Newsflash... The entire church is not a bunch of murderous thugs. However if a murderous bunch of thugs breaks into a mans house and threatens his family... I would not blame that householder for protecting that which is his by shooting every one of them.

You are not taking the whole church picture into account. You need to learn to do this as each church age faced its own unique issues. Otherwise you can take one set of church issues from another age and imply the whole church as guilty.
