    Also, see 1 John 4:15

Okay, Dave. How do you stack up on this score? What about 1 John 1:8

    The Issue of Calvinism.

Repent from what? Good thing that God is God (and you are not). Can you just be done with forecasting doom on others please? Just because I don't buy every single bit of John Calvin's theology doesn't mean that I am destined for a Christ-less hell.

    The Issue of Calvinism.

Jesus did not deny that a physical Kingdom is coming for Israel. When asked about it in Acts 1:6-7, He merely said that, "The Father determines those dates." (and then redirects their attention to the task at hand--telling the world about Him). If it was not a future reality, would He not have...

    The Issue of Calvinism.

I never said He was--Peter told us that God will eventually destroy the earth with fire. God makes the rules for us, we do not make them for Him. I do expect my friends to tell me the truth, but I expect them to share the truth with "love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness...

    The Issue of Calvinism.

We are NOT in Old Testament times. Jesus spoke of the sin of reviling. I hardly "reacted violently" and it was much more than a "slight rewording" on your part.

    The Issue of Calvinism.

The Ananias and Sapphira episode was a peculiar event and it seems not to have occurred elsewhere in the NT except for the immediate judgment on Herod in Acts 12:23. Perhaps both of those events were a foretaste of what life will be like in the Millennial Kingdom, when the Lord rules "with a...

    The Issue of Calvinism.

"There is now therefore no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."

    Calvinism is a Cult

That really is a red herring. It is abundantly clear in the Scriptures. What Calvinists and non-Calvinists are arguing about are much more subtle points of theology. We pretty much all agree that salvation and faith come by the agency of God alone and that we can do nothing to earn either...

    The Issue of Calvinism.

Was there a point that you were trying to make here? Please forgive me for saying so but, if there was a point, I failed to grasp what it was.

Why are our ordained pastors so ignorant of Scripture?

You are bending Scripture to suit your purposes. The Matthew 18 passage is about disciplining a church member for BEHAVIOR which is sinful and brings discredit on the church. 1 Cor. 11:19 is much more pertinent to the discussion at hand. From the 1 Cor. 11:19 passage, as well as the...

Why are our ordained pastors so ignorant of Scripture?

No, I do not have more of the Holy Spirit than anyone on this forum. That has nothing to do with the discussion at hand. He makes it sound like he knows who is adhering to true or correct doctrine. If he KNOWS what is true or correct doctrine then he MUST have the Holy Spirits guidance. How...

    The Issue of Calvinism.

Hard to know what the truth is, but the records of Geneva's Council were made public a while back and it is clear that they did Calvin's dirty work. All of the Calvin apologists have tried to make things to be different, for obvious reasons. Servetus and Calvin were FRIENDS! They had...

    The Issue of Calvinism.

Where in the New Testament does it say that the Lord is okay with us executing people over doctrinal differences? The RCC was wrong as well as John Calvin. Did you know that Calvin had a man tortured to death for daring to post a letter on Calvin's pulpit, outlining his grievances with Calvin...

    The Issue of Calvinism.

This mockery is not worthy of a follower of Christ. Why is it that you Calvinists feel that it is your privilege to mock and belittle other Christians? Oh, I get it, you are like your master "theologian," John Calvin who was responsible for the execution and even torture of scores of people...

    The Issue of Calvinism.

I did not say that He "allows" it anywhere but in this mortal life.

    The Issue of Calvinism.

No, I believe that He chose me, but I also believe that I could have turned away like the Rich Young Ruler.

    Calvinism is a Cult

Yes, I know--Acts 2: 5 says they were "devout Jews." But they were in the diaspora and devout Jews even today worry about keeping their faith in the diaspora, amidst the Gentiles. Even Jews in Israel had been greatly impacted by the Greek culture and language. (They had become "Hellenized")...

Why are our ordained pastors so ignorant of Scripture?

Yes. The Scripture that more-or-less discusses the issue is 1 Cor. 11:19 where Paul notes that the Corinthians have "divisions" in the church at Corinth over practices and teaching.

    Calvinism is a Cult

Interesting question but I suspect that God wanted to reinforce the idea that He was doing something new--that His Salvation was now available to all humans--not just Israel.
