It raises the question, does God only forgive if we forgive? I think God forgives before we even realise or ask for forgiveness; Isn't that good news? I think Jesus meant this by 'he sends his rain and sun on the evil and good alike' He doesn't withdraw kindness because we are not on his side...

and what is more, when we do not forgive others we loose the ability to believe we have been/ are forgiven.
