Why are there four Gospel accounts in the New Testament?

None of his writings, gospel or otherwise, are extant today. We have copies of copies of his gospel (because Christians wanted to preserve it, and so made copies), but not of any other writings he penned. What's your point?

Why are there four Gospel accounts in the New Testament?

Actually, MATTHEW said it was spoken by Jeremiah.

Why are there four Gospel accounts in the New Testament?

But Zechariah himself is the "I" -- the actor -- referenced in Zechariah 11:12-13. Not Jeremiah. Jeremiah wouldn't have "spoken" those words, recounting a conversation between God and Zechariah years after Jeremiah was dead.

Why are there four Gospel accounts in the New Testament?

Is there another explanation for the error in Matthew 27:9? If so, I'd like to hear it!

Why are there four Gospel accounts in the New Testament?

I find that quite disrespectful, M-I. All I did was ask how you explain Matthew's mistake given your "it didn’t come from their minds" comment. And for that, you insult me. Wouldn't it be better --and more in keeping with the nature of this forum -- just to engage the question and provide an...

Why are there four Gospel accounts in the New Testament?

Where do you suppose Matthew 27:9 came from, if not Matthew's mind?

    Paul

    No reason to think so.

John 1:1 - Jesus is the Father or he's not the one true God?

Kermos, haven't we been through this before on another thread, where you wrote the exact same thing? (Are you the author, or are you quoting someone else?) I'm a Trinitarian like you, but as I pointed out last time, Paul's use of the singular δόξης is not probative of the point you wish to...

Why are there four Gospel accounts in the New Testament?

This is an important observation. But as to particular witnesses, it's also a little speculative; we don't know who Luke interviewed. There is a hearsay issue lurking here. For instance, if he interviewed Mary (which would be a little surprising), and Mary told him what Elizabeth related to...

Why are there four Gospel accounts in the New Testament?

Why are there four gospel accounts? Because four men were moved to write accounts of the earthly ministry of Jesus. (Actually more than four, but only those we now know as Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were endowed by consensus -- centuries later -- with canonical status.) It's as simple as...

What is the Price Jesus Paid?

Then salvation is a process, not a one shot deal. The proper answer to Fundamentalists who ask me "Are you saved?" is "Not yet; I am being saved (hopefully)."

What is the Price Jesus Paid?

Is eternal life assured for believers, despite their sins?

    "The word was a god"?

Totally agree. But let's not allow confirmation bias to creep in to our interpretations of ambiguous verses. That is always a huge danger.

    "The word was a god"?

We have an interpretive question here. No one is contesting that Rev. 3:14 refers to Christ as the beginning of God's creation. But this use of "beginning" could simply mean Christ originated all creation, as its source, as its cause (a la John 1:3). Strongs tells us that this is a proper...

    Are ghosts real?

But you said God DID reveal the truth in 1 Samuel! That was your whole argument! Six times today, so far! Now you are saying otherwise? Be consistent. Either God chose to reveal the truth in EVERY WORD of 1 Samuel, or your selection of chapter 28 for God revealing the truth and chapter...

    Are ghosts real?

That's how it works? You declare yourself the victor and move on? Before you ascend the gold medal stand, how about answering my question on the contradiction in Mark and 1 Samuel?

    Are ghosts real?

And silly me, all this time I thought this was a Christian Debate forum! I see now I was wrong. I see now that anyone posting on this site with the temerity to disagree with you needs to be rebuked. Maybe the Lord will deputize YOU to rebuke me, by showing how the contradiction between Mark...

    Are ghosts real?

Then you are surely blessed to understandeth First Samuel so well. Maybe you can understandeth this one. Mark 2:26 quotes Jesus as saying that David entered the house of God and ate the altar bread “when Abiathar was high priest.” 1 Sam. 21:1-6 is explicit that Ahimelech, not his son...
