    False Prophets

A comment I want to make concerning the Charismatic movement. When I came into the Pentecostal movement in 1966, most of the teaching was Scripture-based. We had a good AOG pastor to did a complete exposition of the book of Galatians. At the same time I encountered the early Charismatics who...

Do you think Confederate statues in public should be removed?

They were brave men who fought for what they believed in. They are a part of history although some would like to erase them from history and rewrite it to make out that these men were evil slave supporters, when in fact all they were, were soldiers loyal to the South and fought for its...

You got the drop on me here. You can answer that one yourself! :-)

It is such a shame that you have taken this so personally and are so angry about it.

While the angel could have given Cornelius the Gospel directly, he did not have the mandate from the Lord to do that. His role was to do what the Lord instructed. The mandate was for the human disciples of Christ to preach the Gospel, and that Peter, being the most available person near to...

What, what, what?? If I had made my comment on the Spiritual gifts forum, you might have a point, and anyway, I wouldn't do that on a protected forum. But this is a general theology forum where each member has their own point of view. I wasn't aware of your experience. If I did, I may not...

In the large scheme of things, it doesn't really matter whether Paul was talking of himself or of someone else he knows of. Just as a matter of interest I wondered why Paul used the word "oika" instead of "ginosko", so I looked it up and discovered that "ginosko" is used when objective...

The problem is that some ultra-spiritual folk have used what Paul said to validate their claims of being caught up to heaven and meeting Jesus. I don't believe any of it, because I think that when people end up in heaven they don't come back.

That is the popular opinion and could be correct. However there is a risk about making assumptions where the Scripture isn't absolutely clear, which in this case it isn't.

The angel told him to send to Joppa and get him.

The Greek word used here is οἶδα, meaning "I know". The word for "relationship" is Σχέση. Therefore if Paul is saying "I know a man" he would, and did, use "oida". If he meant that he had a relationship with the man caught up, he would have used the word "schese" The sentence would be "eko...

He is not necessarily talking about himself. To say he did is to add something to the Scripture.

I agree with you here (see my previous post). 1 Corinthians 13:1 has nothing to do with the gift of tongues. It was all about love. His comment "tongues of men and angels" was about eloquence, not Holy Spirit gifting.

Luke doesn't say that. The description is that Cornelius was a God Fearing proselyte. He was not even baptised with John the Baptizer's baptism. He had never heard the Gospel of Christ, and may not have been aware of the ministry of Jesus at all. The reason why he sent for Peter is that an...

Because we know that the Book of Acts was inspired by the Holy Spirit, not primarily for doctrinal teaching, but to describe how the early church was established and to provide examples of how the Holy Spirit worked with the church and the Apostles. These examples were included by Luke under...

I believe that tongues are a language spoken somewhere in the world. It is just that they are not learned by the speaker but is inspired by the Holy Spirit. I don't believe that they are heavenly languages because why have multiple languages in heaven? It is interesting that before the tower...

I think that Aminius came after Calvin. Someone did some research and showed that Arminius was just a small child when Calvin was alive. But I concur with the rest of your post. After making my rather lengthy reply, I had a few more thoughts about the contentious times that Calvin lived in...

In a strange way, both are true, believe it or not. It just shows that we can't put God in a box with a theology no matter how knowledgeable or capable the theologian. God is sovereign, and there are parts of His Word that are intentionally obscure about things like predestination, election...

I have read through Calvin's commentaries on Romans, John, 1 John, 1 Corinthians, and just about finished Acts part one. To be honest, I find what he says is totally consistent with the verses he quotes. He is very Gospel oriented, and says that unless Christ works with us, we can achieve...

The link is there alright. Notice that Peter says that their hearts were cleansed by faith. It was because they were cleansed by faith that they were able to receive the Holy Spirit, in the same way that when our hearts were cleansed by faith in Christ's finished work on the cross, we were...
