    Favourite Church Father?

Origen. He's neo-Platonic to a fault, but insightful in a way none of his predecessors were.

The strange wording of Isaiah 43:10

I'll just lift this quote out of the website you have linked: "On the whole, Smith's book -- following a number of other scholars-- shows how Israelite polytheism was a feature of Israelite religion down through the end of the Iron Age and how monotheism emerged in the seventh and sixth...

The strange wording of Isaiah 43:10

Not when Isaiah 43 was written.

    Was Jesus literate?

I just checked Phil. 2:6-7, and sure enough, YOU ARE RIGHT! It says "who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself of everything except literacy, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men."

    Was Jesus literate?

Both are true, Bob. But knowing what is in "the book" (not sure which book you have in mind) and being able to read are two different things. And it being possible for a three month old to write if God wants to enable that, and God having actually enabled that, are two different things.

Drinking Alcohol, should a Christian do it?

when any mortal (even the most odd) can justify the ways of man to God i'll think it strange that normal mortals can not justify the ways of God to man -- e e cummings

    Was Jesus literate?

I think he was literate too -- but not for the reason you mention. (Was he able to read and write at age 3 months?)

The strange wording of Isaiah 43:10

You mean, like every Jewish scholar for the past 2,700 years?

The strange wording of Isaiah 43:10

Yes, it is a little strange to refer to God as "formed" -- something implied by the verse, but not actually stated. (I suppose "No God was formed before me" and "No God will be formed after me" is consistent with "and I wasn't 'formed' either.")

Where does the Pope get his authority?

One can lie about the accolades afforded one's book, yet the content of the book could theoretically still be accurate. But it is still fair to impeach the author's credibility by pointing out his lie. As Luke 16:10 put it, "If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large...

    Will unbelievers never be saved?

Matt 6:14 quotes Jesus is saying “For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” Is forgiving others, without more, enough to be judged positively on Judgment Day and have our own sins forgiven? Matt. 6:14 -- like John 3:16 -- is unconditional...

Recommendations for studying after the Gospel of John?

Does it have to be book of the a Bible next? If not, I'd recommend James Louis Martyn’s book History and Theology in the Fourth Gospel.

Major contradiction: John 2 versus Matthew 4

John 2 says that Jesus had disciples with him at the Cana wedding, and that the water-into-wine miracle was Jesus's first, after which his disciples "believed in him" (John 2:11). It's nice that John picks up on the fact that one need not see a miracle before becoming a disciple. Matt. 4...

Where does the Pope get his authority?

Actually, I want to tell you you're involved in deception because you falsely claim, both on this thread and on your website, that your "book" won an award. If I claimed that I wrote an award-winning book, wouldn't it be fair to ask me about it -- and call me out for lying about it if it turned...

Where does the Pope get his authority?

One can promote Jesus Christ without misrepresenting awards, accolades or how a book is received. Misrepresentations can't promote Jesus Christ. Deception can't glorify God.

Where does the Pope get his authority?

    And the award?

Where does the Pope get his authority?

Tell us about the award. Who bestowed it? And why wasn't your book published through a commercial publisher? Did you try, only to have it rejected?

Where does the Pope get his authority?

So, you are revising your position as you go along. First you say Matt. 24:20's admonishment was addressed only to Israel (Post #479), and when called out on the illogic of that interpretation, you now say that Jesus's admonishment is to be ignored -- because other NT writers (as you interpret...

Where does the Pope get his authority?

It doesn't help at all. Jesus told his disciples "privately" (Matt. 24:3) to pray that the end times would not require a Sabbath flight (Matt. 24:20), knowing that they would be Christians at that time (whether occurring during the Fifth Administration or Sixth Administration or whatever you...
