    They were still His people when He sent Babylon to take them away captive. That did not mean they were in the land or protected there. There is a time set aside for Israel in the end where God will again deal with His people Israel. Only after that time when they get saved will He restore them...

    Being His people in an unbelieving and backslidden state means that they do not have protection or blessing from God. Regardless of what army currently controls much of the area around Jerusalem.
