Did God commend or approve of Rahab’s lie?

And I didn’t say that. I was referring to a scenario involving Jews and Nazi’s and not Rahab. But Rahab’s words can be read in such a way that can be understood as her saying that she did not know where the spies were headed. One translation says: "I don’t know where they were going." (Joshua...

Did God commend or approve of Rahab’s lie?

PLEASE HIGHLIGHT THE WORDS IN THE BIBLE WHERE YOU THINK THE LIE CLEARLY TOOK PLACE. Anyways, Sarai was the sister of Abram. So it was not a lie. I don’t see any difference between what Abram and Sarai did than what Jesus did. Also, I don’t see the word convince in Genesis 12 as you have...

Saying you are without sin verses in 1 John

If what you say is true then we can just rip these verses out of the Bible. Galatians 5:24 “And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.” 1 Peter 4:1-2 “Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind...

Saying you are without sin verses in 1 John

#5. Paul says in Romans 7:14 that he is carnal and is sold under sin; And yet in Romans 8:2, Pauls says he is free from sin. So unless Paul is contradicting himself, he is talking from two different perspectives. #6. In Romans 7:25, Paul asks the question: "O wretched man that I am! who...

Saying you are without sin verses in 1 John

There are 8 reasons in Scripture that show us that Paul is indeed talking as a Pharisee (recounting his past experience) and he is not talking in the present tense as a Christian in Romans 7:14-24. #1. In Romans 7:6, Paul says we should serve in newness of the spirit and not the oldness of the...

Saying you are without sin verses in 1 John

In Defending the true meaning of Romans 7: Peter says this about Paul's writings, "As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their...

Saying you are without sin verses in 1 John

You are misinterpreting 1 John 1:8, my friend. What is helpful in understanding 1 John 1:8 is looking at its immediate context. 1 John 1:10 says if we say we have not sinned. 1 John 1:10 switches gears from 1 John 1:8 in regards to time; John talks about the declaration on committing sin in...

Did God commend or approve of Rahab’s lie?

I am not missing the bigger picture by any means. Although I hold to two different possibilities involving Rahab’s words towards the guards, I agree with the recent apologetic video (I posted) (See: My post #145). The only thing I disagree with them on is their interpretation of 1 John 1:8.

Did God commend or approve of Rahab’s lie?

While I disagree with their interpretation on 1 John 1:8, I think the following video by Apologetics Press is a pretty good explanation involving Rahab.

Did God commend or approve of Rahab’s lie?

You don’t have to lie to save their lives, though. If I was hiding Jews inside a secret chamber in my house, and Nazi’s showed up and asked me if I am hiding any Jews, I would tell them, “Do you see any Jews around here?” “I don’t see any Jews around here.” “Feel free to look around if you...

Did God commend or approve of Rahab’s lie?

Again, not revealing a truth to someone is not a lie. If I don’t tell you how much I make, that is not a lie for me not to tell you. There is no indication in the text that the Pharaoh or the Egyptians asked Abram if he was his wife. Abram’s declaration that Sarai was his sister was true...

Did God commend or approve of Rahab’s lie?

Right, not discounting that. Faith in what though? Hebrews 11:31 KJV “By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.” She is commended for her faith in receiving the spies with peace and not for lying. James 2:25 KJV...

Gotta run to work. Possibly be back later (Lord willing).

Did God commend or approve of Rahab’s lie?

And nothing to show His approval, either. You cannot make an argument on silence. We know taking life in war time is not murder because God actually tells the Israelites to wipe out (take the life of) certain nations. But we do not see anywhere of God telling us to lie in war time. If He...

Did God commend or approve of Rahab’s lie?

I believe in the art of war possibility. But it would not be considered the breaking of the 9th commandment. In either case, the church is not commanded to go to war physically with other nations like God commanded the Israelites. Jesus and His followers taught Non-Violence. So it seems...

Did God commend or approve of Rahab’s lie?

See my post #2. I hold to two possibilities (one of which is Rahab lying, the second she used clever word play like Jesus did at times). Anyways, my issue is folks voting in the poll and saying… “yes” to God commending Rahab for lying. Nothing in the text indicates God’s approval of her lying.

Did God commend or approve of Rahab’s lie?

I am not discounting the possibility that Rahab lied. In my post #2, I made it clear that I believe in three possibilities, and this is one of them. I think folks simply don’t care to investigate this further and they just read the text with a surface reading and that’s it. No need to be a...

Did God commend or approve of Rahab’s lie?

Sorry. No offense, but the catechism has absolutely zero authority here. It’s the Bible that has all true authority because we know it is divine in origin and there are many proofs that back up the Bible and genuine believers have been changed spiritually by the Bible.

Did God commend or approve of Rahab’s lie?

Genesis 11:31 says that Sarai was Abram’s sister (in law). Genesis 11:31 “And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife;” Looking at the text below, we see Abram just tell Sarai that he was his sister (Which is true...

Did God commend or approve of Rahab’s lie?

No. God is good. God is a God of justice and He is fair in what He does. Try reading Luke 12:47-48 to learn about how God is fair in His justice (i.e. a moral standard). God cannot violate the standard of morality He has set for us unless He clearly let us know He has changed it, or unless...
