How the idea of Immortal Soul got into the Church

"Semi-immortal" I'd like to be able to say "Now I've heard everything," but I fear I haven't. Every wind of doctrine is truly blowing. :) Too much Bible People aren't going to like that. :)

I’m being tempted to walk away from Christ

@Misfit This is another little thing you might find encouraging. This guy is actually my pastor now. His father died yesterday. So now I'm praying for you and him. (Not sure why the video isn't displaying properly, but the link works.) https://www.youtube.com/live/_mwNzd-9toA?si=Pm-J6xb7XHFs4eR2

I’m being tempted to walk away from Christ

I haven't been around much lately, but I noticed you posted in another thread today. I would have sent you a private message but that doesn't seem to be an option. Friend, like all the rest of us, what you need is Jesus. See if you can hear His voice blessing you in this audiobook chapter...

How the idea of Immortal Soul got into the Church

Eternal life and immortality are not the same thing. Those who trust in the suffering, death, resurrection, and high-priestly ministry of Christ have eternal life right now. For these, the first death is but an unconscious and inanimate slumber that pauses eternal life. We are seated with Him...

From the pen of Ellen White

What Was Secured by the Death of Christ By Mrs. E. G. White It became Him for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in the redemption of the world to save sinners by the blood of the Lamb. The great sacrifice of the Son of God was neither too great nor too small to accomplish the...

From the pen of Ellen White

The mystery of the cross explains all other mysteries. In the light that streams from Calvary the attributes of God which had filled us with fear and awe appear beautiful and attractive. Mercy, tenderness, and parental love are seen to blend with holiness, justice, and power. While we behold the...

Say more, if you will. I'm not really understanding you here, I don't think. (We are kind of derailing the thread, too.) :)

I just mean the basic idea of esteeming others better than ourselves. :)

Well, you might have a point if Satan were the Sovereign of the universe and made himself a man to suffer and die for the sins of the world. If I didn't know you better, I'd think you were trying to test me as to whether I'd be reduced to a pearl-clutching fit. :P :)

I'm not sure it matters, does it? God says He's coming to destroy those who destroy the earth (Revelation 11:18), so if we aren't destroying it with our waste, we're doing it some other way. Of course, I'm not suggesting we should be irresponsible in our stewardship of the world in any way...

God's law is a transcript of His character—not the other way around. The law is a verbal, human expression of a character far more complex and wonderful than can be fully expressed by humans, which is why He decided to come to Earth as a man and exemplify His character by example. The word...

Funny, I'm struggling to make science fit with the biblical narrative. Not too much, though. Science will come around soon enough. :)

I think it's an inevitable hazard of community discussion, whether virtual or local, that any rules imposed besides the law of Christ are bound to impede Gospel discourse. The Gospel is foolishness to the world, and those who will not be bound by the laws written on the heart by it will always...

You have no proof from scripture that they were wanting to invade Heaven and conquer God. I have you on my ignore list so I may or may not see any reply. :Lockedthread .

He doesn't seem to be showing any signs of slowing down or stopping. And the Bible seems to strongly indicate that he's not coming around to a faith-and-love way of thinking. I honestly never thought I'd find myself in a position to be arguing this point but, personally, I'm nowhere near...

The devil, maybe? He's got an awful lot invested in absolute rebellion. Of course, if one is inclined to see Satan as a mythical creature of allegorical nature, I guess my point is a likely candidate for the moot bin. :)

When Jesus Came out the Grave, he was Born Again.

Many preachers of the Gospel use precisely this illustration. I've taken it a little further, myself: The ant farm becomes a super colony of an asian species which can contain as many as 300 million worker ants—AND THEY TORMENT AND KILL HIM. So your illustration isn't fantastic enough...

I do not relate to Christ as my King

Why do you think it's important to emphasize the kingship of Christ being only for those of the genetic lineage of Jacob? :)

    Should Christians get tattoos?

I know I'm a little late to the party but you don't really seem like you no longer care about other peoples views on the matter. I'm not interested in throwing verses at anyone but I do try to, as the apostle Paul said, hold fast to that which is good. And there are a lot of good...

    Should Christians get tattoos?

Folks who want to behave like the world will indulge any logical fallacy to do so—arguments from apparent silence, loopholes, whatever it takes. Don't mean to be condemnatory; it's just the way things are. We all do it to some degree. :)
