worth delving into, by Keith Ward (philosopher, Regius Professor of Divinity at Oxford): “More Than Matter? What Humans Really Are“ (2010, Lion Hudson). Although we as Christians are well aware of our spiritual nature and a...

Should Deceptive Political Ads Be Censored (and if so, By WHOM?)

Thank you for your reply (but, I was hoping you wanted to discuss “taxing the rich”). Of course there is the Harris campaign add stating President Trump wants to implement a national sales tax, implying family taxes will be drastically increased etc. Fact: President Trump (and many, many...

Should Deceptive Political Ads Be Censored (and if so, By WHOM?)

Thank you for your post. The great thing about the public internet is that viewers have the opportunity to comment on what they view as misleading and out-of-context posts. With your example, the Harris campaign could follow up with comments on what she actually said (which, by the way, says...

    Should Christians get tattoos?

Thank you for your honest post. It is hard to discern your intent other than: The visual image presented to the outside world is a (bold) statement of your faith, with (via the earrings) an overall attractive appearance. (???) As a good Christian you try your best to be internally humble...
