"Why did God give you cancer?"

Thank you everyone for engaging. Is anyone here worried about contracting smallpox? Polio? The reasons so many of once horrible diseases are no longer a threat, or as much of a threat, are that (a) God expected us to have compassion for those who suffered, and (b) He endowed us with brains to...

    Prayer-Artur

Greetings, and bless you for your confession and plea for help. May God have mercy on you, for the foolish choices that brought about your predicament. May God guide and mentor you, give you wisdom and discernment, to assuage your seemingly hopeless situation. He will not abandon you in your...

    Assisted dying

Compassion, by all means. But when socialized medicine bureaucrats encourage euthanasia out of concern for government costs, that seems far from compassion. In contrast, here is the Wesleyan Covenant Prayer: “I am no longer my own, but thine. Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou...

    Assisted dying

That is one perspective, and perhaps the reason so many choose to end their lives before God does. On the other hand, if someone you knew felt that way, how might you council that person? For example, those that feel they are an unnecessary burden should be assured they are no such thing. It...

    Assisted dying

Thank you for your perspective. Can Christians still love their neighbors, even as they are physically helpless, in pain, and dying? What does God have to say to us? Blessings.

    What if Adam and Eve hadn’t disobeyed God . . . ?

Overheard on Family Life Radio, a brief dialog: Questioner: What if Adam and Eve had not disobeyed God (so that all born after would be fallen)? Would we still need Jesus? Responder: Jesus came not only to redeem, but to establish his Kingdom, so yes, we would still need Jesus. Comments?

Abortion up to birth bill passes in the UK

Thank you for the post. Given the influential Muslim population in the UK, it is a surprising development. Their pro-life views are essentially the same as those of Christians. Perhaps, as with other laws there, Muslims will decide what they will obey: to them, UK laws are irrelevant. Blessings.

    Exactly

Thanks for the reply. You are correct that God does not need protecting. If it sounds like Christians are protecting Him, that is an unfortunate anthropomorphism. Again, as I explained previously, when the Christian message is being slandered deliberately, Christians try their best to counter...

    Exactly

Thank you for your reply, which clarifies the discussion. Christians will be offended if God is slandered or mocked. Is that so different from defending another person from slander, lies, etc.? Is that so different from defending one’s beliefs from lies, etc.? If you are fighting for...

    Exactly

Thank you for your post and questions. It is clear from scripture that if you deliberately hurt another person, for your own selfish reasons, God will be offended. Or, if you are able to help the needy of your own volition, but choose to neither share nor care, God will be offended. (There...

    Christian nationalism

Thank you for your post. The term “Christian Nationalism” has no consistent definition, but depends on the agenda of the group discussing it. Here is what it means to me: Christian nationalism focuses on promoting Christian values in all aspects of political, cultural, and social life...

Hell as the default for humankind?

Thank you for the long analysis. Unfortunately, there remain questions for me (and possibly just me). The one person (A) strives his whole life to love his neighbor as described in the law and as clarified by Jesus. His flaw: He does not declare Jesus as savior. The second person (B)...

Hell as the default for humankind?

Thank you all for the discussion. The question of an eternity of suffering in fire for the nonbeliever still needs clarification: truly an eternity, and not a finite time, with the positive aspects of the nonbeliever’s life taken into consideration? Consider two people: A: This person is a...

Hell as the default for humankind?

Thank you for engaging. It would appear all of us agree that the clear teaching of Scripture is: without accepting Christ as Savior (and living as Christ said we should), then that person will spend eternity suffering after death. Well, suppose a person lives and exemplary life: loving God...

How might I Console a Relative in Hospice Who Refuses Visitors

Good friends: a close relative is in hospice, in some pain. I would like to be with him for even a short time, to pray with him and for him. His wife says he is refusing all visitors. What might be a reasonable approach? Blessings.

Hell as the default for humankind?

Pardon: we are interrupting the dialog in progress for an aside—separate discussion of “What is Justice?” Corrective justice: basically, redressing wrongs, making amends for damages. Retributive justice: assigning the offender punitive damages proportional to the crime. As opposed to revenge...
