It is not in the bible.....but believed

I think given our human nature, the fact that she was living with Joseph who was her husband, that the jews who lived in the community viewed Jesus as having brothers and sisters, then we can pretty much be sure that she did have other children. There was no contraception in those times...and...

It is not in the bible.....but believed

but then that begs the question, is it wise to create a theology or doctrines on what is not in the bible?

    Fate vs. faith

Thanks for your reply... I think you'll agree that we have free will, yes? What does free will mean to you? (not trying to change the subject here, but the subject of human free will, being saved and being chosen to rule with Christ in heaven are all very different things and one does not...

It is not in the bible.....but believed

The bible doesn say that Joseph was previously married either. So i guess if we base our theology on what the bible does not say, we can create any story we like from it....enter davinchi code, enter Jesus lived in India before he founded christinity, Jesus had a sexual relationship with Mary...

It is not in the bible.....but believed

cross reference that with Galatians 1:18 and we see that James is named as 'the brother of the Lord' as opposed to Cephus who is named an Apostle. It certainly is not sacrilege for Mary to have had children. there is no shame in that Mary and Joseph had children. The mosaic law was clear...

Why is Christianity so focused on Sin?

practicing sin could be living with someone to whom we are not married. It could be getting drunk. It could be lying to our boss about being sick so we can stay home for work and play computer games. Cheating on our taxbill and not fully disclosing all our income. Failing to obey the traffic...

    A very simple question.

I guess its seen in the decisions I make in my life. How I apply Gods laws when I'm behind closed doors and when no one can see what i'm doing. If we truly believe in what we read in the bible, we should apply it. We should have love of neighbour and that should be seen in how we treat people...

    A very simple question.

Faith in the Good News Faith in Jesus Christ and his ransom of us from sin and death. Faith that God will soon act in our behalf. Faith that doing Gods Will and living by his laws is the best thing for us. Faith that Gods Sovereignty is the most superior and only Sovereignty we need to live...

    Fate vs. faith

Romans 5:1 tells us that faith is the reason for our salvation. I believe having 'free will' discounts the idea that 'fate' can take us anywhere. The decision is ours and God asks us to make a decision. If we have faith, hopefully we will make the best decision and live according to that faith.

It is not in the bible.....but believed

The scriptures do say that Christ fulfilled the mosaic law perfectly. He was a jew, he lived by jewish law and jewish law forbade fornication. Sex was only permitted between married people. So if Christ was known to be someone who upheld the entire law, then we can be absolutely sure that he...

Why is Christianity so focused on Sin?

Hi mjrhealth, I agree with you that through Christs sacrifice, we have forgiveness of sin and there is no condemnation....everlasting life will be the result. But do you notice in the verse you quote Romans 8:1 that there is no condemnation 'to them which are in Christ Jesus who walk not...

    A very simple question.

The good thing is we are not left in the dark as to what the focus should be...the bible tells us 1 Cor 13:8-13 Paul explains it very well. The gifts were given because christianity was in its infancy and their faith was not strong. Paul said they were 'babes' and they had 'partial...

Why is Christianity so focused on Sin?

Its a good question and I guess we need to understand what 'sin' actually is to understand why christianity is so focused on it. Sin means to 'miss' The hebrew word actually means 'miss' as in when you throw a ball and it misses the hoop. In this sense, its like being 'off target' Our...

    A very simple question.

I would say that speaking in different tongues/languages was only for a time. Its served its purpose just as other miraculous gifts in the first century served their purpose. But they are not what christianity is about, nor what christianity should be focusing on. 1Cor 13:8... all the gifts...

Why we do NOT have Free Will !!

just on the above point, its true that we are dead if we 'continue' in sins But we have a choice to obey God regardless of our sinful 'nature' and for that reason, if we make the choice to obey Gods laws to the best of our ability, then through faith in Jesus, we can have a good standing before...

    Does the denomination matter?

looking at it from the ancient example of the Isrealites, if the priests were not living in harmony with Gods requriements, the whole nation was punished regardless. At times when the isrealites were invaded and sent into captivity, even the faithful servants were not spared. So we should...

    Does the denomination matter?

'the life of christ that is in them' is a very emotional way of looking at things there must come a point where our rational mind is involved. Jim Jones was leading a congregation who believed they were had the life of christ in them too... but we all know how they ended up We have to be...

    Does the denomination matter?

that is exactly right Prentis... the fruits of Gods spirit is what identifies true followers. If a church is not producing the right fruits, then it is not going to be 'one' with God and that is why denomination does matter. If our denomination is not producing the right fruits, then there is...

    Is Jesus God?

Jesus was flesh and blood.... that is far from 'God nature' as God is a 'spirit'
