Did Jesus say that adultery is grounds for divorce? - Nope.

All the marriages recorded in Genesis are political alliances. That's why they got recorded. Not so easy to cancel without starting a war. Other than that, Deuteronomy allows a man to divorce his wife for any reason, not just fornication. Most of the rules in the Law are actually preventing...

    The problem with "Free Palestine"

Posts 20 & 32. Please don't lie just to justify yourself. That's in post #44. :confused Maybe I should ask you for a source for this. You forgot one... 0. Philistines You just proved my original point. Thanks? If you say so. I don't study the Koran. Which is it? It does or doesn't? I...

Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so a 1000 yr reign on this earth is false

As nearly as I can tell, it's talking about the systems of government and jurisprudence in Israel at the time. I read John 18 like this... Pilate: "Are you the King of the Jews?" Jesus: "Did you come up with that yourself, or did someone tell you about Me?" Pilate: "Am I a Jew? Your own...

    The problem with "Free Palestine"

I already did using Scripture AND 2 scholarly sources. At this point I'm going to chalk this up as your refusing to see your own hand in front of your face. Moving on...

Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so a 1000 yr reign on this earth is false

Just saying - if believers are 'not of the world' does that make us little green men from outer space? No... So it stands to reason that where the quotation says 'world,' it doesn't exactly mean planet earth.

Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so a 1000 yr reign on this earth is false

You've understood the word 'world' in the verse to mean the earth. That's understandable - it's the modern meaning of the word. However, I don't think that's the right meaning. The word there translated world means something like 'the order of things.'

    The problem with "Free Palestine"

They're the same word but in two different languages. There are no genealogies of the Philistines OR the Palestinians. We agree on this point. DNA comparison shows that modern Palestinians are predominantly descendants of the Canaanites, with a splash of Arabic tribes. No it wouldn't. The...

    The problem with "Free Palestine"

In David's day, it was normal for a king to be thought of as an adopted son of their god(s), with the adoption happening at the time of their coronation. Psalm 2 is thought to be part of David's coronation as it proclaims that David has been adopted by God. The New Testament applies Psalm 2 to...

    The problem with "Free Palestine"

I know that's what historians say, but the Bible says otherwise. It says they are descended through Mizraim the son of Ham: Gen 10: Mizraim begat Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim, and Pathrusim, and Casluhim, (out of whom came Philistim,) and Caphtorim. That makes them native to...

    Yahweh or Jehovah?

Apologies if I offended. That wasn't my intent. The irony of introducing a second name to argue about in a topic already arguing about a name was something I found funny.

    The problem with "Free Palestine"

In the Bible, the idea of a "son of God" comes first from Psalm 2: 1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, [saying], 3 Let us break their bands...

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

I might start at the Apostle's Creed: Although I must admit, it isn't exactly Trinitarian. There is nothing there of the Spirit.

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

It depends on your church. Catholic priests preach in homilies - that is they recite large swaths of the Biblical text with a small amount of commentary attached. Good Catholics also learn catechism, which is more about tradition than history per se. Finally, Catholic services are in no small...

The Problem of Egypt and the Exodus in the Bible

There's a problem with our Bible translations. It's about Egypt. Egypt figures prominently in the Exodus story, but the word Egypt is a translation and maybe not a very good one. The problem is that saying Egypt conjures images of modern Egypt... ...or the historical Egyptian empire...

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

Disagree - most churches today aren't trying to emulate the early church. They are looking for something "relevant to today." Academia draws that line at Nicea; with Eusebius. If you purchase a library of Early Church Fathers, the first set is Ante-Nicene Fathers. The history of the Catholic...

Was the Transfiguration a vision, or an actual appearance of Moses and Elijah?

Quoting Ecclesiastes is usually a mistake. The whole book is full of examples of faulty human wisdom, which are provided specifically for the purpose of saying that they FAIL. As in the very next verse... Ecc 12:8 Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

I don't find this particularly troubling. All of the statements affirmed here are true. Perhaps they don't constitute Trinitarianism, but being true is enough for me. Do we really need some kind of -ism with which to exclude each other? Again, this doesn't seem like a pressing problem...

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

Are you going to include in your studies the controversies that led to the synods? I do not believe that popes (or emperors) have a legitimate power of excommunication. At any rate, there are a dozen or more Orthodox churches that continue existing to this day, despite having been...

    The problem with "Free Palestine"

Gen 10:13-14 And Mizraim begat Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim, and Pathrusim, and Casluhim, (out of whom came Philistim,) and Caphtorim. Philistine and Palestine are the same word. The Philistines clearly exist as a people in the Bible. You're right on this one - the people...
