    Apologetics about Substitutionary Atonement

If his crucifixion was intended to teach me how my sins may be forgiven, I missed the lesson. I still am missing it. What's the take-away that I'm just missing?

    Apologetics about Substitutionary Atonement

If Christ “died for our sins,” 1 Cor. 15:3, but substitutional atonement is not the explanation, what is the explanation? How did Calvary accomplish forgiveness of sins. Or did it?

Where does the Pope get his authority?

I can;t speak for Methodists and Lutherans, but Anglicans never held to sola scriptura. Richard Hooker's three-legged stool has held sway in Anglican thinking for centuries.

who was at the council 325?

Where are you getting this from? My understanding is that he was never indicted -- not because of anticipated difficulty in having him extradited from Rome, but because at the time it was not illegal to do what he did.

who was at the council 325?

These things are mentioned in R.P.C. Hanson’s The Search for the Christian Doctrine of God (1988), and in Rowan Williams’ Arius: Heresy and Tradition (rev. ed. 2001)., distilled from available ancient sources. Constantine's speech at the opening of the council is found in Schaff, History of the...

They're suing to get the ten commandments out of schools

For those interested, here is the Complaint seeking to declare the Louisiana statute unconstitutional. And here is a link to Stone v. Graham, in which SCOTUS struck down a similar law in Kentucky.

Where does the Pope get his authority?

Exactly! This was a part of first-century Jewish culture, calling for immersion in the mikveh for new Jewish converts, precisely for this reason. A decent primer on this states: "Submerging in a pool of water for the purpose not of using the water’s physical cleansing properties but expressly...

Where does the Pope get his authority?

I don't give a flying f*%k at a rolling doughnut whether you strung those two sentences together in the same second, or same minute, or same hour, or same day! You posted them TOGETHER. Adjacent.

Reasons why the Jehovah’s Witness religion is false (Despite my love for them as human beings)

It is not expressly stated in Scripture, it is only implied. That's why I don't rely just on Scripture for my belief. The suggestions of multiple "persons" is implicit in the plural form of Elohim, but this, too, is not expressly stated. And God doesn't talk to Himself, even if it were...

who was at the council 325?

You know I disagree with this, right?

Reasons why the Jehovah’s Witness religion is false (Despite my love for them as human beings)

Equal in substance, not in personhood, Aunty. My modicum of comprehension suggests that if the Son deemed equality with God as not something to be "grasped at" but rather something for him to "empty himself" of, he did not retain what he had prior to his incarnation. And it was restored to him...

Where does the Pope get his authority?

What on earth are you talking about? Nothing is rewritten here. It's the exact same language, with a red commentary in the middle. Your "this" in the phrase "And this is why" refers to the preceding sentence, drawing a causal connection between the preceding sentence and instructions to be...

Reasons why the Jehovah’s Witness religion is false (Despite my love for them as human beings)

That's true. Alexander's letter to other Mediterranean bishops quotes Arius as saying "The Father also is ineffable to the Son; for neither does the Word perfectly and accurately know the Father, neither can He perfectly see Him." Arius's Thalia states "“God Himself then, in His own nature, is...

who was at the council 325?

Would you accept a well-researched, historically plausible novel instead?

Reasons why the Jehovah’s Witness religion is false (Despite my love for them as human beings)

I don't see it as deception. I respect opposing views of course, including by modern-day Arians like JWs. But I make up my own mind on things regardless of the teachings of my Church, whose views I also respect. This is a free-thinking Trinitarian you're talking to.

    Continuing Education

That wasn't my experience in college.

    SCOTUS

My prediction is that SCOTUS will not grant "all" immunity -- what Trump's team calls and the Justices at argument called (and I call) "absolute immunity." But I won't bother to give you my reasons, lest I be accused of being "argumentative."

Reasons why the Jehovah’s Witness religion is false (Despite my love for them as human beings)

You do realize there are a billion Trinitarians, right? Is there not one who knows anything?

    Was Mary sinless?

I thought it was funny. You revealed yourself as Catholic the moment you capitalized "Her" when referring to Mary. I don't think any Protestants do that.

    Was Mary sinless?

Fair point, but with one rather obvious qualification: Whatever equal qualities of God He "emptied himself" of (Phil. 2:6-8) were not contained within her body and spirit, was not given birth to, did not get kissed or hugged or fed or clothed by her, etc.
