The Church decided the canon. How do you know you have the correct canon?

People? Which people? On what authority? People disagree on all kinds of things so how you decide which people to believe?

The Church decided the canon. How do you know you have the correct canon?

Which books is all that matters though. Well definitions are good but I use generally accepted definitions not protestant definitions. No I don't believe any of you are conscious of what you're doing but I have engaged with protestants quite often and the pattern appears over and over. It's...

Baptism; By Man With Water and By Jesus With the Spirit

You have no clue what sufficient means do you? For the one millionth time faith is necessary but not sufficient just like Scripture says. (Hey Wick Stick, this is an example of what I was talking about.)

Baptism; By Man With Water and By Jesus With the Spirit

James 2:14-27 14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about...

Baptism; By Man With Water and By Jesus With the Spirit

It's amazing how stubborn you people are. Yes believe on Jesus but you don't believe Jesus when he says, Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven. Isaiah 29:13 reminds me of you Then the Lord said: Because this people draws near to me only with their words...

Baptism; By Man With Water and By Jesus With the Spirit

Volume doesn't make you right. Salvation is faith based but faith alone is useless Matt 7:21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord' will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my heavenly Father." BOTH faith AND doing the will of his heavenly Father. It's...

Baptism; By Man With Water and By Jesus With the Spirit

Not all who believe in Jesus will be saved. Jesus says so not me.

Baptism; By Man With Water and By Jesus With the Spirit

Right but we were talking about Jesus. He is God. The word was God and he was with God in the very beginning.

The Church decided the canon. How do you know you have the correct canon?

Well here is what you wrote that I responded to "You might need to define canon. Most Protestants think of canon in terms of "known to be reliable/inspired." I know I do" First there is no need for me to define canon since that's been done already. Second what most Protestants think canon...

The Church decided the canon. How do you know you have the correct canon?

No need to try again. The church is there to protect doctrine through reproof, correction and instruction. This is what the early church fathers did. Without the church or the early church fathers we might end up with more than 40,000 denominations. Oh wait....

The Church decided the canon. How do you know you have the correct canon?

This is what specifically I was responding to. You wrote "Show me a verse that says the church is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction so that a man of God will be completely furnished for all good works." I did

The Church decided the canon. How do you know you have the correct canon?

That's sweet. Since you folks have only been around since the 16th century Ill consider your definition accordingly. However I'll refer you to #2 can·on1 /ˈkanən/ noun 1. a general law, rule, principle, or criterion by which something is judged. "the appointment violated the canons of fair...

The Church decided the canon. How do you know you have the correct canon?

Known and canon aren't the same thing

The Church decided the canon. How do you know you have the correct canon?

Matthew 18:15-17. You really need to learn Scripture better before you post.

Baptism; By Man With Water and By Jesus With the Spirit

No the word was made flesh not man. John 1:2 He was with God in the very beginning

Why are there vacancies in Gods House?

Just accepting isnt enough though just like Jesus said. If belief was sufficient then our actions subsequent to accepting Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior wouldnt matter but that contradicts Scripture.

Why are there vacancies in Gods House?

First it doesn't say anywhere there that belief is the only thing necessary for eternal life. Second scripture shows that it's faith AND doing the will of God. Matthew 7:21 Not everyone who says to me 'Lord, Lord' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my...

    What Does it Mean…..?

I think the argument might hinge on 2 Corinthians 5:17, Consequently anyone united to Christ is a new creation. The old order has passed away. Behold, all has become new. I guess you could describe that as born again but is that really what it means? Now Nicodemus uses the phrase born again...

So: What caused the fall of the Roman Empire (if it wasn’t Christianity)?

The real question is who has the most authoritve interpretation of God's word?

So: What caused the fall of the Roman Empire (if it wasn’t Christianity)?

There's a story of Caligula wanting to make a horse a Roman senator. Today we have a supreme court justice who can't tell us what a woman is. It's not much of a difference. When debauchery is the norm this is the result. Truth has disappeared from the public square.
