    Three Days and Three Nights

Perhaps I need to further modify the OP to make it more clear as to what I'm looking for: Whenever the three days and three nights of Matthew 12:40 is brought up in a "discussion" with 6th day of the week crucifixion advocates, they frequently suggest that it is a common Jewish idiom for...

    Three Days and Three Nights

Perhaps someone new looking in will have an answer to heretoeternity's question.

    Three Days and Three Nights

heretoeternity, re: "Why would anyone be a 6th day of the week [crucifixion] advocate..." I don't know, but it seems that a large percentage of those who consider themselves to be Christian actually hold to that position.

    Three Days and Three Nights

Since it has been awhile, perhaps someone new looking in who thinks that the crucifixion took place on the 6th day of the week, and who thinks that the three nights specified in Matthew 12:40 actually means two nights because the verse is using common Jewish idiomatic language, will know of some...

    Three Days and Three Nights

sjmopas, OK, my bad. Since it had nothing to do with the OP, I apparently had a senior moment when I made the comment in post #170 regarding John 20:1. I have another topic about John 20:1 and I must have inadvertently had that in mind when I asked about it.

    Mark 16:9

Since it's been awhile, someone new looking in may know of an author.

    Three Days and Three Nights

sjmopas, re: "I am not sure what you mean when you say, '...you probably won't know of any writings', can you clarify?" Perhaps I'm wrong and you do know of some writing from the first century or before which shows a phrase stating a specific number of days and/or a specific number of nights...

Why do you believe what you believe?

I would venture a guess that when I realize that I have a new belief, that it was most likely engendered by some process occurring in my subconscious mind due to an exposure to outside stimuli, such as literature, lectures, media, conversation, reflection, experience, etc.

    Questions for an atheist

Question for a theist - what might be a conservative figure for the number of prayers that are being made world wide at any given moment?

    Three Days and Three Nights

sjmopas, Since you apparently are not a 6th day of the week crucifixion advocate, you probably won't know of any writing. re: "There are ...twelve hours of evening in each day...the nights (evenins)." John 20:19 says: "Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when...

    Three Curtains

Born_Again, OK, so you don't want to be serious with the problem. That is your prerogative I suppose.

    Three Curtains

Born_Again, re: "...I would stay with 1." What would you do if after you initial pick of curtain #1 - and before any curtains were opened - the host told you that you could stay with curtain #1 or switch to BOTH curtains #2 and #3?

    Questions for an atheist

rockytopva, re: "All of which came by intelligent design, in which God the Father is the designer!" And the usaual response would be; "Who designed the designer?"

    Belief a Conscious CHOICE?

BiffAndyy, re: "I can choose to believe in Leprechans the same way I choose to believe the chair I am sitting in will support me; it's a decision." And all I'm seeking is to find someone who can demonstrate such an ability by doing as requested in the OP. So far no one has done that.

    Three Curtains

Arnie Manitoba is saying that it would be advantageous for the contestant to switch. Anyone disagree?

    Mark 16:9

StanJ, re: "That was my point. Sunday is still the first day of the week as Mark 16:9 indicates. It is when Jesus rose from the dead." But only Mark 16:9 - as it is translated in the KJV - says so. The poster in the other topic wrote that even if Mark 16:9 wasn't authentic, it wouldn't...

    Three Days and Three Nights

heretoeternity, Since you're not a 6th day of the week crucifiction advocate, you probably don't know of any writing.

    Mark 16:9

re: "I'm pretty sure the first day of the week was Sunday then, just as it is now." I'm afraid I don't understand your point. I wonder if you might elaborate?

    Mark 16:9

Chuckt, re: "Jesus' resurrection was the only thing that could have changed the Sabbath." Perhaps, but there is no scripture that says so. re: "Acts 20:7 And upon the first [day] of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread..." You are merely assuming that the...

    Mark 16:9

Chuckt, re: "We don't need just Mark 16 to prove early Christians worshipped on the first day of the week." I'm not aware of any scripture that says that anyone observed the first day of the week as a day of rest and worship. What do you have in mind?
