Is it possible to lose salvation?

I didn't mean to suggest you in particular already know everyting. But there are others who are not willing to budge. I've read many of your posts, and although we don't always agree on every point of doctrine (what two Christians do?), I can tell you are a humble seeker of truth. Sorry for any...

Is it possible to lose salvation?

All good verses I've seen that translation, but I don't think it aligns with the Greek. The Greek word is δύναμαι "dunamai" and it means, "to be able or possible." That is how it is used all the time in other verses. I understand this verse to be saying that the seed which remains in us can...

Is it possible to lose salvation?

That's a good answer. You're right, it wouldn't be wise to answer it. You know within yourself and that's what matters. James uses the same Greek word, "telios" as Matthew 5:48. The people of that time and place would not understand it to mean the same thing as we in the modern West understand...

Is it possible to lose salvation?

I haven't said one way or the other. God's Grace quoted 1 John 3:9 as proof that we can sin too much and lose salvation. I just pointed out that it sure seems to say that anyone born again is incapable of sinning, "...he cannot sin, because he is born of God." I just don't see that as a good...

Is it possible to lose salvation?

First of all, Jesus was not talking to Christians. There was no such thing before the day of Pentecost. Things took a radical change of direction on that day. Secondly, the Greek word for "perfect" is "complete" and it'd be worth your while seeing how that word is used elsewhere. We ought to...

Is it possible to lose salvation?

That's pretty nebulous. But but taking 1 John 3:9 at face value, it looks like once someone is born again they are incapable of sinning. Ergo, once born again always born again. Maybe there's more to it? I think there is.

Rom 7:23-25, 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So...

Is it possible to lose salvation?

You misjudge my motive. It's an honest question. If we can loose salvation due to sinning, there must be some standard. I just wonder if anyone knows what it is.

Dealing with : The Body of Sin

Read Romans 7. Paul readily admitted he followed the law of sin in the flesh. I would think that means we still sin...on a regular basis at that!

    Faith does not save you.

Not one single Christian obeys God's moral law of conduct. All of them, including Paul (Rom 7), sin on a regular basis. If you're right, and I trust you aren't, the new earth will be a lonely place. Jesus will be all by himself.

Is it possible to lose salvation?

The thing I always wonder when this topic comes up is how many sins does one get before it's too late? Can anyone be sure they haven't yet, or will in the future, go over the limit? Even Paul admitted he served the law of sin (Romans 7). I wonder if he went over the limit. I hope not. Assuming...

Why supporting convicted felon Trump is unchristian

I'm not choosing sides, but I will point out that Karl Marx and Vladimer Lenmin would be thrilled to have lived long enough to see this thread. It's exactly what they fought for. Just make Yahweh your king. If enough folks did that, we'd see some real and positive change. But, alas, that...

    Real Christians

I understand what you are saying and there is certainly some truth to it. However, I think Christianity is about what God has done through Jesus Christ. The Bible is about God, not the behavior of people. People are quite helpless without the mercy and grace brought to us by Jesus. Rom 3:10...

Why Does the Savior Need to Be Both God and Man?

An often used argument for saying only God could redeem mankind is that "a mere human" could not do the job. But that argument is disingenuous. The choice is supposedly that either Jesus is God or he is a "mere human." But are there only two options from which to choose? No other options? How...

Speaking in Tongues, why so many false speakers?

The main thing is that you do glorify God by speaking in tongues. The thing about calling it a "gift" is that it is easy to think that only certain Christians have the "gift." But if it is understood that the gift is actually holy spirit, and that all Christians have the gift of holy spirit...

Speaking in Tongues, why so many false speakers?

I think a huge part of misunderstanding tongues is that, right out of the gate, very few call it what the Bible calls it. Most call it a "gift" whereas the Bible calls it a "manifestation." God is perfectly capable of using the word "gift" but he chose to call tongues a "manifestation" instead...

    A God of Hate

Well thought out, but why choose the parts that say God is a God of genocide and disregard the parts that say He is a God of love and mercy? Why not go the other way around and become a Christian? I'm being a bit facetious. The fact is, there is a way to understand the seeming contradiction...

Understanding the The 1000 Year Millennium in Prophecy

That's a good question. But God did say a child would lead animals. That much is clear. So the question is, when and where will (or, as some say, did) that take place?
