    Please explain this.

The Five Crowns that will be awarded to believers at the Bema seat of Christ, are all given for what the Holy Spirit has produced in the believer. A study of the Crowns is quite instructive as to what is expected of us. Being an "overcomer" has approximately the same meaning as "victor" and it...

    Please explain this.

Paul is speaking in this passage AGAINST the reliance on the law. A better understanding would be yielded by substituting the word, "power" for the word "law" (which indeed, some dynamic translations do). Again, Paul is speaking of relying on the Holy Spirit. After he recites the...

    Please explain this.

Why would Paul make the distinction when it is likely they were ALL Gentiles. Most Jews would have shuddered at the idea of living in Corinth. Even though the Romans cleaned it up to some degree, it was still a seaport town with all the usual decadence and debauchery. You read YOURS! He was...

    Please explain this.

Then why aren't you following the dietary laws of Israel? Were the believers in Corinth, Ephesus and Galatia, Gentiles or were they Jews? How easy is it to love and forgive our enemies? The early Church settled this debate for the Gentiles--long ago at the Jerusalem Council.

    Please explain this.

I think that it IS possible to turn back to the world if one is not indwelt by the Holy Spirit--the indwelling is true salvation (Romans 8:9). How can we mere mortals do anything to reverse that? We can grieve the Holy Spirit by our behavior subsequent to salvation, but He will be there...

Mature Spiritual Christians No Longer Need the Written Word?

Yes--I agree. Keeping silence before Him is not at all the same as "clearing the mind" which can be a "mind-altering" practice. When we keep silence before Him, it is because we are in awe of His majesty. All of heaven will keep silence for one-half hour--likely in awe of the wrath that will...

    Please explain this.

True but faith is in the priority position.

Mature Spiritual Christians No Longer Need the Written Word?

Even though I have an MS in counseling psychology, I have had to "forget" much of it because it is frequently ungodly. I actually prefer to call myself a Biblical counselor as the Bible has all the truth we will ever need to live a life that is pleasing to God--which is all that anyone ever...

Mature Spiritual Christians No Longer Need the Written Word?

Yes--in that passage, the Bible teaches us to "think on" truth, justice, honor, the beautiful, wisdom, etc. The world chooses to focus on violence, ugliness, what is dishonorable, etc.

Mature Spiritual Christians No Longer Need the Written Word?

The Bible never tells us to do such things. "Clearing the mind" is a mystical practice and the Bible teaches us to "reason together" over the words of Scripture.

    Please explain this.

One parameter for the proper interpretation of Scripture--especially the Epistles--is to answer the question, to whom was the "letter" addressed? James tells you who he is writing to at the beginning of his Epistle: "I am writing to the 'twelve tribes' --Jewish believers scattered abroad..."...

Mature Spiritual Christians No Longer Need the Written Word?

"New Age" mysticism is merely re-packaged Old Age pagan mysticism. When the Bible is not the strong foundation underpinning faith and the practice of it, we are left with mysticism and the opinions of mere men on God. The Apostle Paul criticizes this error well in Romans 1. "...And they...

Poll and thread: Is smoking always a sin?

There is an emotional component to gout, apparently. Stress causes higher uric acid levels (the causative factor in gout). Smokers tell me that smoking eases their stress.

Mature Spiritual Christians No Longer Need the Written Word?

Yes. The reason why a non-literal interpretation of the Bible is so dangerous is that it takes the purifying fire out of the gospel. When the Bible is spiritualized, reading and studying it becomes a mere intellectual exercise--lacking convicting power toward repentance. Salvation does not...

Mature Spiritual Christians No Longer Need the Written Word?

Yes, the RCC, for as long as there has been an RCC (began about 500 A.D. no matter what the RCC says) has added to the Bible. If you challenge an RC on all sorts of anti-Bible teaching, they always have pat answers. I could recount dozens of ways that the RCC departs from Scripture but it...

    The Cross and The Devil

I love the marriage symbolism that Jesus Himself evoked at the Passover celebration, on the night before He died. The "bride price" was the precious Blood of Jesus and the "dower" is given at the end of the great celebration of the Marriage Supper, from the Bridegroom to the Bride. The Church...

    The Cross and The Devil

Yes--the Blood of Jesus is, like the Bible, a two-edged sword. It brings salvation to those under the mercy and grace of God ("they have washed their robes and made them white, in the Blood of the Lamb"); it brings utter condemnation and an eternity of death to those who despise it. No wonder...

    The Cross and The Devil

It has also been referred to as a "bride-price" which was always paid to the Father of the Bride.

    Why evil?

That's not to say that some OT passages were/are not binding on both Old Covenant people AND New Covenant people of God. There really isn't anything new in terms of what God considers to be sin. Sin is still doing things which He has declared to be sin from a long time ago.

Poll and thread: Is smoking always a sin?

Too bad that standard English doesn't include a singular and plural "you". "Y'all" and "You'uns" serve a definite linguistic purpose! ;) LOL
