Should the Bible translation be changed? (Poll)

"Jesus" is a transliteration (by way of New Testament Greek, Ἰησοῦς) of the attempted Hebrew, Yahushua (which is also a transliteration into the Latin alphabet). Without transliteration, His name would be spelt [יְהוֹשׁוּעַ]. Restated, Jesus < [Ἰησοῦς] < [יְהוֹשׁוּעַ]. Yahushua <...

Should the Bible translation be changed? (Poll)

That is called transliteration, not translation. Transliteration is when we speak or spell a person's original name as close as we can in our own language. Hebrew has a different alphabet and speech sounds that we do not customarily use (or train to use) in modern English. And I agree that...

Should the Bible translation be changed? (Poll)

From the OP, I thought that you were the OP, so how would you translate Jesus, too?

Your use of the word, "alibi," here, confuses me.

Should the Bible translation be changed? (Poll)

I think that this thread shows the new can of worms that name translation would open up. You stated earlier how you would translate Jesus. How would you translate Adam, Eve, Isaac, Rebekah, Esau/Edom, Jacob, Rachel, Moses, Zipporah, et al. (including place names)?

Should the Bible translation be changed? (Poll)

Even though Jacob had God's favor, it still required [blessed?] treachery to "steal" Isaac's blessing for the firstborn, Esau. Restated using name translation, Even though Underhanded had God's favor, it still required [blessed?] treachery to "steal" Laugher's blessing for the firstborn, Hairy.

Should the Bible translation be changed? (Poll)

He was "underhanded" to Esau, Isaac & Laban, but later, God gave him a new name, Israel [God's Prince].

Should the Bible translation be changed? (Poll)

That is how those names struck the Hebrew ear. "jacob/underhanded" is a word; "Jacob/Underhanded" is a name. That "heel-catcher" is a synonym demonstrates the synonym dilemma. When the Hebrews heard "Jacob," they heard it both literally AND figuratively, just like we do with "Underhanded." A...

Should the Bible translation be changed? (Poll)

I am an amateur onomast. Your point is linguistically valid, but culturally problematic (in modern English). Some cultures (like ancient Hebrew) use their own dictionaries as a source for their baby names. Others (like modern English) have a pool of names that originate outside of our own...

    The Decoy Gospel

Tares [Matthew 13:24-30; 36-43] are supposed to look like genuine wheat, but are hollow inside. "But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves,... having a form of godliness but denying its power." 2 Timothy 3:1-5 NKJV

Thanks for the update. (I hope he took a look at my Swedish link.) (Jag hoppas att han tog en titt på min svenska länk.) (Checking out his other threads, it looks like he might be trying to say a catchphrase like, "Can I get a witness...?")

    What about personal finances?

Using the banking methods that we were taught in high school [single, joint checking account], my wife & I lost track of our spending and went bankrupt in 2004. Afterwards, I opened multiple free checking accounts at our bank at the time, each with its own financial category. I found out later...
