Is the Bible polytheistic? - Are there many gods, or only one?

In a certain sense, yes. In the Psalm being quoted, the "gods" in question are the judges among the people: Psalm 82:1 God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods. 2 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah. 3 Defend the poor...

Are you sending your neighbors to Hell?

That IS a view. Actually, it might be two. People go to hell temporarily to be destroyed permanently = annihilation or People go to hell temporarily to be refined by fire = purgation

Is the Bible polytheistic? - Are there many gods, or only one?

Well... You do not (to the best of my knowledge) sit in the seat of Moses. You are not a duly appointed judge over a tribe of Israel (I think). The Pharisees were.

John 1:1 and Jesus’ Sonship in Adoptionist thought

I should have used more qualifiers. What I meant was that neither @dak nor I have made that claim in this particular topic. I understand him now. I don't share all his nomenclature - I wouldn't use the word "Son" as regards to the pre-existing Word of God. So... I'm not actually an...

The question is wrong. Nobody claimed CHRIST pre-existed. It is that the LOGOS that pre-exists. If you can't put a difference between the two, you're going to have trouble understanding. This topic is about Adoptionist thought. The thinking there is that the man, Jesus, did NOT start out as...

    Christians who hate Israel

Well... Israel is a mixed group. Throughout history, there's been a persistent group of people who call themselves Israel, but aren't really Israelites. Those people have done some pretty awful things. As for Islam... I don't know why anyone would vote for a Muslim in a Christian nation. If...

Making a reference to Job is not the same thing as treating the book as prophecy. The difference is fulfillment. If something has no fulfillment, then it's not being treated as prophecy.

It isn't my intention to empty the spiritual meaning of the passage by insisting on the physical one. However, I'm concerned you might be doing the converse - emptying the literal meaning to uphold the spiritual one. I think we can have both. But yeah... to have a physical child, physical...

Yes, I very much think that Isaiah took the "virgin" to bride and to bed. He seems to have gone to some trouble to put it on record that he had done so: Isaiah 8:2-3 And I took unto me faithful witnesses to record, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah. 3 And I went unto the...

Depends who you ask. The Jews divide their books into Law, Prophets, and Writings. The New Testament writers, being Jewish, reference those categories, although they hold the Psalms to be prophetic, while modern Jews do not.

This took a little reading. I would suggest that Throckmorton's theory on the origination of Matthew is not widely accepted. Scholars mostly don't think that Matthew was based on a 'gospel of the Hebrews,' instead theorizing that it is some combination of material borrowed from Mark (Markan...
