What does it mean to 'study the Bible'?

thanks -- i think what you've put, taking knowledge from it, is kind of already represented in the current list, "believe it" as far as the latter part of your comment, i would consider 'applying the Bible to your life' to be kind of a separate category from 'studying the Bible' i'm looking...

What does it mean to 'study the Bible'?

ok, but 386 pages is kind of a lot to parse. i am looking for the answer to "what does 'study the Bible' mean?" can you put what you learned about defining that, from this 400 page pdf? i.e. what qualifies as 'Bible study' and why? if i tell someone to study the Bible, what am i expecting them...

God changed Seventh Day Sabbath Worship to First Day of the Week

For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. (James 2:10) the law = the law. your little human tradition / false doctrine of 'not under some of it, but under some of it' is frankly complete BS and it's 100% contrary to scripture.

God changed Seventh Day Sabbath Worship to First Day of the Week

the law is the law. it is one law, and it is not shattered into pieces. people by their human tradition try to separate it into parts they can ignore and parts they can subjugate believers under. there is nothing in scripture to justify that false doctrine. if you break any of the law, you are...

What does it mean to 'study the Bible'?

ok; i understand -- i'm leaving 'find Christ in the OT' in the list tho, because that is literally what the Bereans were doing. also because, John 5:39, Luke 24:27 etc. the Hebrew scripture is testimony of Him. but what you put is a good contribution, thanks! i will add it like this: Reading...

What does it mean to 'study the Bible'?

okay let me add it to the list this way: Reading the scripture Believing it Praying for understanding of it Delighting in it Meditating on it Finding Christ in the OT Internalizing it being taught by the Spirit through it i want to be careful to point out how that clearly people read the...

The law of the Sabbath was made for who and for what?

we should neither judge anyone for keeping or not keeping sabbath, nor should we allow anyone to be judged over keeping or not keeping sabbath.

The law of the Sabbath was made for who and for what?

we do not assume that we are commanded to create the moon and the sun and the stars just because God did. so it's nonsensical to say that because God rested *once* it is implicitly commanded that we ritually commemorate it perpetually. God & His Christ do not cease working ((John 5:17))...

God changed Seventh Day Sabbath Worship to First Day of the Week

excuse me, what?? "injuring babies" ? you know that circumcision was commanded by God 430 years before the law, right? and that it's in the law, too? so your comment is essentially calling the law evil, and calling God evil? wow.

God changed Seventh Day Sabbath Worship to First Day of the Week

nowhere is Jesus or any of the apostles recorded as commanding observation of sabbath. if you presume that 'keep My commandments' means to ritually cease activity on a certain schedule because it's in Exodus, then you are liable to keep the whole law because you are guilty of all of it if you...

What does it mean to 'study the Bible'?

OK I was thinking more about what is in the passage you put, and there is 'hide the word in your heart' and 'will not forget it' -- which I think corroborates the first post, 'memorize' it, but I would strengthen the way I phrase that, because people can simply memorize things without having any...

What does it mean to 'study the Bible'?

In their case, in this context, they were searching the OT to confirm the NT - the things Paul & Silas were telling them. Is that what you mean? Part of studying the scripture is looking for the gospel in the Hebrew Bible? I agree =] Reading the scripture Believing it Praying for...

Hi - The avatar reflects a number of passages, including Colossians 3:3 - ".. for you have died, and your life is hid in Christ" - the post of the flesh is dead, living now by spirit I don't have any tattoos. If I ever got one it would probably be 'belonging to YHWH' in Hebrew, on my right...

What does it mean to 'study the Bible'?

Would it be fair to restate this comment as 'believe the Bible' to add to the list? I am thinking about it and it seems to me 'let the Spirit teach you' is a bit vague

Thanks, I'll start a list: Reading the Bible Let the Spirit teach what? What kind of things does the Spirit teach? How does the Spirit teach? Just by us reading?
